Denali excursions remain popular.

I had the great fortune to attend an ROTC camp in Alaska. I read about somewhere, this was pre-internet times. My cadre had never heard of it and I was the first cadet from our place to go ever in all the years of the program. Anyway, one weekend between blocks we took a trip to Denali for a white water rafting trip. I have a snapshot of me wearing the rain pants and jacket the tour company provided. It was so foggy that the visibility was maybe a quarter mile.
Guide: “Look! There’s Denali!”
Cadets: “All I see is fog”
Guide: “Well, it’s there!”
We rode in military buses for countless hours on dirt roads and the prior service guys smuggled bottles of Jack Daniels and cases of beer on them. Unfortunately the drivers weren’t stopping for pee breaks given the distance we had to travel. There was a lot of peeing out windows, in soda bottles and even in the cardboard beer box with the expected waterproof failure. Good times!
Cool story Jimbro. For some reason my brain associates Denali with desert, not sure what that connection misfire is about.
I was sorry to read about your forced leave of absence, it makes me sad and angry to think about this happening to good people all over the country for no good reason.
Thanks Pups. There’s a little more to the story as you can imagine but it is definitely Covid-related.
I’m regrouping now and will mostly focus on getting the Mrs through her shoulder surgery which is next week. I figure she’ll need a personal attendant for a week or two at the most but she’ll be asking for a replacement after a few days with the goober that’s signed up for the job now.
The most frustrating thing about all of this is that when you tell someone that masks don’t work and that healthy people are being maimed by this vaccine, they smile. They look so smug about the fact that I am crazy. So fucking condescending. It’s like a sheep rolling their eyes at you about how dangerous wolves are. “Oh, pleeeease…”
Because CNN/facebook/fauci told them what is right and what is wrong, and if what I said were true, wouldn’t it be on the news? They can’t just get on the air and *lie*, right?
I just don’t talk to anybody anymore. It’s pointless. Don’t talk to the robots.
The same generals throwing Biden under the bus after obeying a lawful but shitty order spent 4 years undermining Trump and paying weak lip service to his. They a cheap men, unworthy of the uniform.
Well, since that’s not an issue for me… I do eat it on toast- slathered on with a big hug of toms and maybe some onions. But I also like dipping veggies in it a LOT.
Tried to talk with one of the college pizza emps about the vax. They had opined that natural immunity fails, but the vax is the answer. I told them they had it wrong, and I had every virus in history in my research. The subject was one of the employees having Covid, again. I said that the first instance, or this one, could be a false positive, because the sensitivity of the testing was dialed in so high as to produce them. A stadium full of people 2 weekends in a row (68k each, both sellouts, and crowded parking lots) and no outbreak?
I’m still just a crazy winger. College students are hopeless.
My BiL had a diagnosed case, likely gave to sister and niece, but they were in the pre-vax days. I’m sure my sister went and got the fake vaccine afterward, she’s in HR.
I don’t regret getting the vax for myself, much, but I’m not getting a booster. And roamy’s link shows why. Might as well get it over with. Hope my fat ass doesn’t suffer too much, but my ass is not as fat as it used to be.
Jay, get some NAC while you still can, or glutathione if you can’t. Quercetin too. Possum brought home sniffles twice already from school and I’ve been taking NAC and Q daily and have managed to just have a runny nose for a few hours. Last time she was bringing crud home from school I was sick basically for 2 months straight.

Here’s gov’t competency for you – yesterday I had my required physical exam for work (in order to keep my job a little longer). Doc asked any changes in my health since the last time, which was Jan. 2020. I said hysterectomy (and knee trouble). She asked if it was total or partial, I said partial. She scribbled some notes on my chart. Not two minutes later, she asked what was the date of my last period.
Surprisingly, I got no shaming or lecture on getting vaxed. I was ready for an argument and didn’t get one.
on my list for the next pharmacy run. Vit D too. Sun getting lower in the sky.
I’m sure that my walks outside during noon hour are partially responsible for my lack of lung crud for the last year. Usually I get a bout or two every season, but not this one.
Celery will work for baba ganoush, sure. Cucumber slices would probably taste better with it.
I’m going to go buck wild this week with falafel and pita bread and whatnot and then clamp down on my carby behavior starting this weekend.
Probably.
pita bread is really easy, especially with a pizza stone. pop it on there and instant puff up. Works great in a pizza oven at 550 too! no time at all, and super easy to make.

Work twerp says if you have a religious objection to the clot shot, then there’s “a large number” of treatments for other ailments that you should deny yourself. I know there was an attempt at an Alzheimer’s treatment that used fetal cells, I don’t know of any others.
Toasted pita bread – YUM!!!!

Given your proximity to a large Arab population I hope you can get the good freshly baked stuff. Growing up in MA we could get fresh pita bread downtown in a few stores. Up here it’s all the mass produced mega-bakery stuff and I don’t even bother.
I’d love to say my sister continued the tradition of making the Lebanese food that my mom made us over the years but she’s more of an “order it to go from the restaurant” kind of girl. Her go to place in MA is called Biblio’s and even they get their pita bread from Montreal. That was pre-Covid. I wonder if they can still get it?
How does the work twerp imagine that he is the judge of what you accept and what you object to on religious grounds?

It’s a good question. The answer, unfortunately is that the left wants to punish and hurt people who don’t agree with them.
I only have two dogs, but I’m going to look at a female great pyrenees. Was bred and lost a TON of weight. Owner doesn’t want her because she “jumps” on her kids – 3 kids under 5. Typical story.
I have a sourdough pita recipe that I have used in the past to decent effect. But I couldn’t get it really fluffy and soft like some people can. Maybe I need a yeast recipe instead. I should try it with pizza dough and see what happens.
I keep seeing this in Iowa. Every other place I see (viewing conservative sites) says the opposite, that vaccinated are more hospitalized. Who is lying?
Could be true, what’s the overall rate in IA? Majority of Israel’s cases are “breakthrough” now, as I understand it.
There’s also the possibility that people who’ve been jabbed are reluctant to go to the hospital with similar symptoms to those who haven’t, simply because they assume it’s some other, less dangerous disease.
one commenter: I work in an ICU and have seen zero cases of patients being hospitalized for reactions to the vaccine. But ok. Go off.
She is going to school for a masters (no specification) at a school in Minneapolis. Is that standard practice for students to work the ICU? granted its a graduate program. The school does have a nursing program.
Reluctant is the wrong word, unlikely is better. And as I’ve heard it, hospitals in a lot of states automatically admit people who test positive, even if it’s just to send them home an hour later, because the cash incentives are still there.

Maybe I ought to trade right now.” I mean, I couldn’t get a coke at the Walmart gas station the other day cause they ran out of styrofoam cups. Th world’s largest retailer can’t get ahold of styrofoam fucking cups.
I have been stocking up on food PG freezer and staples, Brisket, round, chuck and lots of pork. As well as Rotell ( I go through that like cray cray) My tires are only a year old, I tossed my snow tires for all seasons when I moved from Colorado to Florida.

Good idea on the tires. We had repairs done on the house where the siding was pulling away, making sure the roof and gutters are in good shape. I’ve been pulling together things to repair. I already had a sewing kit, added in an awl, paracord, two-part epoxy, superglue, duct tape, putty, Teflon tape, and shoelaces. A tire plug kit is not a bad idea.

I’m going to try making falafel from scratch at some point this week. The Trader Joe’s instant mix is pretty good but I think I can do better.
I like the looks of this recipe: https://www.themediterraneandish.com/how-to-make-falafel/
The first link on Pixy’s post this morning is very interesting. Mostly stuff we already know, but quantified.

Having an incentive to be deadheading (empty) containers back to China is something I hadn’t thought about. That’s insane.
So anytime a military officer disagrees with a lawful order, he should resign in protest?
I’d expect more of a fight. kinda like the resistance to trump wanting out of Syria. and i know lots of military folks that agree with that.
This one made me snort: “Housing and income policy may have to normalize before labor supplies do.”

The same generals throwing Biden under the bus after obeying a lawful but shitty order spent 4 years undermining Trump and paying weak lip service to his. They a cheap men, unworthy of the uniform.

Thanks, Carin. I know your shop AND your household have a solid, permanent place for a psych nurse.

Well, the prime – need years were a few years back, but we can still put you to work.
They are actual commies and they know Biden is not really the boss.
All the goods going one way and all the money going the other way seems like a possible contributor to the container imbalance.
But no mean tweets!
I lost a few pounds (nerves) after quitting my jerb but now I have gained a few pounds (beer and good cooking).
halp i getn fat
Military folks who criticized Trump were heralded as martyrs. I don’t remember a single one facing punishment.
Baba ganoush is incredible. Low carb and tastes just like a really good hummus. I made way too much though, guess I should freeze it.
Then there’s this – to demonstrate how ROTTEN and misguided the military leadership is: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/11/trump-generals/601348/
Pumpkin is pretty easy on the carbs if you don’t add sugar to it.
The PJW video on the pope could have been straight from Church Militant, but they are really hesitant to criticize the (nominal) pope so directly.
I don’t know what too much baba ganoush means? I make a big bowl and it’s just gone.
What do you eat it with? The chips are the killer calorie problem for me.
Well, since that’s not an issue for me… I do eat it on toast- slathered on with a big hug of toms and maybe some onions. But I also like dipping veggies in it a LOT.
Toasted pita bread – YUM!!!!
Would it work on celery? I never eat it and have no sense of whether that’s workable.
I love it on cauliflower.
And i mean, I eat carbs, not that I don’t have to watch my calories.
Tool ticket presale starts at 10 eastern. There are a handful of venues that require a vaccination – but NOT MINE!! Yea.
https://market-ticker.org/post=243729
tl,dr: CDC’s own data shows the vax ineffective after 4 months.
But my natural immunity is GOING STRONG!!!
wow, every one of those generals is mad about Trump talk of revoking Brennan’s security. Lots mad about Syria. Rotten indeed.
True statement: of the people I know who contracted covid, 100% were vaccinated.
Tried to talk with one of the college pizza emps about the vax. They had opined that natural immunity fails, but the vax is the answer. antioxidant, used for lung issues. I’m assuming that’s it

I’m sure that my walks outside during noon hour are partially responsible for my lack of lung crud for the last year. Usually I get a bout or two every season, but not this one.
Vitamins, people. Take your vitamins.
That’s the one. It’ll say “NAC” on the jar. D3 in capsules is good, too, but that’s a general recommendation.
Glutathione is a backup if you can’t get NAC.
there is a NAC plus quercetin supplement, go with that? Gonna have to order it, not in stock, any of it. Go figure
are quercetin and CoQ10 the same thing?

really good with gyro and tzatiki, just sayin
time for endless meetings, toodles!
CoQ10 is an enzyme, quercetin is bio-available zinc.

None of the rest of those treatments was an early echo of the Mark of the Beast, work twerp, that’s why this a religious objection.
Don’t base it on reason, nothing else in this mess is.

Climate change status: SOLVED!
No, Jay. It’s all theater. All “politics” is just form of showbiz. Unfortunately it doesn’t go away when you turn the TV off.

We are still really, really short at work. We’re short 4 servers on Saturday, and several other days are bad too. That’s a third of the floor staff.
BAD. so, full restaurant, 30% reduction in staff.
I’m working at pizza place on fridays again, he can’t get anyone hired.
AARRGGHH. Infection back. $50 out the window plus whatever the meds will cost me.
Nevermind therapy, now I gotta figure out where food and fuel come from until mid-October. FML.
Why would I do that to your life when your mom is available?
Wife just went to Wendy’s with Possum. Line didn’t move for 10 solid minutes. They start at $15 an hour and can’t find staff at all.

What’s the actual ratio? 51% is a majority.
Alternatively, there’s no money at all in claiming they don’t work. Much the contrary given the de-platforming. Money talks.
Unvaccinated Iowans account for 81.2% of those in the hospital.
Could be true, what’s the overall rate in IA? Majority of Israel’s cases are “breakthrough” now, as I understand it.

There are no negative reactions, science denier. Also no such thing as natural immunity. And there are no treatments. Only the mRNA.
Jay, I could easily see a nursing grad student working in an ICU, that part of her story doesn’t set off any alarms for me.
