HHD

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day.
I was listening to a compilation of Elektra Records with a cover of this song.

Bet you didn’t expect that one.
Let’s see who is in today’s folder.

One of the Moronettes kindly posted a fireman’s calendar set.

Mr. RFH and Mini-me had a great krav maga class last night. The instructor told them to show up in street clothes and went through scenarios of being attacked in the parking lot and at the ATM. Mini-me successfully broke a choke hold in the ATM scenario, said it gave her confidence.

The constant rain left my deck wet and slippery (because it’s old and made of wood). I was rushing out of the house on some dog-related issue and took a pretty bad fall last Thursday or Friday. I nothing broken, but there’s some bad bruising in the fascia on the left side of my chest, and I apparently managed to fall asleep in a way that was especially bad for it.

  6. Comment by Car in on May 23, 2018 8:15 am

sleeping has been the most problematic thing for my shoulders.

Why haven’t you replaced that deck, leon? You could have Car in sand it.

Hmm, GOP +6 in a poll. Notwithstanding the skepticism that I view this with, it’s amazing what hope in a good economy will do to your voting chances.

    Don’t fuck it up, GOP

Hahahahaha, yeah, I couldn’t say that with a straight face.

I keep sayin’ we need a better alternative than the GOP…I keep pointing out we should have done it in ’10 instead of trying to work within the GOP and we’d be there already…bah, what am I doing, nobody listens at the HQ, ain’t gonna listen here.

Oh well. It’s been a decent morning so far regardless and that’s what I’m going to focus on.

    1) not married, or their parents weren’t married, and they are “honoring” both.

I’ve never met a cop that didn’t love the bodycams just for the reason you stated. Although, there is plenty of video on YouTube that shows they can expose misconduct and rights violations as well.

When the body cams were being pushed heavily several years ago, a lot of us on the right pointed out that this would happen. Are there bad cops? Sure. Are they the majority, or even a substantial minority? No. All body cams have done is demonstrate that they deal with shitheads every day, who are often willing to lie.

I’m somewhat sympathetic to police unions because of shit like this. How often prior to body cameras did some accusation like this derail an officer’s career? Especially when combined with a weak or ambitious politico willing to sacrifice a few peons?

Uh oh, New 2007 Trump Scandal!

  38. Comment by Car in on May 23, 2018 10:54 am

I watched a bit long bit of the video and I’m curious what the cop was looking for/saw in the sobriety tests. I’m assuming the “tells” are more subtle. He did three of four tests – 1) stare at the light as I move it, 2) walk in a line, and then 3) stand with your foot in the air while counting (I may have missed one).

She did move her head slightly while following the light – more as the test went on. The walks line had some wobbles, but nothing crazy. And the foot in the air – she swayed a bit.

But nothing falling down. I’m just curious. Guessing that what he’s looking for isn’t exactly what you think. More subtle.

  39. Comment by Jay in Ames on May 23, 2018 11:02 am

yes, they are subtle clues. The eyes moving left to right and back will pause when intoxicated, instead of smooth motion. The others have to do with balance. Backwards ABCs are an indicator of impaired thought process.

  40. Comment by terribletroy on May 23, 2018 11:02 am

The reality on the ground (more baseless accusations than not) is what makes ferreting out bad cops difficult. There isn’t a cop out there that within the first year on the job that hasn’t faced bullshit accusations. Its just comes with the job.

As time goes on the fucking press goes ….”and the Officer has faced numerous allegations of misconduct over the years” of course never indicating that they were all unfounded fabrications…..

But I really like the trend of the cams showing these idiots completely lying. There was a preacher or NAACP dude last week that tried the same kinda shit…there is a vid on daily news today of some .gov type in New Mexico trying to get out of a DWI….hell, the recent examples I can think of vs. the number of misconduct incidents I’ve seen is way out of proportion. There was a vid over the weekend of a cop tasering a german shepard. I saw two versions, the full version showing the dog charging the officer twice before he takes action, and then the shortened version showing the cop take action to make it seem as if there was no provocation. A completely good and justified use of force, intentionally mis-characterized and edited to depict the LE in negative manner.

The Leftists are insane. On one hand only police should have guns and they will protect us, on the other hand the Police are brutal oppressors that cant be trusted……

Mostly the tests are done so you get past the 10-15 minute interval required before you can get a more accurate breathalyser reading. Gives alcohol time to absorb and be present in the breath.

My son grads this Friday. We have already had a conversation about expected behavior and responsibilities in return for continued room & board. I shit thee not. Throughout their childhood both kids were told that come 18 they were expected to “do something”. The expectation was set that they could abide by my rules or get their little asses out. Boy was told point blank, you either attend further schooling, join military, work full time, or just get the fuck out of my house. There is no such thing as a free ride in life.

The Lad went and did his paperwork and safety class for his full time job yesterday. The daughter beat feet to her boyfriend / Fiancee / Husband house as soon as she graduated. Daughter worked full time and school full time for four years and earned her degree. We will see what the Lad comes up with.

In the case of the shitbird who’s parents had to evict, I lay part of the blame on the parents. They failed to properly program their child.

This x1000. They coddled him for years “hoping” that he’d get the hint and turn his life around.

I briefly dated a girl who had spent something like 6 years with a loser like this. He had a part time job at B&N, where they met, and he lived with his mom. She finally broke it off weeks before their wedding, when she realized that he wasn’t going to change.

I suspect that a lot of women are in the same boat. They stick around with a guy in the hopes that they’ll wake up one morning to find that he’s magically transformed into husband material. It never happens.

I think the sun and hot work zonked me a bit. I just dug three beds in the hard clay that used to be lawn. Covered them with my homemade compost and also leaf compost from the transfer station. Then hay. I started tripping and doing stupid stuff so I came inside for water and could feel waves of heat coming off me. Felt quite goofy for a while there.

OK, Time to go outside and fill the new paths with chips.

If I don’t come back, just know that your father and I love you very much and we want the best for you.

I’ve tried quite a few podcasts. Other than a couple of knife ones, the Rubin Report is the best. So many of them are trying so desperately to be funny, it’s horrible.

  83. Comment by Teresa in Fort Worth, TX on May 23, 2018 12:56 pm

Laura, have you tried raised beds? Or marking where you want a plot to be, laying down a nice layer of play/builder’s sand, then covering it up with hay/leaves/compost and waiting a season?

I was a lazy gardener, back when I could do that sort of thing, and that was what I would do. Mostly the raised beds, because I am also impatient, but we don’t have to worry as much about frost lines and such down here.

I would also lay thick newspaper or cardboard over the ground, then cover it with good dirt. I don’t like weeding, either….

  107. Comment by leoncaruthers on May 23, 2018 2:15 pm

Have been re-roofing since last Wednesday, that was why I fell in the first place. Dogs went out and I saw that the roofers had left the gate open, so I went out to shut it and promptly crashed on the left side of my chest. It’s stiff like I did unilateral dumbbell bench press until failure without any warmup.

Maybe it’s a tumor? Have you thought of that?
You should get your prostate checked.

  109. Comment by Hotspur on May 23, 2018 2:19 pm

The Yankee Air Force B-17 just flew over. No mistaking the sound of those four Pratt & Whitney Hornet engines.

I hear Obama gives free prostate checks.

Have you never heard Adam Corolla’s Crocs jke?
(Not exactly for mixed company or kids)

I was surprised with how loud the B17 was, when I heard one fly over.

I didn’t realize that crocodiles and alligators are prey for Jaguars. Learned that in the National Geographic. Pretty impressive, watching kitty kill a gator.

    Hotspur, that’s bad ass!

  118. Comment by Hotspur on May 23, 2018 2:58 pm

In addition to other uses, the YAF B-17 always does a flyover of a nearby cemetery on Memorial Day flanked by two AT-6 Texans. It’s pretty loud because they’re only at about 500 ft. altitude.

I assume they were out on shakedown.

  119. Comment by Jay in Ames on May 23, 2018 2:59 pm

Gonna go find Dad’s flag on Memorial day, again. And my uncle’s.

I can’t remember if I told you guys this, but Sunday I stupidly set my phone down on the hood of HotBride’s car while I was doing something in the garage. I forgot about it, and she drove over to our daughter’s house which is about a quarter mile away. When she came back, no phone of course.

We searched and searched along the road but couldn’t find it. So I went online and did Find My iPhone, and it located it about five miles away. I sent a message to the phone with HotBride’s number, and a guy immediately called me back. He found it on the road, run over by a car. He was on his bike.

I got the phone back, and the screen protector was shot, and the case had some scuffs on it, but otherwise there isn’t a single mark on the phone.

    Amazing.

BroCavil, I thought the Tea Party was going to be our replacement for the GOP, but we got Lois Lerner and other shenanigans at the IRS (what is the content of your prayers), dumbasses pestering people for money then not doing anything coherent with it (looking at you, Moving America Forward and Tea Party Express), dumbasses running for office who didn’t know how to handle the media (don’t answer any gotcha questions about rape), and people who were turned to the dark side with sweet, sweet pork.

  136. Comment by Brother Cavil on May 23, 2018 9:08 pm

When the Tea Party said it wasn’t going to be its own party, it was pretty clear it would go nowhere. When the professionals latched on, it was doomed.

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/05/22/judge-suspect-in-officers-death-one-man-crime-wave.html

Matthews and Ward acknowledged committing the burglary, probable cause statements allege. Genius at first declined to give a statement but later objected to being charged with murder, saying he was in the house when the killing occurred, another statement said.

Attempts to reach people believed to be relatives of Ward, Matthews and Genius were not successful Wednesday. Reporters made calls and knocked on doors of several homes in Baltimore listed in court documents, but there was no response.

Harris, a ninth-grader, had fled house arrest a week before the incident and was still wearing a court-ordered ankle bracelet when he ran down Caprio, authorities said.

Sam Abed, the Maryland Secretary of Juvenile Services, said at a news conference that his department had made “many attempts” to contact Harris after he went missing from his mother’s house but was unsuccessful.

Have not had this brand of senseless, slight-agita, 4 am insomnia in quite some time. Just realized that. Huh. Used to be almost a daily occurrence.

So apparently I had to have a bad night’s sleep just to realize how good it’s been going. That’s definitely something to be grateful about!
