Welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day. Promise you won’t point and laugh?
My mood has seesawed between (nsfw) this and this:
Now for the hunks.
Today’s theme is kilts, since I found four new pics. You get to guess who the re-run is.
Fake redhead for Carin.
Needs to smile.
Bodice-ripper book cover.
Last, but not least.
Thank you for your attention, thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week, and y’all have a good day.

Hope you get your AC situation straightened out Tif. I managed a good night’s sleep with our AC set on the right setting. Weatherman said the humidity was lifting and from what I can feel blowing through the windows he was right.

I think one of the biggest contributors to all the insanity is a lack of religion on the part of the Lefties.
———-
Both of these have contributed greatly.
PJM, for most people, there is a void that needs to be filled. Traditionally it has been filled with Judeo-Christian values. That’s what the founders counted on. Now it’s filled with garbage like the global warming religion (leftism), or the social justice religion (leftism).
You don’t normally see traditionallly religious people rioting or part of Antifa.
But I do believe this country is sick in the head…at least a good portion of it.
I missed the majority of the Barr Interrogation yesterday and from what I’m hearing here and elsewhere I didn’t miss much. At some point I’ll read a few summaries and move on with life.
Saw my first “Lincoln Project” sponsored attack ad on Susan Collins this morning. Those mean girls are really bringing out the big guns (big money really) to try and get her seat and flip the Senate. Collins is a squish but she votes with the right side most of the time.

This morning I was thinking how the right could flip the script on highway/traffic shut downs. Tractors driving 5 mph is always a great way to ruin a commute. Same with 18 wheelers. Time to shut down about 10 blue cities on the same day and hear the media protest how lives were lost because EMS couldn’t get through.
We joke about walling in the cities, but just cutting off food and amazon deliveries for a few days would not be hard.
wakey wakey
Carin, do you know yet what happened to your sister?
8/10 would smash with a rock while they were sleeping so I wouldn’t be killed.
I was thinking about the Barr thing yesterday. It was a bit surreal, but I didn’t watch much.
They should never call him to testify. It’s silly and they’re just making speeches for campaign ads, looking for a slip up, etc.
They also were very effective though. Not letting him speak was a good idea.
No, we don’t . They sent tissue, etc, out for testing and they said it could take more than 8 weeks.
Best guess for VP?
Can’t imagine Harris. She’s unlikable, looks weird, sucks too much caulk and CA is already in the bag.
First
It’s going to be just like Obama-Biden but with Biden in charge and no Obama!
I think it’ll be someone we haven’t heard of.
Everyone thinks this election is 1968. It’s actually 2012. Uninspiring opposition that should and could win the election but won’t.
Ralph Northam for veep.
John Lewis.
Can we please bury John Lewis already?
They have to keep parading that vile corpse around to keep the narrative at eleventy.
Biden obviously needs a running mate who doubles as a clumsy side-kick. The campaign will gradually shed the other characters’ storylines to focus on the two of them and their wacky adventures traveling around the county. Like the episode where the VP candidate accidentally books a campaign stop at a white supremacist biker bar, and Biden gropes the gang-leader’s old lady while the VP clumsily knocks over a whole row of motorcycles and they have to flee in the campaign bus from the pursuing gang members, finally jumping it over a half-finished bridge.
The best part is that Biden is a walking “Very Special Episode…”
If he picks Harris someone needs to run with the title, “The Old Man and the C”
Can we all reclaim our time after Biden tries to speak?
Hunter Biden will appear in many episodes to give Biden and Side-kick their campaign mission, but he’ll always be wearing some outlandish disguise in order to avoid being served with another paternity suit (German mountain-climber, disco-skater, flamenco dancer, trashcan) but after he gives them their mission he’ll always get a tap on the shoulder and some process server will give him the papers.
I’ve no doubt walking away from Christ is at the heart of today’s chaos. It’s certainly at the core of my own problems. It’s nothing short of a miracle I’m not on the other side today.

Pee Wee?
Stop making the bald man cry in public.
Serial question – how does a vile person like Nadler win elections? He’s obese, short, obese, short, ugly, short, obese, short, and has that despicable NY accent. Did I mention that he’s obese and short? Oh, and he’s ugly.
Who votes for that?
They have to keep parading that vile corpse around to keep the narrative at eleventy.
“Sean Spicier” (parody account) cracked me up when he said he’d miss the funeral in DC but would catch it in Austin or San Francisco.
Hang in there, BroTim.

Also cemeteries.

how does a vile person like Nadler win elections?
See also, Pelosi, Swalwell, Ocasio Cortez, DeLauro in CT, Murphy in CT.
Oh, I’m feeling fine. It’s the 330 million other jackholes in this country I’m worried about.
Also, Nadler probably delivers for his district. And his district probably approves of his fuckery.
Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Hank Johnson
John Lewis
But we all know why these people were elected.
See also, Pelosi, Swalwell, Ocasio Cortez, DeLauro in CT, Murphy in CT.
Kinda misses my point. At one time Pelosi was attractive. Cortez is easy on the eyes and has a nice rack. Swallwell is okay looking and he isn’t short. DeLauro and Murphy I don’t know about. But Nadler is the fucking evil second cousin of the Seven Dwarfs.
Seems like you couldn’t even put his photo in a campaign ad or poster.
And he wears his pants up around his fucking armpits. It’s like, “Hey, I know I’m a total toolbox so I might as well dress like one.”

Yes, a lot people have a void that needs to be filled. You’d be surprised at how many (mostly non-commenters now, some still lurk) hostages, are atheist, agnostic (myself), and even…pagan…..some are gay, and some are even polyamorous..but still conservative, just not religious conservative. You’d also be surprised out how many of the above people don’t give a flip about whether there is “In God We Trust” on the coins or if there’s a federal cross war memorial that’s being paid for by government money. We have “art” (always debatable description in my opinion) sculptures being paid for by tax dollars, we can have crosses…especially war memorial ones. They say “God bless you” when someone sneezes and don’t care if someone says it back. They don’t bring it up at the hostages because it’s not like being a vegan, they don’t need to announce it to the world. They just scroll on by when others start talking about religion, because it’s ok. It’s not an affront to them. They don’t steal or murder and were never raised in religious homes. Most fill that void with gardening or hanging with friends or cooking good food and raising good children. Some, not all…I’ve seen some serious asshole kids, but that’s everywhere, religion or not.
I can’t tell you how many of the most anti-religious extremist people I’ve met (and believe me, I meet everyone and talk to everyone and want to hear their story because I’m an extrovert, I can’t help myself) were formally religious. And had something happen to them, abusive parents? Priests? Those who were not following Judeo-Christian values ruined it for them. Or they wanted to live their own lives and didn’t want to feel guilty for dancing or drinking alcohol. Remember, there’s Christian religions that ban that. Or you’ll get ex-communicated from the family if you don’t marry someone of the same religion. All of that kind of stuff pushes people out of Judeo-Christian religions.
We have always had kooky people, always. Religion or no religion. I mean, we’re finding out that covid doctor (I finally found her website btw and hooooooly crap) is beyond a fire and brimstone preacher. Which is a shame that she was put forth as a prominent proponent of HCL because now no one is going to listen because she’s way too extreme for most people’s tastes.
Anyhoo, we have always had kooky people before Judeo-Christian values and we will always have them.
What do I blame?
Honestly, I think the Internet has been a big factor in all this. Back in the day, if you liked to diddle little kids, you kept that shit quiet. The town would shame you and you had to go live on the outskirts of that town and not talk to anyone. Now? Now you can find someone just like you who feels the same way, and you get validated in your feelings. It gets normalized. Then you get validated, so you get on Twitter and protest if it’s not on TV and in movies, so it gets in movies because those Hollywood producers themselves are also diddling little kids, can’t see that their behavior is wrong because that’s what everyone that’s powerful gets to do. It’s a perk.
You’re in high school and a little confused about your sexuality, well guess what? There’s a brazilian people on the Internet who are more than happy to push you into becoming gay or changing your sex or what have you.
I also blame unions. They give a voice to the extreme factions of society as well. Here at the high school where I work, I’m amazed at all the teachers that I find that are actually conservative and are terrified to speak up. I was in a biology teacher’s office trying to set up her printer and there was a stack of two sets of books there “10 Stupid Things Women Do to Mess up Their Lives”and “10 Stupid Things Men Do to Mess up Their Lives”. I said, ooh you know about Dr. Laura? (cuz silly me, I assumed if you were in a public high school, you were liberal) And she says “yes, please don’t say anything, I don’t want to lose my job” Somehow I’ve become a beacon for these teachers, mostly because they’re in my shop getting stuff fixed and they feel it’s safe to chat. But they’re terrified. Teachers unions are just awful. Look at what the L.A. Teachers union is putting their nose into that doesn’t belong, they have so much money, they can roflstomp over everyone. It’s why they don’t want charter schools. It’s not about the kids, we all know that, it’s about the money. Charter schools don’t pay into unions. I went to a union conference (California State Employees Association) and they said if charter schools don’t pay into the state coffer, that takes away from our retirement, we get fully funded til the day we die, no matter how much money we put in, so the more charter schools that open up, the less money we have…so in reality, I guess it’s money, not necessarily the unions. Money and the Internet are what are screwing people up.
Also? HHD. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
At one time Pelosi was attractive.
She’s 80 also, if I didn’t despise her very existence, and get annoyed every time I saw her face, I might even be able to say she’s attractive for her age.
And he wears his pants up around his fucking armpits. It’s like, “Hey, I know I’m a total toolbox so I might as well dress like one.
I had to look it up yesterday, dude is 5’4″…and an asshole to boot.
You have to wonder…what his district is made up of that would think yeah, this guy is rad?

I was reading your comment but after a couple of inches my mind started wandering …
-did not find a 20-
Here is my theory; we were founded in a society that was strongly influenced by Judeo Christian thought. It was for the most part a tolerant society. Our social contract was simple, if you follow our values you are welcome. Like all things it is a bell curve, there were a few things that were unacceptable to our society, like murder that if you violated our norms you were killed or imprisoned. This survived for generations, yes there were people outside the bell on either end, but the vast majority were in the middle and accepted the premise that our society worked with these rules. Religious people do not see how those who are not can still have their values. I just think irreligious people for the most part can go along with a society that is tolerant, and prosperous.
I heard someone say something along the lines of “Wisdom and Prudence had a daughter Prosperity, who killed her parents, and ran off with Debauchery”.
I think the past several generations have lived without wisdom and prudence, and the bell curve has shifted. There are still people who were raised to accept the values of our society and wish to continue in that tradition. Yet there are more and more who have rejected those values and are raising generations that reject them as well.
I don’t think there is any need to say were are at a tipping point, but the world view of both sides has diverged so far it seems to me there can be no reconciliation.
Despite lower humidity it’s still effin hot. Feel like I’ll need a second shower later.
I was reading your comment but after a couple of inches my mind started wandering …

Vmax, so much more to the point than me.
My barber is a woman who is also a hairstylist and does a few women’s cut here and there. I’ve been there about a dozen times and seen 90% boys/men and the rest girls/women. Since her usual hairstylist is AWOL during the Covid BS Paula decided to give her a try today. She tested me that she was cringing because the lady kept cutting more and more to make it even and she was concerned that she might have cut too much.
Does anyone know why she was upset when I replied “I’m sure it looks fine Butch!”?
“I’m sure it looks fine Butch!”?
ahahaha, you ass
I actually used to go to my boys’ barber. Cost me $11…I wore a lot of lipstick so I didn’t look butch
But my hair was that short because when it’s long and you get pinned in jiu-jitsu, there’s no really good way to turn and get out of it if your hair is long….you just get your hair ripped out of your head, so I was like, screw that, I’m just gonna chop it all off.
Barber cut and a scab on my nose, but no pain from hair pulling in jits

Exactly what is that vest actually FOR? It looks like a weight vest or bullet proof vest – but it doesn’t look like actually has pockets for either.
So … it’s just a costume? For LARPing.
Hope the couch is comfy tonight Jimbro
Without God, there’s no reason to be “good” aside from chemical rewards in the brain for doing things evolutionary processes deemed valuable. Good can’t even be plainly defined in the absence of God, you just end up with some sort of meat-brain version of a paperclip maximizer that declares some things better than others for reasons that are perpetually open to dispute.
God made Man with a God-sized hole in his heart. Some holes are bigger than others. Everyone tries to fill it, mostly with the wrong things, but nothing else will do. The moderns left has elevated secular humanism to a modern, debased paganism, completely consumed with the creation of an earthly “heaven” that they intend to build no matter how many murders it takes.
Without God, there’s no reason to be “good” aside from chemical rewards in the brain for doing things evolutionary processes deemed valuable.
What Vmax just said, “Religious people do not see how those who are not can still have their values.”
No, I can see that they have them, but I’ve never heard a satisfactory explanation for why they have them that rose above biochem.
Christianity is a weird beast in that it is at its core an internal religion that evolved over time to adopt public elements.
Personally, I blame multiculturalism and the cult of radical individualism for the problems today. Both the progressive left and the libertarian right sought to undermine the traditions, institutions, and cultural glue that held society together.
Does anyone know why she was upset when I replied “I’m sure it looks fine Butch!”?
Call her “Pete”.
Or “Oso”.
Swallwell is okay looking and he isn’t short.
He is a giant Baby Huey and that isn’t even in the realm of okay looking. He’s doughy and a goober who gives zero shits about farting on camera.
I still cannot see what anyone found attractive about that a-hole BillyJeff or the JEF. Both creepers.
As I ineptly implied before going off on the social contract tangent Leon, I think there are several reasons, from being raised “that way”, to the social contract, logic, or some combination of all of them and more.
If you want to keep what you worked hard for then you either need to stay home and protect it 24/7, hire armed guards (or an army) or have a society that respects the rule of law. Sure God said “thou shall not steal” but you do not have to be religious to see that that is a good idea.
I just saw her and it looks fine. She has a very feminine face and is a shorty (shawty in the vernacular) so no one will confuse her with a carpet muncher. Does not drive a Subaru so no problem. All that Crossfit has given her guns though and it’s common for male patients to ask her “So, you work out or something?”.
Her main complaint is she can’t put it up in a ponytail without strands falling out. It’s still grabbable so all is good
So, you’re calling Carin a lesbo?
I still believe there can be a reconciliation. So strongly in fact I just stopped and purchased 120 reconciliation seeds in 5.56 62 grain armor piercing in battle pack. I figure by next spring itll be time to plant them.
Christians say “this is what we believe and this is why we believe it”
Our founding fathers said hey this works, lets combine a moral code, freedom, the rule of law, and individual liberty within these constraints. That is what I am calling the social contract.
You can reject what we believe and why, after all there are about 500 denominations that do to one extent or other, and still accept the social contract.
Way back in college we took both Philosophy and Ethics as a part of our core curriculum. I only remember snippets of it but a lot of the foundations were laid before monotheism was a big deal. That would lean toward the whole social contract notion. I’m not disagreeing with God as the center of good behavior but the nonbelievers need a carrot and stick too.
Religious people do not see how those who are not can still have their values.
You can absolutely have values but where do they come from?
If you lived on a remote island and your culture said you had to eat who you killed, you sewed girl’s hoohaws shut at puberty, sacrificed virgins on altars, or killed anyone over the age of 40, do you accept those values because that’s all you’ve known since birth and continue to perpetuate them or move to some other place where the culture values less pain and more life?
Before Biblical God/Christ were we, as a species, already doing what most of what the Ten Commandments required? Respect your parents, no murder, no stealing, you better not get googly with the neighbor’s wife, etc and then Biblical God stuff happened and decided we better highlight these things because human nature needs to be tamed.
Spitballing.
If you’re from the left you believe that a monkey jizzed on a rock and let the sun hatch it. Therefore our values come from the sun.
Yeah, the last few things Vmax said. Our ‘social contract’ which does incorporate Judeo Christian values, is what separates us from the turd world.
I found out last night that my cousins are finally doing a funeral for my aunt. Visitation is today and funeral, tomorrow. I’ve not heard about limiting it to 10 people.
Were I not still recovering, I’d go. I’ll just send one of the cousins some flowers and a card.
I get that, Jimbro, but that level of reasoning still gets you to “tribes that do this ‘thrive’ for some value of ‘thrive’, and win fights and resource competitions with tribes that don’t”. You get Aztecs and Olmecs who sacrifice captured enemies to “gods”, you get Spartans committing infanticide on “deformed” infants, the whole gamut. They “thrived” in a Darwinian sense, but were any of them “good”? They’d say so, just like an SS officer pushing Jews onto a rail car was sure he was good and righteous. Without God, “good” is relative.
It seems many of the school districts here, the hoity toity and the city public, are going to online this fall. Their teachers are terrified.
My district seems to be the only one where 80% of the parents and 90% of the teachers, want to go back to the classroom..which, last I heard, they are doing with some online for the frightened.
Their teachers are
terrifiedtotes looking forward to “working from home” and having spare time to stuff ballot boxes.Fixt.
Interesting and thoughtful discussion today. Perhaps more useful in a spiritual sense than fecal regularity.
Non-religious folk used to have a sort of cultural substrate to fall back on that was at least informed by Christianity. Wasn’t the same, as a rule not as effective, but at least folks weren’t regularly trying to burn their cities down.
Now that Christianity has been all but banished from nearly everything? That’s not there. Look at the culture now. It’s about as anti-Christ as I can imagine without going full Khmer Rouge (and given time it will).
There’s a rule: Just because you are an exception and turned out fine doesn’t mean everybody will, or even most. That’s been a lesson I learned the hard way, and some never learn it.
Beasn,
I am arguing that the irreligious have morals without religion. The Judeo part of our values goes back a long way before the Christian part.
I will guess it evolved. You can see that in the animal kingdom, might makes right. The alpha gets the females and the pick of the food. There was a pecking order that was fought over, life death and respect of parents were not considerations.
As society went from packs to tribes the alpha could still pick and choose but most likely started adding protections to the tribe so as to stay in power, like no one can google your wife except me.
I won’t go farther on the evolution of society, but to bolster my point you can see it now, people flee their island because they want a better life but still do the things they always did on the island.
It takes a open, flexible mind to see it is better somewhere else because I was doing it wrong, not I want it better but I am not the problem.
Buddhism was around looooong before Christianity and is not Judeo-Christian and they were peaceful. You can be peaceful and not be a Christian or Jew.
Here are the 5 precepts of Buddhism
The Five Precepts
I undertake to observe the rule:
1. to abstain from taking life
2. to abstain from taking what is not given
3. to abstain from sensuous misconduct
4. to abstain from false speech
5. to abstain from intoxicants as tending to cloud the mind
Vmax, I don’t think you were inept. I think you were really good at explaining my views w/out my incoherent ramblings
Hotspur, Swalwell is NOT good looking. In fact, I think he looks mental because his face is so weird.
Perhaps more useful in a spiritual sense than fecal regularity.
I can’t help it….I cannot help it, this songs has to be linked every time I hear anything about constipation.
PJM, the point I was trying to make is your Merv is an exception.
The crazy in this country are not religious people.
You get Aztecs and Olmecs who sacrifice captured enemies to “gods”, you get Spartans committing infanticide on “deformed” infants, the whole gamut.
Ancient Jews sacrificed children.
Buddhism is a religion, last I checked, and includes a full set of beliefs about why that ethos is to be obeyed that goes well beyond the physical. Without a transcendent justification, those are just words, and they won’t be honored “in the breach”, when power allows the law to be ignored, or when secrecy is assured or assumed.
Even men who believe fall prey to temptation, or Solomon would not have been born. BUT, that situation is only noteworthy because it was a violation of a law larger than any human judge could enforce. Without that, it’s just a man of privilege exercising it.
Ancient Jews sacrificed children.
Their neighbors that worshiped Ba’al did, that’s the unstated reason for the most of the early so-called “genocides” in the OT. I’d like to see a citation for this statement, as it’s one I’ve not heard outside of things like Blood Passover references in unsavory corners of the internet.
PJM, the point I was trying to make is your Merv is an exception
I agree that crazy are not religious people, but I disagree that Merv is the exception. I’ve met far too many agnostic/atheist hostages and others who are conservative and have never been raised in religious households.
The Bible clearly states that God abhorred child sacrifice.
Buddhism is a religion, last I checked, and includes a full set of beliefs about why that ethos is to be obeyed that goes well beyond the physical
Yes, but not a Judeo Christian one. That was my point
It is possible for the non-believer to adopt an ethic similar to Christianity through reason, after all we are the product of Adam’s fall through eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. We became like God in knowing good and evil (having reason and the ability to see symbolically) but were still unlike God in that our knowledge is limited. Reason based on experience will be flawed because our experience is limited. Reason based on logic alone is dangerous, because we are incapable of the full understanding necessary to build such mental models. Hence the need for faith and the associated structure around it (the rituals, the culture, etc.) Such things provide a check against human weakness and arrogance, and a way to store and pass on the collective wisdom of generations.

Okay Butch
Yes, but not a Judeo Christian one. That was my point
I’m not the one using that term. The Law is written on the human heart, and the “Judeo” part of that has always given me pause, since the Jews teach that they alone are chosen. The Christian position is that what they were chosen for happened about 2000 years ago, so that time is passed. “Equality” is a Christian idea, rooted in St Paul’s letters, not in Hebrew scripture. New Covenant or No Covenant.
Aside from all that, Buddha pre-dates Christ and his followers weren’t likely to meet a Jew for quite some time, so they sought after the one and only God the creator of all that is as best they were able in the absence of any witnesses to Christ or any sons of Abraham.
Did Jesus ever ride a magic horse? I bet he didn’t.
An atheist cannot claim that “all men are equal”. Not in ability, not in utility, not in value, and cannot define “dignity” as it pertains to human life. A Christian has been directly told (arguably by God Himself) that all human lives and souls are valuable to God, and not one of them is more valuable than another.
You may not have used Judeo Christian, but I did when I put my comment as I was responding to others who have specifically mentioned Judeo Christian
What does a gay black midget need to do to get a few dick pics?
Holy crap, I had noooo idea my Internet search history was viewable all the way back to 1996
Agree with the first part. Disagree with the second. Dignity would be different but largely the same. I think the atheist could just copy the definition in terms of values.
And I have no idea why anyone would claim that all men are equal in terms of utility, ability, or in value. Why would anyone make that claim?
Is someone genuinely complaining that it’s hard to find pictures of dicks on the internet?
I call shenanigans.
Leon just wants to collect foreskins.
Gross!
Has anyone had frose? Is that a thing in other parts of the country?
I disagree completely Leon
Any human who is alive can posit that life is valuable regardless of if it is valuable to God or not.
I have no thoughts about dignity but equality is not a stretch for post enlightenment society. It was a radical liberal thought that offended many Christians and is not stated anywhere in the bible.
I have not heard for frose…but we have froyo?
Leon just wants to collect foreskins.
New Covenant or No Covenant. The last cut foreskin that mattered was the one the rabbi took from the second person of the Trinity.
Frose > frayo
An atheist cannot claim that “all men are equal”
So I posed this entire comment from Leon to an atheist friend of mine who is 100% ok with the Christian right and does not dislike them, but I am prepared for the butthurt his response will probably get.
“An atheist doesn’t need an invisible man to tell him the difference between right and wrong. There are plenty of Christian people that believe “the word” that do absolutely despicable things to other people. Including priests.”
So I posed the “how can you know right from wrong w/out God” and am awaiting that response
It is however a logical extension of new testament thought.
And I have no idea why anyone would claim that all men are equal in terms of utility, ability, or in value. Why would anyone make that claim?
Those three values often appear in discussions of ethics. For example, you see versions of all three in the abortion debate.
If you want to claim that all men are equal you either have to make the claim that they are equal based on some innate, metaphysical quality, or that they are equal based on some external, physical quality. His point is that you can’t do so based on external qualities, since all men are different, so you have to have some more basic aspect of being human with which to base your argument. Atheists, by rejecting the supernatural and the idea of man as a creation of God, eliminate any metaphysical argument for the equality of men.

It was a radical liberal thought that offended many Christians and is not stated anywhere in the bible.
Respectfully, please tell that to the Ethiopian Eunuch, and to St Paul:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galations 3:28. If Christians were offended at the notion, they were bad at Christianity. I’m not saying you’re wrong, I’m saying they were. The very basis for the “Enlightenment” notion is explicitly biblical.
Now prove all men are equal with something other than God as the basis for the statement. I warn you that science is not your friend here.
Followup with doc, cleared for light duty starting Monday, no heavy lifting until Sept.
Any human who is alive can posit that life is valuable regardless of if it is valuable to God or not.
That’s the problem, “posit”. You’re assuming something as fact, without necessarily any evidence of such. It’s just as easy to posit that not all life is valuable, and in fact much of the progressive movement in the past century has been to argue that is precisely the case.
Followup with doc, cleared for light duty starting Monday, no heavy lifting until Sept.
Woot! see…even your doctor wanted you to chill out.
wtf is frose
I spent myself in the garden this morning, will go back when the shadow covers the yard tonight.
Now it’s time to go food shopping and make a nice dinner for that guy I live with. He’s got a crush on me and I’m keeping it that way.
While I have seen cases where atheists can live and believe in very moral manners, in every case that person was bringing forward elements from religious tradition that were refitted to a strictly non-religious format. Mostly this was Christian (just because that’s the bulk of what I encounter) but I’ve seen cases of other faiths of origin as well. A Marxist atheist is incapable of following that path for the simple reason that the things the moral atheist has kept, the Marxist specifically rejects, and that includes things like forgiveness and redemption.
And these days, the dominant culture is increasingly Marxist, rather than Christian in origin.
You are correct, it is implied but not stated, I even forgot about man being created in the image of God. Old testament
I am a Christian and not versed in atheist arguments I am just saying 10-20 generations after the enlightenment all men are created equal is pretty ingrained in western thought.
It’s just as easy to posit that not all life is valuable, and in fact much of the progressive movement in the past century has been to argue that is precisely the case.
But that is the progressive movement. That’s not what we’re discussing here. We’re discussing how atheists/agnostics can indeed not be assholes.
When my family found out Merv was an agnostic, they about lost their minds and disowned me (not kidding, not exaggerating, they took my ex-husband’s side in teh divorce until my kids went to them w/out my knowledge and told my parents they were terrified their dad was going to murder me). They would have much rather had my ex-husband around who converted to Catholicism.
It’s only now after getting to know Merv, that they can see that an agnostic is not necessarily the dickhead portrayed in the media. That there are SOOO many agnostics and atheists out there that are just chill people who are in the middle or even conservative. And know wrong from right w/out religion.
Another response I just received “Good” evolves as man does. There were things that were perfectly acceptable not too long ago, (slavery, discrimination based on color, beating your wife, to name a few) that are now considered “bad”, because they are. God didn’t write a new chapter in the bible about any of that stuff, which is odd, but I digress. We as a species figured out that that stuff is bad and changed things. “
Now it’s time to go food shopping and make a nice dinner for that guy I live with. He’s got a crush on me and I’m keeping it that way
Yeah, I get the idea he digs your chili (I don’t really know what that means, it’s a Rosetta-ism)
You really, really don’t want to live in a world where “Good” evolves. That gets you to factory-farmed “meat” or state-enforced veganism right along with tearing down statues of Robert E Lee and The Virgin Mary. The devolution of “Good” is exactly the problem right now, everywhere and in everyfrigginthing.
Now it’s time to go food shopping and make a nice dinner for that guy I live with. He’s got a crush on me and I’m keeping it that way.
What does Scott think of him?
after the enlightenment all men are created equal is pretty ingrained in western thought.
That’s what the progressives are changing. Harm a pregnant woman and cause her to miscarry, you go to jail for murder. The same pregnant woman pays you $1200 to perform an abortion, it’s healthcare and a guaranteed right that should be paid for with taxpayer dollars. The only difference is whether that baby, that person is wanted or not. I tell my lib co-workers, do you really want a society where whether you live or die is determined on whether you are wanted or not. (See Obama’s give grandma a pill instead of life-saving surgery.)
On a side note, I wonder if that’s why NY and NJ sent covid patients into the nursing homes, to deliberately decrease the population and Medicare/Medicaid spending there.
Alex,
If I can selfishly think that my life has value it is not too hard to extend that to others.
Yet I am 100% positive that as a selfish individual my life is more valuable than yours in the specific that effects me. In the general though it is not hard to say that life has value.
The abortion argument is classic they should be rare unless it inconveniences me.
You really, really don’t want to live in a world where “Good” evolves. That gets you to factory-farmed “meat” or state-enforced veganism right along with tearing down statues of Robert E Lee and The Virgin Mary.
but that’s where we are. It’s good slavery is gone. Robert E Lee statue, I don’t care about really. It should have been moved to a museum, but I don’t care about it. Virgin Mary statue? Yeah, not ok. Private property shouldn’t be mucked with. That’s too far.
When people take it too far a civil war will happen…and that’s when a correction will occur. I certainly believe we’re on the cusp of that.
I do believe our rights are being eroded. I don’t think we should have no-knock raids, I don’t believe the government should be able to just take our property because they think we “may have committed” a crime. That’s terrifying that this happens. I do not believe the police should be militarized. This kinda stuff happens and it’s bad. My dad is retired sheriff and I have family members who are LEO, I’m certainly not anti police, but some of this stuff is terrifying https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/police-blew-up-an-innocent-mans-house-in-search-of-an-armed-shoplifter-too-bad-court-rules/ar-AAJzs8t
on a fun note (actually, I think having these kinds of discussions we’ve been having is fun)
but on a FUNNER note, my rooster is supposed to come today.

Honestly, I think the court ruled correctly in that case. The one liable for the damage is the armed robber who barricaded himself inside the house.
While insurance did cover structural damage initially, his son did not have renter’s insurance and so insurance did not cover replacement of the home’s contents, and he says he is still in debt today from loans he took out.
If you choose not to purchase insurance, that’s on you.
I’m very confused with the insurance comment. In the article, it says they’re very well insured..but is it his dad owns the home and had it insured, but the son didn’t have renter’s ins?
That’s what it sounds like.
Why are you gettting a rooster?
My rower arrived.
Hotspur, Swalwell is NOT good looking. In fact, I think he looks mental because his face is so weird.
I said he was okay looking, not good looking. I can imagine he doesn’t make your juices flow, but I suspect that is more from the letter behind his name rather than his sex appeal.
but on a FUNNER note, my rooster is supposed to come today.

Carin, this is a conversation Merv and I had
Saw this in a neighborhood when I was doing Instacart.
Me to Merv: No compromise, I want this in our yard.
Merv. actually
I do have a compromise
Me: Nooooo, none.
Him: first let me offer
the answer No
I’m willing to hear counter offers
but in no way will it change my mind.
Me: hahahaha
worst
compromise EVER
sooo, now I have a 5ft tall rooster in our yard
Did you check with your HOA first?
Nice. One of my crossfit friends has one.
I wanted something like this for our yard to express my solidarity with my Mexican neighbors. The missus was having none of it.

I was at my mom’s house a little while back and she was watching some Barbara O’Neil (sp?) videos on youtube. This woman presents on various health topics and she blends in religion and natural healing, etc.
I must say, everything she said about the chemical/ mechanical processes in the body jibe with what I learned in anatomy and physiology, pathology etc.
Interestingly, when she touched upon some religious themes, I got some nuggets of wisdom that I have been rolling around in my head ever since.
One: She said that when God communicates with people, He does it through their intellect- the prefrontal cortex physically located at the front of the head- and not the emotions.
As an example, she mentions that the act of forgiveness is an intellectual achievement, not an act of emotion. When you forgive someone, you are performing a feat of intellect and subjugating your meat-brain that wants to hate them forever.
When I think about forgiveness, personally, I think about how hard it is to move on in your life without it. I think about how the brotherhood of mankind is absolutely impossible without some kind of forgiveness. You cannot build a damn thing between people if no one is able to reconcile past wrongs.
It struck me that a lot of current political ‘thought’ is actually allowing supremacy to emotions, which leads to truly evil acts and the destruction of intellectual achievement.
Another, somewhat tangential way a religious person might put this is, “The Devil cannot create anything, only pervert and destroy. Only God can create.”
It may just be that my mind went down that path because I think of a lot of theology as metaphors for interpreting how life really works, and not the literal word of God. A religious person would say that I have got the cart before the horse, but I don’t think so.
Peej is doing that thing where the girlfriend tests the boyfriend to see if he actually has a backbone, or if she can walk all over him. Let’s see how it goes.
Calm down Bread.
It would probably get stolen. It’s pretty cool.
I’ve had a concrete garden gnome in the yard for years. It’s only 2 feet tall though, consistent with the typical gnome dimensions.
Peej is doing that thing where the girlfriend tests the boyfriend to see if he actually has a backbone, or if she can walk all over him. Let’s see how it goes.
haha no, after 5 years I know there’s NO freaking way I can walk all over this guy. I wouldn’t like him if I could.
He’ll actually find it funny and won’t mind it. Probably doesn’t look that way from teh back and forth I posted, but he just likes to sass.
He’s THE most alpha male I’ve ever been with…and interestingly enough, I get along with him better than any man I’ve ever dated.
Huh, that sounds like I’m over-explaining, but it was a thought that just occurred to me. Dang
I have a pretty cool concrete griffin outside my garden gate. Some guy didn’t want to pay to ship it.
Actually, now I look it up, it isn’t a griffin. Something else. It is a bit stylized but it appears to have the head and body of a lion, feathered wings, and a long tail either of a serpent or a fish, I can’t tell.
I don’t know what all these mythical creatures are called. But it’s that one.
Hippogriff?
Hippogriff is the flying horse with the head and wings of an eagle.
Might be a chimera.
Not a great pic, but there are wings there, flat against either side of the tail.
ooh I love lionpigman!!!
Manticores aren’t winged, so that’s not it.
That would probably be suuuuper spendy to ship I imagine
Suppose it could just be a winged lion, and that’s not a tail.
Well, Scott wasn’t even happy with hauling it to my garden, so imagine the price to Cali.
Well, Scott wasn’t even happy with hauling it to my garden, so imagine the price to Cali.
Yeah…they could probably just buy a new one at a roadside concrete market out here. I’ve always wanted to stop by one of those. One day….one…day
It seems like whenever we have something 200+ lbs to ship, it’s to the West coast and the people balk.
“But it only cost $50!”
Well, it doesn’t fit in an envelope and it’s 3000 miles away from your house. I did not make you get drunk and join an online auction, not sure why you are angry with *me* about it.

Those people are my favorite. Same with the teachers who put their only copy of their sister’s wedding photos (which have nothing to do with their work as a teacher) as they were the photographer on their work computer and their hard drive dies and then they’re incensed that we don’t have a place for them to back up all 1,000gb of their pics and music. (this was before google drive, they can back alll that stuff up now)
Lauraw, when I met Merv 8 years ago, this was THE very first video I sent him to try to lure him into my snare…I mean, it took me 3 years, but I feel this video got me off (SYWM) on the right foot.

That video is pure raw sex
my boots are sticky, indeed.
(I have no idea what that means)
Peej, you’ve never stopped at a roadside concrete market? We gifted “Lots” of concrete animals and Saints to my InLaws. My cousin bought their home for their college kids. Close to UNM. Saints and animals are still there. I have a squirrel in a swing that has been in my pantry for 20 years. I have no idea where to hang it.
Peej, you’ve never stopped at a roadside concrete market? We gifted “Lots” of concrete animals and Saints to my InLaws.
Actually, you know what? That’s incorrect. I don’t even know why I said that. I have never gone with the intention to buy, I guess is more the reality. I took the kids to one in Texas and one in El Cajon. Must have blocked it out, too traumatic

Serial question – how does a vile person like Nadler win elections? He’s obese, short, obese, short, ugly, short, obese, short, and has that despicable NY accent. Did I mention that he’s obese and short? Oh, and he’s ugly.
So, you’re saying I could win an election in Nadler’s district? Cool!
I couldn’t find Squirrel in a swing. Dan says it’s a rabbit in a swing. He swears he didn’t sell it in a yard sale.
TiFW, you are short. That’s it. None of the rest apply.
Nadler is ugly on the inside. That’s what matters.
But I think the inside leaked into his outside.
So, evidently he’s into train wrecks……
Yeah, the big dummy
guy on a Buffalo is on this weeks Yellowstone episode
Nadler is ugly on the inside. That’s what matters.
Yeah, he’s a nasty little troll. He was probably what was actually in oso’s pantry and he escaped. That’s my guess
I never bought trolls or elves. I vaguely remember him moving to Santa Fe. (I’m kind of worried TiFW is taller than I am. I didn’t get the Pete or the Butch. Boss lady gave me a modified Karen)
Speaking of Guy on a Buffalo … Hey Peej, gotta Thursday post in you? Or Carin, MJ, Lauraw, Alex … I’m not picky!
(says the guy who bought a concrete garden gnome)
oooooooooh!! PICK ME!! PICK ME!!!!!! I’ll post
er, I mean, yeah, it’s cool if you want me to post something. Whatever
Regular or themed Garden Gnome?
You shall be called IT!
Thanks
Dan made Mississippi pot roast with pork butt. First night was roast meal. 2nd night was with BBQ sauce on Hawaiian dinner rolls. Tonight, red chile tacos on flour tortillas.
Standard garden variety garden gnome. He predates themed gnomes.
“Vintage”
Restaurant Depot has ground elk.
Is it worth $6.99 lb?
Scott, if you like gamey meat, yes,
Great. Dan’s second obsession is “Pickers”.

Wait…seriously?
Argh, I wish you didn’t have to pay to watch it…you rich people, you
Anything is worth $7 to try it.
Is Elk gamier than venison? Since it’s bigger, I would imagine so.
Paramount TV isn’t on free tv somewhere?
That’s just a big “?” in the back.

Farm elk isn’t gamey.
Google says “It is very tender and does not need marinating. -The taste of elk is similar to beef. Elk has a little more flavor, just enough to know you’re eating something special.”
I can always taste the game. See also Grass fed buffalo. I want my meat processed in the grocery store. As God intended. (Scott is probably right. Usually right)
Probably written by Big Elk.
I really enjoyed buffalo steak.

CO. It was awesome, until it wasn’t. I don’t like antelope. Puma. Elk. Deer. Bear. I can always taste the game. BFFs grandfather was a Game Sport reporter. He travelled around the world, killing and providing meat. He did fish, too. I had to taste so much wild.

That’s weird, It’s not free for me on Prime. I’d have to pay $2.50 an episode and I’m like meh
course, I’ll pay $10 for a bag of caramel corn for my kids football stuff.

Atheists, by rejecting the supernatural and the idea of man as a creation of God, eliminate any metaphysical argument for the equality of men.
———————-
Ok, I think I follow this. So the claim is that all men are different until you reduce man to a soul or something beyond the physical. But in order to believe in something more than physical you introduce god and therefore atheists end up owning all men are not of equal value cuz we’re all just meat sacks.
Ok got it. It’s a really interesting line of reasoning. I wouldn’t have assumed that anyone would try to make both claims – that we’re all equal at some point but there is not god. I just assumed you’d own the we’re all different position and be done with it.
6/10 would smash Eve
I worked 5 pallets of books today. Back is screaming. Bibles are still theft mode, reading glasses? Serial?
It’s not that they make both claims, necessarily, it’s that they assume the equality idea implicitly without realizing that its utter nonsense in the absence of a loving God who is as revealed in the NT.
I have wondered if I would have taken the fruit from Eve, were I Adam. Without knowing what comes after, it’s really hard to say. I like to think I would say no, but I have the hindsight he couldn’t have had.

Even wasn’t just another human, she was a part of Adam. He would have been abandoning part of himself if he refused. I always liked Milton’s portrayal of Adam as choosing to go into damnation because he couldn’t bear the thought of losing her.
Also, I’ve long interpreted the first two chapters of Genesis as implying that there were other human beings on Earth, but that Adam and Eve were special to God, and after The Fall were unique in their ability to grasp higher reason.

I tend to think of Adam and Eve as the first self-aware/rationally-ensouled humans as the species matured. Adam may have been born, then Eve was fashioned from him rather than him be left alone.

No Laura, that’s not considered heretical these days, at least not to Catholics. The literal reading of Genesis is a novel thing among 19th century American protestants. It’s been read and understood as allegory since at least as early as St Augustine. It is Myth in the proper sense. The story as presented is true, but the exact details aren’t what matter or what’s meant to be looked for.
Genesis is the story of the creation of the Jewish people, not the creation of the world. The purpose is to give understanding of their relationship to God and to the wider world.

She’s been having auditory hallucinations. Says we are fighting and she’s wore out from all the fighting. She’s been coming up the stairs in the middle of the night due to our fighting. The neighbors must be hearing it.
Today she heard it during the day which isn’t possible because Mr. B was on conference calls all day and I was quietly going about my business. Then, this evening, she called my BIL crying…saying how she can’t take the fighting anymore. I was in the bathroom and Mr. B had gone to up to bed at 7:30 (he gets up really early for calls). My niece called me to tell me she was on the phone with her dad.
I went down to deal with MIL and she went off on me. Hurtful stuff. While I realize there is probably something organic going on, stuff came out that I always knew was under the surface. My sister in law and I have always felt we were considered/treated as outsiders. Even with that knowledge, I invited her in and never disrespected her.
