HHD 02-23-22

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day.

Mini-me has taken up swing dancing.

Now for the hunks.
I want to back the blue, not sure I can after what the Ottawa police and RCMP did. So I’ll stick to firemen.
Taylor Kinney from Chicago Fire

And below the fold, shirtless.

Scowly.

Tats.

Elsewhere in the HHD fodder folder.

Last, but not least, Paul Rudd.

Thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week, prayers for TiFW, TeeRoy, Mrs. Jay, and those fighting the coof, and y’all have a good day.

Heh, heh, looks like Anitfa fucked around with the Gypsy Joker biker gang in Portland and found out. Having first hand knowledge of how these biker gangs operate, I’d say Antifa has a BIG problem. Police have rules. Biker Gangs not so much, and this ain’t even close to over.

    Sat Cong.

I read an article about that TeeRoy in which the author said growing up near their territory people learned early on not to mess with the Gypsy Joker Gang. Prior to that incident I had never heard of them. Hopefully the miscreants compromising just the idea of Antifa gets to meet them up close and personal for the rest of this election year (and beyond if it’s not too much trouble Mr. Joker)

I skimmed a long article in the Atlantic yesterday that tried to describe the treatment of Covid in terms of prevention of tobacco related disease and death. I didn’t read it too closely but the idea was since we’ve known cigarettes are bad for you, people who smoke are deliberately choosing disease. The analogy for Covid was that since we know the vaccines are so effective, choosing not to take them elevates your risk of disease and death. So people who don’t get the jab, in his estimation, are like the rubes who continue to smoke cigarettes “despite everyone knowing how bad it is for you.”

    This quote made me cringe:

“The COVID vaccines are, without exaggeration, among the safest and most effective therapies in all of modern medicine. An unvaccinated adult is an astonishing 68 times more likely to die from COVID than a boosted one. Yet widespread vaccine hesitancy in the United States has caused more than 163,000 preventable deaths and counting. Because too few people are vaccinated, COVID surges still overwhelm hospitals—interfering with routine medical services and leading to thousands of lives lost from other conditions. If everyone who is eligible were triply vaccinated, our health-care system would be functioning normally again.”

Read it for yourself and see if you agree or disagree with his premise

  8. Comment by mare on February 23, 2022 7:53 am

Do I agree with his premise?

    It’s bullshit.

I’m sick of proving the obvious. I’ve used stats. I’ve used what data they allow to be seen. You’re messing with a healthy immune system (if in fact you have one and healthy people do).

  9. Comment by mare on February 23, 2022 7:57 am

Candace Owens is pregnant again. She’s bothered to go back and look at the data related to adding a vaccine to the childhood list of vaccines. If you want to be sick to your stomach go back and look at her Instagram OR watch her new mini expose’ Shot In The Dark.

It has been bullshit from day one. Pharmaceutical companies are the fricken devil with their minions in congress.

I’m encouraging my kids not to get ANY vaccines for their children.

Yes, I’m an anti vaxxer. 100%

  10. Comment by Jay in Ames on February 23, 2022 8:38 am

    Because of course they did.

As Portland Police Public Information Officer Lt. Nathan Sheppard attempted to update the media on the shooting melee in Northeast Portland, two known Antifa militants took over the news conference, commandeered the microphones, and began blaming the police for failing to do their jobs to protect them.

Police should have put them in Chaz.

Here’s a little ditty that came across my desk this morning from a reliable source:

    Fed Forecasting

Dating back to 2012, the Fed has correctly predicted the fed funds rate, a rate they literally control, 37% of the time, core inflation 29% of the time, unemployment 24%, and Real GDP growth 17%. Moreover, the Fed is consistently biased towards faster growth and higher rates than what comes to pass. Only 7% of the time was the Fed dovish. Thus, treat Fed inflation/growth/rate forecasts with appropriate skepticism.

I’ve been thinking the same thing since they evicted them off the bridge. When I heard Brandon put the barriers up in DC I sort of knew where this was going. It’s too late to stop it but I really wish they had some creative thinkers in the group who can figure out a protest that thwarts the inevitable crackdown.

A memorable show was the one when Archie and Meathead got locked in the basement and Edith and her cumguzzling daughter weren’t home.

Archie relates the story of when he was a little boy and lost one of his galoshes and had to go to school with one shoe and one boot and all the kids from then on called him ShoeBootie, and he hated it.

It was a very touching scene – for about two minutes.

I heard somewhere on the radio yesterday, maybe Howie Carr Show, where some guy got as lower insurance rate by claiming he was a female and another instance of a guy retiring a year early with increased benefits by claiming to be a woman, Both examples happened in other countries but, much like emergency dictatorship rules, it’s only a matter of time before it’s here.

The best method for the trucker protest to make their point imo, is for them to continue to move – circle the beltway a few times and maybe do a circuit of the mall.
Then continue on to the next city.
Any truck convoy will naturally clog up traffic (queue theory and all) but it won’t become so obnoxious as to piss off us working peeps.
It will definitely fuck with the supply chain.
After they burn whatever fuel they feel like burning they should all take a two week vacation.
Bare shelves and empty roads are just as effective as clogged roads and flaring tempers.

I think you’re right Jam. A rolling blockade of trucks going the exact speed limit for most of a day will eff up traffic and make their point as well as an occupation with less collateral risk. Do this at a few key locations in different cities on the same day and then, as you say, take a powder for a good week or two. Then Brandon won’t know whether to blame Putin/Ukraine, Trump’s hotel room or those scoundrels the truckers for inflation and shortages.

I’ve been watching 1883 which is the story of how the Dutton family got to Yellowstone Ranch.

The first few episodes were great, but later episodes have turned it into sort of a woke jizzfest.

But last night the really WOKE Dutton daughter asserted the following:

“To import the traditions of a place you fled, the place that failed you, is to condemn the place you seek with the same failures.”

I wondered, how in the hell did they let that slip through? She was basically saying it to demonize white settlers bringing their culture to the Plains, but doesn’t it illustrate why immigrants need to assimilate to our culture? And doesn’t it illustrate why liberals who flee NYC and LA, etc., shouldn’t bring their politics to red states?

    Just spitballing’.

We ate at a restaurant on Route 66 this AM on our way to the zoo. Great service, but ok food. Which is almost unheard of in NM. The great service part. Staff is still masked. First time we tried this restaurant, they were raided by ICE and the entire kitchen staff was frogmarched out. We were allowed to finish our meal before the restaurant was padlocked. It looks like family is staffing and running the restaurant. Bus boy to Host. Host made a joke about kitchen staff getting the day off and making Abuela make tortillas. $20

Putin is heartless former KGB who kills anybody who tells the truth and has allowed his country to be run by thieving oligarchs. Anything you have, anything you build, anything you invent, is stolen from you and used to enrich their bloated evil selves. And you need to shut up about it if you know what’s good for you and your family. The state is good with that. The state sponsors it. When he annexed the Crimea, he degraded the standard of living for everyone because they have to pull harder just to feed the top parasite class. As well as living in a general apparatus of oppression.

Work’s been stacking up, people are panicking, worrying that launch schedule is going to be impacted. It took a personal appeal from the new branch chief to make me give in on testing. Test is once per week, not every day, just did one from home that is proctored online and doesn’t involve brain swabbing, nor does FDA get my sample to monkey with, I get reimbursed for the test cost.

The rule almost seems to be the more expensive the meal, the worse the food. That was certainly the case in England, in Las Vegas, and in Madison, Wisconsin. The $10 meal was yummy and filling, the $60 meal was meh. Mr. RFH and I took a cooking class where we spent a stupid amount of money each, got one chicken tender, one mushroom cap, and a spoonful of rice. We hit Chick-fil-a on the way home.

At least no foams were involved. Back when I watched Top Chef (before it became all ghey all the time), there was one chef that kept making foams, even after one of the judges called him on it, saying it looked like cat sick on the plate.

The restaurant thing reminds me of a conversation I had with my son. I was telling him about capitalism, and how it’s not really an economic system, but a psychological analysis. People naturally want to trade things for things of greater value, and that’s true no matter which country you’re in.

So if a girl makes a million dollars selling jars of honey, because she promises to donate part of the profits to restoring bee hives, and she’s charging more than the regular jar of honey, you can understand that the thing of value is honey + sense of well being for supporting a good cause. That’s why it’s so hard to quantify value, because people can and do value things differently. When you recognize that, and you understand you can make your product worth more by associating it in the buyer’s mind with some unspoken value, you can sell your product better than the competitor can.

If I want to eat food, I can spend a little bit of money and get something that will satisfy my hunger. If my value is somewhere else – satisfy hunger + feel reasonably healthy afterwards, that will affect my purchase and probably cost more. If my value is satisfy hunger + have a unique experience, or satisfy my hunger + feel more sophisticated than the plebes, all that will affect the price I’m willing to pay. And all that happens without any government intervention, without any economic theory, without much in the way of conscious thought at all. It’s psychology, not economics.

I hate to be seen as an isolationist, but we really fucked up by trying to expand NATO.

NATO served it’s purpose. Once the USSR fell, we should have invited the former Warsaw Pact into some sort of ‘peace partner’ economic alliance and maybe some mil-mil exchanges, nothing more.

Trump did a good job by questioning NATO’s usefulness in today’s age and holding members to account. That (and energy independence +blocking NordStream) kept Putin quiet.

Now Biden has unraveled all of that and is stunned at the reaction his own actions have brought.
