My gift box for Secret Santa went out Monday. I really ought to look at the tracking number to make sure it’s moving.
My homeowner’s insurance for camp and this house are due roughly around the same time so I just mail a single check for both. Because it was near the due date I mailed it as a certified letter. The fcuking letter made it to Portland in 24 hours and sat there for 2 weeks before some fatass could be bothered to pick it up. The cancellation letters went out with great efficiency though. I’m thinking that because it was the middle of the summer Darlene or Madge, who normally gets the mail at the post office, was off sitting by a lake and the college interns were left in charge

Reading lumps article from last night – And I brought it up before but both my mom and her sister are big vax’ers. They BOTH had strokes w/in 6 months of each other. They’re both older, so it happens, but strokes haven’t really happened on that side of the family, so w/in 6 months is … weird.

Nice video, Mare. When we had a pond it was really neat how many different creatures suddenly appeared. Although while I was waiting for that first waterlily blossom to emerge every spring I was not amused by the lilypads being devoured by a mama deer, putting the plants behind schedule. And sometimes when I’d walk out there to sit with a coffee in the morning, a frog would suddenly scream and jump in the water, which was startling. I flinched and lost some coffee every time.

BUt he said that after the last set of orders came in NONE have come. not for his class or the classes behind him which should have started getting orders.

Secret Santa gift should have gone out yesterday, but I worked past the time the post office was open. Looks more likely today.
I saw that trans hockey player hit yesterday somewhere, maybe PJ Media. It hardly looked like a big hit although the clip could be deceiving. The only hockey I’ve seen is the NHL on TV and they deliver massive hits and checks which are usually tolerated because the players are aware it’s coming. Defenseless players do get hit now and then but it’s the exception.
After reading that Daily Mail article (actually skimming through it because I don’t care enough about it to read for detail) I’m even more confused about the whole thing. The entire episode and league reminds me of circus freaks which frankly is an insult to circus freaks.
Every now and then I have the idea that building a little pond in the back yard would be fun but then I worry that the EPA would find an endangered animal there and make me leave it there forever. It would be pretty easy given the layout of my yard with two areas that are downhill slopes with hillocks on either side. The natural flow of water from rain goes in the depressions and is almost always moist and soggy much like your mom. Building a wall on the downhill side would allow water to accumulate pretty fast.

Pretty sure our bus drivers when we were kids were not drug free. I know for a fact one wasn’t. He got narced out by a student and brought a dirt bag friend along to intimidate the kid at the bus stop! This happened on my best friend’s bus. Kids who saw it were talking about it at school.

I think there’s a different story to be told about public education. Most of what I hear is that teachers are quitting because the job sucks. And it does, mostly. But parents are also quitting.
Enrollment in public schools is down and it’s predicted to keep going that way.
We’ll end up with a two tiered system pretty soon, I think.
We’ve got many tiers now. “Public schooling” was the original “public option” like they tried for insurance when they were pushing what eventually became the garbage of 0-care. At the time they stoked fears among the WASPs that all the Catholic schools being opened by waves of immigrants were going to make the US a hostage of Rome as the children grew up and converted.
Well-to-do families always opted out for education, just like they do now for medicine, banking, etc.

Regarding the mountain dog in a snowbank comment from last night, we had the opposite – a little black Lab mix who would happily lie on her back in the sunniest part of the yard when it was 100 degrees out. (She also hated water. Never seen a Lab that hated water before or since.)
I can power snatch. I can’t get under the bar for a full snatch.

I’d forgotten the squat in a barbell snatch. A KB snatch is much more like a power snatch, just upward motion, hips don’t come down save for the very beginning of the swing.
I have no problem with dumbbell snatches. And as I said I can power snatch. I just feel like barbell snatches are pointless for me because I doubt I could ever get under the bar fast enough. Very few people at the gym do them well tbh.
New doctor is a spaz but not woke, so I’ll keep her. The nurse asked if I’d had the jab, I said no, and she nodded and said quietly, “Good.” Doc didn’t say anything about it at all but suggested I get a flu shot (no). It was such a rapid fire conversation, I was exhausted afterwards.
I went to Costco afterwards, thinking it’s Wednesday morning, it shouldn’t be too crowded. I don’t think many people are working any more, but somehow they have money for shopping.

Simmering some white beans with a home-cured and smoked turkey leg in there. I am trying Aldi’s bone broth and as far as I can tell, it’s top notch.
Comes in a glass jar, no starches or msg or weird stuff in the ingredients. Ingredients list indicates it is a stock of vegetables and chicken, that’s it, and it tastes good, tastes almost like real homemade chicken broth, not like that insipid ‘college inn’ crapola or the ones that taste like the tin can. Plus it is strong enough that I was able to add some water I needed to, without it making the broth taste too diluted.
Gonna put some more of those in the pantry. Need to try the beef one next. I love soups in winter, especially the ones that take all wintry Sunday to make. But now and then you want to throw an easy one together and it’s hard to make enough home-canned broth ahead of time. I’m down to a few jars of mine and it’s starting to feel precious.
Maybe I just need a whopping big canner so I can make bigger batches at one time. Mine is 7 quarts and it just doesn’t seem like a good deal anymore.
We got two bone in hams from work. Dan is making a soup tomorrow. He didn’t want a chowder. I told him about the bone broth, but he’s going with regular chicken stock. He called me “Grogu.” Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian loves bone broth.
