Welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day.

Seems appropriate to have a song from “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” today.

Now for the hunks.

Fake redhead for Carin.

Flying the friendly skies.

Some place warm.

Delta is ready when you are.

Last, but not least.

And that will do for today.

Thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week, and y’all have a good day.

That movie sums up this election and serves as a metaphor for 2020 in general without the laughter provided from John Candy’s role

And big tech censorship is frightening. They really are historically ignorant. This always ends poorly.

When people are morally scolded, shunned, and generally spat upon eventually they get tired of it. At some point a total weirdo is going to understand this and harness the anger.

One of my friends died of Cancer in his 30s, right after he had a baby. That was pretty rough. We weren’t close, but I still think about what a nice guy he was, and I’m sad he didn’t get to see his girl grow up.

I’m kind of doing traditional, just because everyone likes the sides so much. No turkey, you have too care too much to avoid drying it out so spiral sliced ham, green bean casserole, cauliflower mac and cheese with bacon and crushed pork rinds on top, garlic mashed potatoes, Hawaiian rolls, and dressing with hot Jimmy deal sausage and deliciously smelling onions/celery/sage.

Pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream or Milano crushed peppermint cookies with ice cream.

Keto dessert for me. My daughter is making it. Probably chocolate, chocolate chip cookies.

My daughter, my husband and I (her husband is working) are doing our own Turkey Trot tomorrow morning.

Going to make a cream sauce for the green beans since we have cream of mushroom haters. Mini-me’s boyfriend is making knishes.

So, Mom bought me a quality fresh farm turkey that I am going to cook on Friday. I’ve never cooked a really good turkey before, only grocery store stuff.
I think I’m going to cure and smoke the wings and drumsticks like ham for stewing with lentils or split pea soup with over the winter. Did this years ago with a storebought turkey and it worked out great. I’m assuming that they will still be as stringy as the drumsticks are on a store bird, and not worth trying to roast and eat straight on.

The thighs and breasts I’ll sous vide and roast or grill.

I’ve had a few free range turkeys from local turkey farms that have been really good. Night and day from your average grocery store turkey.

You can buy organic free range turkeys at some stores and because they cost so much in comparison to the loss leader frozen bowling ball birds they’re often on sale the day after Thanksgiving

  54. Comment by pajama momma on November 25, 2020 4:16 pm

81,478,600 is the amount of people in the U.S. ages 35-54

  58. Comment by scott on November 25, 2020 4:36 pm

If you threw that party in CT and got busted, you would face a $500 fine, each guest would get a $250 fine, and anyone not wearing a mask would get another $100 added on.

Good news, Pjm, only 6% of those numbers were actually COVID alone. And THAT’s from the CDC too. So if no serious co-morbidities those numbers drop like your mom’s pants during fleet week.

In ATL. Kinda nice not having to drive it. Unfortunately it turns out the NY crew won’t be down for Christmas on the one year I could actually be around longer than a day. Bleh.

CoWs started dating a few months ago. Ended up having to quarantine together. Broke up 4 times. Threatened to kill each other. Came back to work today. They are talking marriage. I’m chatting old lady Catholic, with both of them. They both want what Dan and I have. Trying to keep shit real. Steering them towards Catholicism. They are both baptized cultural Catholics.

My college roommate – who I have known since elementary school – lost her husband to COVID last week.

Today, his step sister died of COVID. Apparently his mother also died of COVID, his brother is not doing well due to COVID, and another sister is recovering from COVID.

Makes me kind of wonder if some families’ genetic makeup makes COVID worse for them compared to other people.

Pepe, thanks for that PA hearing link. In the comments they said PA voters requested 1.8 million ballots. They counted 2.5. No fraud to be seen the AP has called it.

Interesting point, Theresa. At this point I know at least a dozen people who’ve had it and maybe upwards of two dozen. Including my 85 yo mother who was hospitalized for three days and then sent home. One died. He was 83. Don’t know anything about his health at the time but he was a life long pipe smoker. All of the others are at least 58 and have kicked its ass. Most had at least one and usually several comorbidities. And then you have situations like this.

Fuck a bunch of Chinese commies is all I know.

Roamy, I saw you got back to me on your background. I’m a ceramic engineer. Most of my career has been working with zirconia on O2 sensors and fuel cells. I’ve also done work with some other odd material. We were trying to plate Zr metal out of a molten fluoride salt bath on to uranium here a few yeas ago. Worked with a company in your neck of the woods call Plasma processes. They plate iridium onto a carbon mandrel and then plate W or Re or some other refractory metal over the top to make positioning rocket thruster nozzles. All the materials are electroplated out of molten salts and they helped to get the process figured out. Work with a giant Russian dude down there in Huntsville. He’s a good guy.

    good movie, I agree.

  122. Comment by Thermadin on November 25, 2020 10:52 pm

Jay, Technically I could probably do that, but don’t have any experience with it. In collage I worked for Koller in the plant where all their glass enamel is made. It’s on all their tubs and sinks. They have a plant there that does nothing but make toilets. It’s all clay based and it’s really hard to keep a consistent product. That would have been a miserable place to work. It was kept at a very high humidity so the parts would dry slowly after being removed from the molds. I always joke I went to school to make really cool ash trays.

Leaving this comment here for Thermadin – I know Plasma Processes very well – a small business contract and some of their materials on orbit right now. I’m not working with the Russian dude right now but know exactly who you’re talking about.

I’ll be working on zirconium mirrors in the new year, but that’ll be the pure metal, not the oxide. My ceramics work is mostly radiation shielding and thermal control coatings (zinc oxide, zinc orthotitanate, titanium oxide pigments).

Mini-me’s boyfriend is majoring in ceramic engineering. We annoy everyone by talking shop. Which I’m probably doing here, too.
