HHD 06-29-22

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day.
First, the song of the day. It’s a repeat but suits me today.

Now for the hunks.
Above the fold.

Redhead for Carin.

Looks pissed.

Nice shoulders, needs to smile.

Possibly a repeat.

Last, but not least.

Thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week. Y’all have a good day. Prayers for those traveling this week.

    G’mornin Romacita.

No sleepy-sleepy for me. Woke up at 4am, started perseverating and tossing with upset thoughts about my work situation, finally got up at 5:30. I’m gonna go finish the garlic harvest and love my life. I have two finished garden beds to clear out and re-plant with second crops.

I have to do some research on floor underlayments. We need to cushion the work area inside of our shop, walking and standing on bare concrete pad is the pits.

We need to put down some kind of cheap smooth floor (linoleum roll remnant from HD, probably) so that a pallet jack loaded with freight can be rolled over it if need be, but it needs some kind of thin cushion underneath it to save our joints.

  3. Comment by lumps on June 29, 2022 6:23 am

Mostly the area gets foot traffic. Scott has only rolled palleted freight in that part of the shop once or twice since renting the place, when the regular freight area got filled up. But it does happen.

Up at 0400 listening to Ollie yakking up bark from the cord wood we had delivered. We’ve got a cord in the garage and the other one is still in the driveway. We usually have them block the garage as an incentive to stack it but this pile is not in the way and human nature has triumphed. When chasing tennis balls Ollie will suddenly drop the ball and veer to a piece of bark. He’s wised up to us taking it from him so he runs away as soon as we reach for it. It’s supposed to rain on Saturday, perhaps we’ll stack it then.

  5. Comment by Jimbro on June 29, 2022 6:43 am

Can you make lanes of high foot traffic/stationary standing areas and leave the majority of it uncovered for rolling loaded pallets and storage? I’m not sure that’s practical, just a suggestion I’m sure you’ve thought of already.

The dumbest thing about the vaxx – is that it is completely nothing but a bullshit hurdle. Ethan got ONE shot, zero boosters. In their world, that basically means he’s unvax’d, right? But since he capitulated and took the one, he’s bowed to the covid emperor.

So losing all these men, when THEY EVEN KNOW IT IS A FUCKING SHAM … I can’t even. It’s embarrassing how blatant they’re being regarding this.

Stall mats were not to be had for a good long while. Rubber shortage plus Kung Flu panic in the supply chain. Haven’t checked inventories since then, hopefully they’ve recovered.

We have some gym flooring in our outer garage that Paula used as a gym early in Covid times. The sections are pretty big, maybe 6 x 8? Anyway, they’ve survived having the wave runner and lawn tractor parked on them over the winters just fine

Right. It’s the tyrannical impulse, the imposition of your will over another you consider your social inferior takes on an importance of its own regardless of the original object.

I saw something at Home depot last week that would work too. The horse stall matts really are the best – would hold up longest. But the other options are lighter, easier to install.

Scott decided on those interlocking rubber mats. If they aren’t smooth enough to vacuum, or roll over easily, or if they’re not tough enough, I can always throw a piece of remnant linoleum on top.

Awesome. Scott was really getting the knee pain from that concrete floor. Shades of working at the big box store all over again. ::SHUDDER::

Ann B had thoughts on the cattle die-off. Not especially sinister, she says:

    https://www.barnhardt.biz/2022/06/17/as-a-cattle-person-i-need-to-weigh-in-on-the-mass-cattle-die-off-video-thats-going-around/

  48. Comment by leoncaruthers on June 29, 2022 10:39 am

It’s telling that Francis didn’t say anything to the Archbishop, just went and ahead and let Pelosi eat her divine judgement.

And yes, this is the sort of thing that causes schism. Francis appears to be pushing very hard to create one, and more and more people are openly questioning whether the ‘resignation’ of B16 was valid, which would make Francis an antipope if so. Mainstream Catholic commentary isn’t touching that with the longest pole you can imagine, but it wouldn’t even be the first time it’s happened, though usually the resolution of it doesn’t come ‘quickly’, at least in relative terms.

Immediate, global communication has made the Vatican a daily sight for millions who — in the past — might know nothing of the pope beyond his name. Whether that accelerates schism or corrects error faster than historical precedent remains to be seen.

  49. Comment by leoncaruthers on June 29, 2022 10:49 am

I’ve seen weber 3 burners on FB marketplace all the time, when people “upgrade” their grill. Weber is the best, and they don’t need to upgrade. You could pick one up cheap and decide if you like it. it will run, and will continue to run for years. Pick up a new one after you decide if you like it.

I got mine for free, go pick it up. Replaced a 4 burner wal mart special that was already rusting out.

With garden garlic you have more than one product. In Spring you can pick the littler green garlics before they make a bulb, like scallions. You also cut off the flower scapes as they grow and eat them too. The finished garlic when it’s fresh and right after it’s dried (so for the first couple months after harvest) is very crisp and juicy and much better to use in raw preparations like salad dressing or crushed and tossed onto cooked veggies, as it is milder with a much less fiery flavor than older garlic.

After it has been in storage for several months it concentrates, gets hot and is just like store bought, pretty much.

Oh God, Steinem. Holy shit. Getting old sucks.

When I get that old I’m never leaving the house. Nobody is allowed to see me. Zoom meetings with the camera pointed down to the floor, where my tits will be, cavorting with the dustbunnies.

Watched a video the other day of a gal describing a multi-year plan to basically make massive profits on elephant garlic. It involved a final harvest of 15k+ plants per annum, though.

  113. Comment by lumps on June 29, 2022 5:37 pm

Not to poop on PollyAnna, but there are some glitches here and there.

First, each garlic bulb will not have 8 cloves. The one she was holding looked like it only had 6 obvious ones at most.

Second, each bulb will have some runty cloves in it that should not be planted. You eat the runts and only save and plant the biggest cloves because runty cloves get you runty bulbs that weren’t worth the ground it took to grow it. Customers aren’t going to be too happy when she sends them “elephant” garlic that is small.

So, she needs to add one more year at least to her plan, and count on eating a lot of garlic that she shouldn’t bother planting.

On the other hand, she didn’t mention (or doesn’t know about) the fact that elephant garlic, being a leek, can and does produce underground corms after flowering. Several per bulb, attached to the rootlets. Each corm will become a full elephant garlic bulb in two years.

The smart thing to do would be to combine these approaches.

Lumps, can Scott eat/smell homegrown garlic?

  115. Comment by leoncaruthers on June 29, 2022 5:40 pm

Yeah, the math alone seems excessively optimistic. OTOH, not a lot of domestic garlic in grocery stores, only ChyNa garlic a lot of the time, so you can actually do well with it at farmer’s markets. Not $100k good in a given year, but good.

I’m craving roasted garlic. For some reason, it doesn’t bother me as much as when Dan eats Shrimp Scampi or other garlic heavy dishes that ooze out of his pores. Sciatica or working on concrete floors has grounded Dan. Too much pain to work. This weekend is mandatory. His shoes are only 3 months old.
