Jay, if that really happened and it ends in Trump’s second term, this is officially the best timeline and the hand of God is surely at work.
This is going to surprise everyone but after a 2.5 hour drive to the nearest facility to get finger printed, the VA needs two numbers from POC before they came do anything. Go to a different building at the request of the finger printing whale and they don’t know either.
My POC is out of town until further notice and no one else is available.
And the VA is literally falling apart. There are giant holes in some of the buildings. Some looked as if they haven’t been touched in 50 years.
It’s all so sad. But they seem to have money to pay an army colonel as a disadvantaged contractor a premium to draw pictures and process maps. Somewhere around 100 an hour to do things that will never matter.

MJ, I’ve gone through the same BS a few times. Getting my badges for the TLA I contract was a mess. Flew to Dulles, metro to DC, then walked 5 blocks, talk to one person. Back on metro, walk 7 blocks. Think it’s the right building. Cross street to actual right building. Guard says it’s the right building but I’m not on the list and my POC inside has not come in because BIPOC with green badge means unfirable. Tell them I came from Detroit and they take pity and find me a backup who’s not senior enough yet to just blow off whole days. Sit through 90 minute indoc then get my picture taken and walk out with badge.
This was my successful run. The first two didn’t go so well.
Also, I’ve become extremely jaded about the “BIPOC with green badge” thing, to the point where I’m aware it’s a bias. Normal green badges are basically dice rolls on whether they GAS at all, seems to largely depend on how many contract dollars they control and their personal level of ambition, but the absenteeism pattern I have seen anecdotally for BIPOC in those positions (and knowing the explicit and implicit hiring policies for a lot of agencies) has resulted in prejudice on my part.

Sweetness varies depending on how it’s made. I’m not really sure the best way to describe it. I was fond of it before I had to give up booze entirely (not that I drank much anyway).

BroTim is correct. Its wine made from honey, rather than grapes. Usually fermented, then conditioned for a LOOOOONG time. My old roommate used to win State Fair for his mead. You can start drinking a lot of it, really smooth, but it’s strong, and will catch up with you very quickly! Honey has a lot more sugar than grapes, so there’s a lot more alcohol produced.
It’s really delicious. I have a spare 5 gallon carboy (big glass jar) sitting here, so I was going to buy a bunch of honey. 5 gallons would be $275 dollars though. not sure I want to do it that badly.

Jay, mead is mostly water, right? I made a carbonated mead from Papazian’s book years ago called ‘Barkshack Gingermead’ and it took forever to age but came out really nice. It was just a few pounds of honey and the other ingredients, added to water in a 5 gal. carboy. I bet you can find the recipe online.
