HHD

Welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day. Found a new source of HHD fodder, but, wow, some of them need a sammich. First, the song, inspired by the courtin’ song last week.

And now for the hunks.

Fake redhead for Carin.

Nice.

Pretty sure it’s the same guy.

You can pose on a ranch like this.

Or like this.

That will do for today. Calgon, take me away.
Thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week, and y’all have a good day.

Loreena McKinnett has 3 sets of repeated letters in her name as well as an excellent voice. I like her stuff but have to be in the mood for it.

Opinions on a Rugar 380 for a running gun. Dogs, etc. Strange people.

  4. Comment by Jimbro on April 7, 2021 7:48 am

Ruger makes quality firearms. I’m more of a 9mm fan but for the purpose of deterrence and leaving any bad dudes with an incriminating hole the .380 is a fine choice.

I’m worried that a 9 mm is too big to run with. But the guy has a point.

  7. Comment by leoncaruthers on April 7, 2021 8:14 am

9mm used to be much easier to find on the shelf. .380 might be now and for the next little while, but I don’t doubt that in the broader “all ammo in existence sense” .380 is far, far sparser on the ground.

Isn’t that Mr Mare’s daily carry?

  12. Comment by Jay in Ames on April 7, 2021 8:50 am

Is there a 22 that’s good enough? Or is that just too small? I know they would be lightweight, but not a lot of power.

Love Ruger. But to be honest there aren’t any well known gun makers that I don’t like.

I think how it feels in your hand, your ability to use it well, and comfort on the body are important.

I chose not to carry because 1) I currently don’t have a permit and 2) the care and responsibility you must take when carrying.

I hope TeeRoy hops on to give advice on the weapon and such.

  18. Comment by Hotspur on April 7, 2021 9:17 am

I hava a Ruger LCP II in .380, and a EC9S in 9mm. I’ve shot the LCP II a lot. It’s dead nuts. It’s my daily carry. The EC9S is a little bigger, but it’s 9mm, so there’s that.

Deaths and hospitalizations are way, way down, so my bet is that someone’s juicing the ‘case’ numbers, likely by not changing the CT on the PCRs administered in the state. They keep doing bookkeeping chicanery to keep deaths up. WNDU* reports the Michigan death numbers with an asterisk because they keep pulling old death reports and claiming “COVID”.

*once associated with Notre Dame, now just a media network with these call letters, fairly balanced, but largely in the typical Branch Covidian style of reporting, so the asterisk on MI numbers is quite the statement

Scroll down to the IN/MI case/death headlines for the contrast. IN and MI aren’t that different in terms of climate and demographics, yet MI has an order of magnitude more cases? Someone’s shoveling horse feathers here, and my bet is the Witches of Lansing.

As a next step, IAVI and Scripps Research are partnering with the biotechnology company Moderna to develop and test an mRNA-based vaccine that harnesses the approach to produce the same beneficial immune cells. Using mRNA technology could significantly accelerate the pace of HIV vaccine development.

This comment is for Oso and Pepe if they show up later.

My younger brother is vp of a wholesale food service distributor that markets and distributes groceries and restaurant supplies from Arizona to Georgia. They work north into Colorado Kansas Missouri Kentucky and Tennessee but all there distribution warehouses are south of there. Their furthest west branch is in Albuquerque and He paid them the first onsite visit that he’s made to any of the branches in 13 months yesterday. Following is bits and parts of what he texted me and our other two siblings last night. I’d be interested in hearing the NM perspective.

His company is headquartered in Fort Worth and he flew to ABQ out of DFW.

On the other side of things, I was a bit shocked when I arrived at the airport and not a single shop or snack bar was open. When I arrived at the hotel I was told face masks are required until I am in my room. The restaurant was about 20% full. I can’t imagine that it felt much different traveling from the free world to behind the iron curtain during the 60s and 70s.

At the office today I found my NM GM working in his office with a mask on. I walked in without one and told him to take that shit off. He stated that the state can shut our doors for two weeks if we are found working without masks. I told him to lick the front door and remove his mask.
It was a bad gut feeling out there with such a liberal crazy bitch governor.
Also…..not much traffic on the highways. Sad and scary.

In Lubbock probably 1 in 5 license plates are nm. Makes me wonder how much commerce from shopping and services has moved and will it move back. Glad I don’t own a business over there.

My note: Lubbock has a population of 300,000 so 1 in 5 cars on the road ain’t chicken feed.

    Younger brother ‘s final text:

NM will be the very last state to open their economy back up because of their extreme liberal Governor. She doesn’t care. She just wants authority and power. The NM Restaurant Association filed suit on her and the state over shutdowns. The NM Supreme Court ruled in her favor. She’s pissed and dishing out retribution to our industry. She also got recreational cannabis legalized for 4/1/22. She claims a $20 million tax benefit.

  62. Comment by Jay in Ames on April 7, 2021 1:05 pm

So, the direct of Mercil was really just more of the Schleiter show we’ve already seen with other state’s witnesses. Kind of checking the boxes, but not even all the boxes needed to support the state’s narrative of guilt—and always by only exposing the jury to half the context, which is a dangerous ploy.

Basing your narrative of guilt on only half the context is a dangerous ploy because we, thank God, enjoy an adversarial legal system, and that means the defense gets to pop right up and expose the jury to the other half of the context, the half consistent with a narrative of innocence—and, in this case, they get to do so with your own witness.

And that’s precisely what happened with Mercil, and in a big, big way.

Sounds like things in the Chauvin trial are not going well for the prosecution, if the defense is using their own witnesses against them. In fact, here’s a note on another:

Even worse, not only did the cross-examination of MacKenzie by the defense also go badly for the prosecution, it went so badly that Nelson informed the court that he intended to re-call MacKenzie as a defense witness when he presented his case in chief.

If that all sounds bad enough for the prosecution, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

It was at this point that Nelson showed Mercil a series of photographs captured from the body worn camera of Officer Lane, and showing Chauvin’s knee on Floyd from the angle down Floyd’s proned body.

Photo 1: Where’s Chauvin’s leg in this image? On Floyd’s neck? Or on his shoulder blades and back. Mercil: Shoulder blades and back.

And in photo 2? Same. Photo 3? Same. Photo 4? Same.

This, of course, fundamentally undercuts the prosecution’s narrative of guilt that it was Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck that killed Floyd.

    Brutal.

George Floyd’s death, like everything the left has done the last 4 years was about trashing Trump. Using the out of control cities to reflect poorly on Trump. T-shirts for Floyd were being worn the next day. Rioters were armed and ready.

Everything we’ve seen has been political theater. Don’t know Chauvin’s involvement but the prosecutor went for second degree manslaughter knowing that it was a stretch. A big stretch. So no matter the outcome justice will not be served for America and certainly not Chauvin. His life is trashed. He was arresting a drugged out loser who became unhinged. Personally, had he billy clubbed him on the head I wouldn’t have cared.

Floyd was a low IQ, drug addict, thieving, thug.

Can’t say anything about Chauvin other than I doubt he was a white supremist. Up until recently he was married to a Hmong woman.

All vaccines have some level of failure, simply because some immune systems will not respond in the way that the majority do, or due to errors during the process. 246 out of 2.4 million is nothing.

  90. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 3:40 pm

2.4 million in Michigan have been vaccinated??

  91. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 3:41 pm

Of course there is failure, especially when it isn’t a vaccine.

  92. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 3:45 pm

I have never heard of herd immunity because of a “vaccine.” I was taught that herd immunity is reached when so many have either died or got it and survived then the population has reached it herd immunity threshold.

Now I hear the head of CDC refer to herd immunity as it’s related to how many are vaccinated.

    Any of you know?

  93. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on April 7, 2021 3:53 pm

Correction, 2.9 million have received at least one dose. 1.8 million have received both.

You said that if it was true that 249 residents got COVID after getting the vaccine, then the vaccine was “garbage”. That makes it a failure rate of about 0.01%. Under that standard, then the polio and smallpox vaccines are both garbage.

  94. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on April 7, 2021 3:55 pm

My whole life. That’s literally the point of vaccination: to train the body’s immune system to respond to the virus in the same way that it does after successfully fighting off an infection. A vaccination is just a controlled infection so that the patient has a high probability of survival.

Our state legislature is recognized as the “dumbest” in the US. Gov Wuhan is the most crooked Governor in NM history. Bill Fatass Richardson was our Governor. She’s worse. Dominion machines came through for D🐀🐀 in November. When I saw the GA woman show how ballots can be changed and used up to 3 times, I realized that our votes have been manipulated for years. We are taking our own pens in May for the special election.

  97. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 5:15 pm

“My whole life” what? How many people would die of COVID, Alex about .01% so death rates getting or not getting the vaccine are the same.

My question was, I had never heard of herd immunity by taking a vaccine? You can establish immunity by being infected. Whole populations can be immune without the “vaccine.”

And if the outcomes of covid were like the possible outcomes of polio, I’d take the vaccine too. Polio has an actual, well tested (I think it was 10 years) vaccine.

These “vaccines” aren’t even FDA approved.

  98. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 5:19 pm

So if the death rate from the “vaccine” is the same as not getting the vaccine, the vaccine is garbage.

CO tourism was running ads in NM asking us not to visit. A few days ago, I asked Dan if he noticed all the Members wearing Sturgis 2020 and Mt Rushmore tees. Dan “I don’t look at people, let alone what they’re wearing”. That is BS. Dan has been caught multiple times checking out butts in shorts and yoga pants. Just last week, there was a 14/15 year old wearing high heeled ankle boots with short shorts and fishnets. Dan missed her, but the cougar in the low cut tank he saw.

  100. Comment by osoloco11 on April 7, 2021 5:26 pm

I think the death rate from the vaccine is .00018. Vaccine death rate spans all age groups. COVID death rate is 80% for obese and the elderly.

  101. Comment by Car in on April 7, 2021 5:33 pm

Vaccine is something like 80% effective I believe? So far my own immune system has been 100%.

  102. Comment by Car in on April 7, 2021 5:35 pm

Also, Lauraw can pipe in here – this “vaccine” isn’t a controlled exposure to the virus.

  103. Comment by leoncaruthers on April 7, 2021 5:37 pm

Pretty sure you meant to say that 80% of the deaths are obese and elderly. Even old fat people have like a 95% survival rate.

  104. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 5:41 pm

Correct, Carin, it’s a mRNA disrupter.

*Or anyone who feels vulnerable. I don’t.

Leon, you are correct. I just can’t believe how many CoWs are getting the gene therapy after having the COVID. I’ve stopped telling people that I’m not getting it. Read an article where HI is working with a University to develop a digital vaccine app. I don’t know what that means, but Dan will get jabbed if he needs it to travel to HI. Told me he’s going without me.

  107. Comment by mare on April 7, 2021 5:57 pm

    It’s higher than 95%.

Some wit said, how will we know if the vaccine works? Will the death rate go from 99.7 to 99.8?

Plus, remember that many, if not a majority, or covid deaths are not from covid but with covid.

Like Rush said, never let a false premise go unchallenged.

Hotspur had to get the vaccine because he’s old and gross.

I got the vaccine because my wife asked me to. That was one reason.

My second reason is that there are still places in the world that I want to visit, and I’ll need to get on a plane to go there.

Whether anyone else gets vaccinated, I couldn’t possibly give fewer fucks.

  114. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on April 7, 2021 6:28 pm

My question was, I had never heard of herd immunity by taking a vaccine? You can establish immunity by being infected. Whole populations can be immune without the “vaccine.”

Vaccines are infections. That’s the point. You trigger the immune system response by a controlled infection rather than an uncontrolled infection that you’d get from the target disease.

It’s analogous to using controlled burns to prevent wildfires.

And vaccines don’t have to be a weakened version of the same virus. Cowpox was used to protect against smallpox, and other vaccines use only surface proteins. The main deal with the COVID vaccines is the way that they modify a third virus to carry specific RNA which, once infecting the patient, creates antibodies that the immune system can attack.

Alex, I’m not trying to be difficult, I completely get your point on what vaccines do, it’s the use of the term “herd immunity” that confuses me.

I’ve ONLY ever heard it used with non vaccinated groups.

A few days ago the head of the CDC made it sound like you achieve herd immunity through vaccination. I guess it can be both, I’d simply never heard (heh) of it being applied to vaccine. In other words, I thought you can achieve herd immunity naturally. A bell curve do to speak.

  120. Comment by Car in on April 7, 2021 6:45 pm

The confusing thing to me is that they are using “herd immunity” in reference ONLY to vaccinated people. Since they’ve decided that those who have had the virus STILL need to be vaccinated, they are not counted.

Until they circle that square, I’m not even considering it. It’s BS.

I’m “meh” about .380. The ammo is expensive and near enough to 9mm ballistically that id just go with 9mm. Im also very “meh” on sub compacts. They are only for very close, and have significant muzzle climb. With that said, I did carry a 380 Sig for certain occasions wearing business formal and was confident it would be effective. Reason I was confident (not bragging) but I hit what I aim at, I practice with focus at least once a month, etc.

Someone mentioned fit, and confidence. I agree, the handgun needs to “feel” right, which normally translates as not too heavy, user can fully encompass the grip, the grip angle fits the user when handgun is extended (shooting position) allowing for a intuitive sight picture and ability to work the action.. Finally the user must be confident in the effectiveness of the caliber and their ability to place shots accurately.

Someone mentioned .22, if I put a .22 rnd into a face, 99.99% of the time the fight is over. And this is the goal in defensive shooting. Not to kill but to stop the attack. If shmucko the bad guy dies as a result, oh well. So, can .22 be effective carry gun? I think it can, but its not optimum.

My advice is forget about brand names. Throw out the low end and high end manufacture, get the largest caliber you can comfortably handle, make sure it feels right in you grip, make sure you can operate the firearm (rack and lock slide, load, unload, break down for cleaning) and once you’ve made your choice, for the love of God, PRACTICE.
Practice like your fucking life (and the lives of your loved ones) are on the line. Because they are, thats what you carry for, to defend yourself or others from serious injury and death. I always ask myself “how much practice is my life worth”?

And once you learn to operate the firearm proficiently you should really study when you can shoot and when not along with the laws regarding self defense for you locale.

Thus endeth my generic spiel on handguns

The G-20 countries, which comprise the globe’s leading economies, have been negotiating over the matter since late 2019. They are using a framework that would not only establish a minimum rate but would also emphasize the locations of businesses’ customers more than where their headquarters are situated.”

    Next story in the newsletter:

New Mexico just made it easier to sue the police.

“The state became the third, after Colorado and Connecticut, to bar the legal defense known as qualified immunity, a rule that for decades has protected officials from the threat of litigation for most law-enforcement actions. The Democratic-led move in New Mexico comes as Congress and dozens of states are considering eliminating or limiting qualified immunity—one of the most contested policing reforms being debated in the U.S. Police unions vehemently oppose such changes, arguing that they would be forced to work under the constant threat of legal action.”

Add that to the list of reasons to give it back to Mexico. I read an earlier story on I think Powerline Blog about the rate of retirements and resignations from the Austin PD. As part of the defunding movement funds for the police academy were affected so the pipeline into the force is being squeezed.

At some point the pendulum is going to make a hard swing back to reality.
