I recently watched “The Thin Red Line” again (1998 version). I’ve seen it before and it’s notable for a lot of big name actors in it. Standard WW2 flick about taking Guadalcanal from the Japanese but the movie is mainly about the metaphysical aspects of conflict and life and shit. The guy who I thought was doing the narration on all that stuff was killed near the end of the movie but the narration continued so I feel like maybe I missed something. Douchebag Sean Penn was in it unfortunately and for some reason he was the only guy with long hair in the entire cast.
Now that I think of it, Roamy could easily populate a month or more worth of HHD’s with the cast of Thin Red Line.

My MIL’s last afib episode was in reaction to a nickel allergy. She knew she had the nickel allergy and was eating properly and had long discarded all her stainless steel cookware. But that particular week she was going hog wild on a bag of avocadoes, not knowing those are high in nickel. Took a few days for it to catch up with her but then boom, and we took her to the ED.

My 16 y.o. grandson who has been giving his mother and granny heartburn because he wants to be trans, has recently expressed an interest in my historical figure painting hobby, except he’s more interested in this Warhammer 40K thing. He’s been doing some gaming with his buddies and would like me to teach him how to paint the figures.
I’m more than happy to do this but I don’t know anything about Warhammer 40k, so not sure it would be a wholesome subject and not open some other fucking can of worms.
HotBride thinks it would be good for him to experience male bonding which he’s never had with his toolbox of a dad, and I sort of agree. Plus hanging out with guy buddies gaming should be good and normal for a teenage boy.

Jimbro, the idea is to paint the figures yourself, not buy them that way. Well painted figures sell in the $500 and up realm, so unless you’re rich and have no talent, you have to paint them yourself.
I paint mostly Napoleonics in 54mm scale, and I’ve won numerous awards, and that’s what my grandson wants me to teach him except he’s not really interested in the Napoleonic era.

That’s what I figured. I didn’t look too close at the items they had but I was hoping they’d have some 40k figures in the raw, so to speak, for you guys to paint.

As of 1:45 pm CST, Rebecca is out of surgery, the doctor came and talked with us and he is quite pleased with how the surgery went. She will be in recovery for about another hour, then we should be able to go back and see her.

Whoo boy…..well, that was fun (not)!
Apparently there is a phase in post-anesthesia recovery called “Excitation”, and most of the time the family doesn’t see it. And that is a very good thing!
We got back to the recovery area to find Rebecca squirming out of the device they had attached her to to keep her legs the correct distance apart and she was in pain and confused and had the strength of 10 Grinches plus 2.
She was sitting upright in the bed, she had her feet drawn up into herself, she had pulled off her covers and her gown and the Foley catheter and the pulse ox lead and all of the leads on her body and the dressing over her surgical scar and was trying to pull out her IVs, screaming at the top of her lungs and acting like a mad woman.
Took 5 nurses plus Paul and me to calm her down enough to get enough serious pain meds and relaxants into her system so that she didn’t hurt herself.
We are exhausted!
My ex went through a mild version of that while coming down from dental sedation for wisdom teeth. Weird and scary to be there for it.
I know no one cares, but the people who own D&D just nuked themselves into – hopefully – a permanent death spiral, at least with tabletop gaming. Tried to change the “open game license” a prior leadership team had established to try and help get a lot of community buy-in and make it into essentially a “you pay us or we sue you” virus. The Nerds, God bless them, appear to have said “fuck you and fuck your bugbear” en masse.

We had big wheel races as teenagers in Tx. Without too much detail, cops would break up our races. They hated Christmas in July.
Our new son-in-law is a Dungeon Master. Apparently there are people out there with more money than we will ever see in our lifetime who are willing to pay someone to run a weekly game for them and their friends. Son-in-law gets a salary, paid vacation, medical and dental insurance, and a couple of Vegas trips each year.
Of course, Paul and I are worried that this isn’t going to last, but there are actually people chomping at the bit for Daniel to come work for them, if he ever decides to leave his current guy (who also pays for “friends” to play with him every week – and lose).
