Good morning, and welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day. Furlough got you down? Let’s see if I can make it better.
For you Breaking Bad fans out there
I found all these famous people, then I forgot which show they’ve been in. Chris Pratt had some near redhead moments.
Joshua Jackson.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (say that three times fast)
The return of Chris Hemsworth
And last but not least, *pounce*.
I’ll be your good morning girl. Thank you for your attention, and y’all have a good day.

I think I’m a low, because I don’t do the girly stuff. Dan says I’m high, because of the expense of the travel, books, and sports gear. THX for HHD, Romacita!
Morning, children.
Coffee, tea, or me? GMG
Low = lie
High = high
That’s better.
High maintenance wakey wakey
Somebody get me some coffee
Penelope is very low maintenance.
We’re number one! We’re number one!

I am low maintenance, though. The only thing I “expect” Pat to do is change the oil in my car, although I’ll do that too. I just kinda want him to get that done.
High maintenance takes hours to get ready, and have their nails done every week (so they can’t do anything that may damage ’em). They don’t carry in groceries, or cook very often.
MJ, don’t forget your book when you move.
I have a signed first edition but the pages are stuck together.
Maintenance is over rated.
Mrs. Caruthers is low maintenance. Her brood of animals is not.
So how interested do you expect your husbands to be in things like what shoes you choose to wear, or what you wear to work?
Do you need constant attention?
I don’t care about those things. I don’t expect him to.
Do you order off the menu?
*winks at CaRiN*
Meh, I’ll call my sister later today to figure this out.
/psyche blog
I have food allergies. I usually check the menu online so I know what I can have before I get there. Or I just stick with basic fare.
No, I don’t expect him to care about what I wear. And I don’t need constant attention.
He’ll compliment me, and that’s enough. if he doesn’t say anything, I may worry and ask, because he usually does. I don’t need it though. We’ve been together for 24 years, though, so it’s hard to imagine him acting different.
He would tell you that I’m VERY low maintenance. He’s higher than me. I need to call him, etc. He’s more needy than me.
One of my co-workers has a high maintenance wife. Weekly mani/pedis, weekly hairstyling (I get mine cut every two or three months, my mom cut her own hair), doesn’t cook, doesn’t do laundry, doesn’t pay bills.
I wear a polo or t-shirt and jeans to work. There’s no discussion of what I’m wearing because most of the time, he’s on the road before I get dressed.
I’ve been wearing the same pair of sandals for 5 weeks because of my stupid toe. I thought the nail would have fallen off by now.
*contemplates calling car in.
My ex SiL used to “dress my brother”. Reason she’s an ex. She was real controlling over her kids and what they wore, how they looked, what they ate.
DON’T CALL.
I actually don’t even know where I left my phone. battery is probably dead.
*mulls calling car in some more.
As for attention, I like to recap my day and get a recap of his, but after 25 years, I recognize the signs for when he wants to read the paper in silence and I STFU.
Mrs. Pupster is low maintenance, but I let her think I think she’s high maintenance.
My life is pretty awesome, really.
I am very high maintenance and demand attention all the time.
So get busy.
MJ, why don’t you call me right now? I’ve got a bit of free time, and at this exact moment I really feel like taking a phone call.
*the kids have been looking for my phone for ten minutes and cannot find it anywhere. The battery is surely dead.
Car in: check your chickenmail.
I am also high maintenance. I get a mani/pedi every week and match my purse and shoes.
I worked with a guy who got a phone call from his wife every day at 8 AM. She was checking to make sure he stop anywhere on his way in, or have a 5 minute affair somewhere.
He had kids with her too, freaking idiot.
I’m high maintenance. I try really hard to make sure I don’t wear green shirts with green pants.

I didn’t hate 0bama until he explained very carefully how much he hated me. It’s really self-defense hate.
They’re not covering it, because even they know it makes Obama look like a petty, vindictive, and the most MEAN SPIRITED politically motivated president in living memory.
He expected the vets to quietly go back to their buses, after a photo of them not being able to visit something that had been planned for over a year.
He chose poorly. Many people have said this. These guys didn’t back down from Hitler or Hirohito. That is not a Godwin, it’s a fact.

Really, though, this story is objectively terrible for the White House, right? http://t.co/cXKNVlYASz
Exactly right, J’ames, because they live in a fricken BUBBLE. The thought that people actually stand for something; believe in what they fought for; have honor and integrity …
All that is lost on TFG and everyone around him.
Most mean spirited, politically motivated president ever.
I think it comes down to one word. Either Republican or Obama.
If it’s a Republican shutdown as everyone seems to report it as, then the news stories will be on tonight showing vets being arrested because of Republicans.
They just needed a day to spin it right. It’ll be on, just not as Obama’s fault.
Oh, and people are far too dumb to think that these barriers were put there on purpose, by the administration.
They only know, ‘sad old guy, bad Republican.’
Wow.
WWII veterans in wheelchairs threatened with arrest and ‘this is really bad for the White House’ is the response?
The next series of Honor Flights should include the children and grandchildren. It’s a pretty short walk across the mall, if you know what I mean.
Michelle Bachmann indicated that she will be at the WW2 memorial today. I’m sure Steve King will be, too, as he was yesterday. Idiot libs on Facebook noted his presence, even though the news story this morning said he was “reportedly” there.
If it was their butt buddy Harkin they would have been all over it. And Harkin is a vet!
Too bad this didn’t happen during the Million Biker March on 9/11.
Those would be some bad optics for the White House too.
Heh, they tried that too, didn’t they?

This whole WH OMB ordering the park service to shut down memorials, particularly the WWII Memorial with Honor Flight veterans there is about the stupidest, pettiest thing I’ve seen Obama do (in a very long line of stupid, petty things). When you’ve decided to politicize the WWII memorial, you pretty much don’t have any concept of history. I read recently that the WH has no understanding of anything that happened prior to the 1980s.
Peggy Noonan I think.
Time for lunch. I’ll be quiet now!
*begin depressive rant
I don’t know what the nation is any longer, hence the reason I simply call it The Nation Below Canada. The only people able to seriously defy Leviathan are aging, noble WWII vets. And that defiance consists of crossing lame barrycades. What else can be done? For decades now Leviathan has made itself an inextricable part of existence. The government has so many tendrils gripping every facet of life, from your light bulb choices to the disposition of the company generating its power to the taxes funding its “green” competitors to the pensions and medical insurance of the people working for these and every other company to the financial system that handles trading and banking for any and every business to the thousands of pages of regulations forced upon them by an unelected and unaccountable bureaucratic monster with a million tentacles…
It’s good to see the vets spit in the face of American fascism, even if it is only crossing a line. However in a week all will return to normal, normal being our ongoing conversion into a jumbo-sized version of France, without the good food and historic architecture.
*end depressive rant

Some are idiots, some are uninformed. Both lead to the same place.
I offer you the 2012 election. The idiots and uninformed outnumber the adults.
Picking on 90 year old veterans is about as tone-deaf as one can be. It’s stunningly stupid.
I’ma swipe this from DrewM – he said it this way MJ:
Liberals at the highest level (in government, business, arts, etc) really are out of touch with the basics of America.
People within the Obama administration actually thought Americans would care more about restoring government workers to their jobs than WWII vets.
They don’t respect veterans in the visceral way many Americans do so it never occurred to them anyone else does.
They aren’t simply anti-American (though often they are) they are simply post-American.
Imagine for a moment a Republican President ordered this (even in my wildest moments I can’t imagine a GOP POTUS doing it but play along) do you think conservatives would sit around and passively let it happen or even affirmatively defend it? It’s inconceivable. Yet many liberals did just that today.
Post-American is spot on.
Because webpages need constant supervision to keep ‘em going.
Reminds me of the mysterious inability of The Gilded Sasquatch to keep tweeting during this shutdown. Because a twitter account is like NASA, requiring a massive staff and infrastructure.
People within the Obama administration actually thought Americans would care more about restoring government workers to their jobs than WWII vets.
2012 says the Obastard regime is correct.
2012 was not a referendum on civil service George. That does not follow.
Gilded Sasquatch doesn’t type.
Gilded Sasquatch tells non-essentials what to type.
Of course not, Dave. What I mean is that 2012 suggests a very different electorate than one that would, among many things, take true offense to the disrespect Obama shows veterans.
In fact, I’m surprised that Obastard hasn’t taken more of the law into his own hands than he already has. He pays no price for lawlessness, and the press will never defy him. He could get away with a lot more than he does. Perhaps it is his natural lassitude and distaste for actually doing a job that restrains him.
Gilded Sasquatch doesn’t type.
I guess the shutdown prevents the White House from buying a Fisher-Price keyboard.
90 Million Americans are not working.
But 800,000 Federal employees not working is going to affect the economy and growth, even if it’s only a few days. LOL
I heard that on NPR yesterday. It’s going to slow our economic growth.
Got it.
I’m waiting for someone to do “Shutdown 2013: The Musical”, featuring the Barrycades as the show-stopping centerpiece.
“Do You Hear The People Sing?” done by WWII Vets in their wheelchairs should bring audiences to their feet, dontcha think?
90 Million Americans are not working.
But 800,000 Federal employees not working is going to affect the economy and growth, even if it’s only a few days
They are the most important people in the world. Our 90 million unemployed subjects have no chance without them. How can you be so heartless as to LOL? H8R.
I saw The Barrycades open for Eduard Khil in Moscow in 1987.
Last night’s local TV news was nauseating in its fawning coverage of Clownifornia’s exchange, “CoveredCalifornia.” It was nothing short of a free commercial for Obamacare. They even had their own phone bank in a room plastered with the TV station logo, and a number onscreen, so you could dial up and get started. IOW, the station itself decided to volunteer to recruit for socialized medicine, disguised as “news.”
I heard that on NPR yesterday. It’s going to slow our economic growth.
—————————–
You mean that sizzling, under 2% growth coming out of the great recession?
Um, that’s basically inflation. There is no growth.
They said it could slow to 1.5%. I’m guessing they suspect it’s slowing, and now want something to blame.
I’ve put on about 8 good pounds and 2 bad ones, so there’s been some growth.

Fat people are easier to loot. Just sayin’.
I need to find a part-time Obamajob at a well&septic outfit so I can learn the bidness.
I’m gonna need an Obamajob if this week doesn’t pick up.
Just now, FNC: Congressman (I missed his name), “We now have more guards on the open-air memorials than we did at the time of Benghazi.”
The White House is turning to local politicians and celebrities Wednesday to promote the second day that uninsured Americans can purchase coverage on the ObamaCare exchanges, following a launch that featured intense interest — and serious technical glitches…
Celebrities including singer John Legend, rock band Pearl Jam, and actresses Alyssa Milano and Kerry Washington were among the entertainers that had already used the hashtag to promote the exchanges.

So far today, then, the Senate and President have taken on veterans and kids with cancer. Next up: kittens.
Awful news, roamy. So sorry!
Greetings, people who were Hostages before the teabagging anarchists got in on the act.
Oh honey, I’m so sorry/
That’s terrible, roamy. Condolences.
We could do another meetup !!!! I’ll make creme brulee.
Maybe Mare will show up?
——————
Yeah, that could work. I’ll have to rent a bike.
Sorry about your cousin, Romie.
Yeah, that’s horrible. Sorry RFH.
I’m sure one of Car in’s girls has a bike you could use, MJ. Might even have a basket and a bell!
Don’t pass up the creme brulee, it’s great!
That’s awful. Sorry rocket lady.
This is an actual headline at Kos:
While Republicans condemn monument closings, millions of less visible Americans are put in danger.
Dave via Drew was correct. They really think that foodstamps are more important than WWII vets.
I’m sorry about your cousin Roamy. 😦
OMG this is comedy gold:
“Why does this seem pre-planned weeks ahead…..
Older white rural are the bagger stronghold. So these monument visitors seem to possibly to fit the profile.
The drop dead clock on a shutdown Oct 1 has been brewing for weeks. Who goes ahead anyway and schleps all the way to Washington DC given the risk.”
MOAR:
“What bothers me the most about this thing is that if a group of people who were supposed to be visiting the MLK monument had done the same thing, you know that the news coverage of that would have been significantly different.
Why should a bunch of old white guys be excused for not observing the barriers placed due to the shutdown? Yeah, I know, the greatest generation, blah, blah, blah. The fact is that they received special treatment and were allowed to do something that they shouldn’t have done. Was it a shame that they had traveled to see it? Sure. But what about the many people who traveled to see other monuments or National Parks, or the National Zoo, or the Smithsonian?
For some reason, this is really bugging me. Almost as much as the fact that those TGOP a**holes were jumping up and down and clapping in their excitement of closing down the government.”
Obviously they have no idea how an Honor Flight is planned and executed.
Dad has to go down the night before, and stay in the approved hotel. He’s got the whole day planned out.
And it’s a month away.
Prayers for your family, Roamy.
J’ames, have you pressured your dad to start recording an oral history of his time in the service? Do so.
I’ve done that, and I’m the one that is going to have to get him started on it.
We did that one night for about 4 hours. It was fascinating.
It’s nice to see that they’re not just spitting on Vietnam veterans anymore, I guess.
I’m stealing that, Sean.
Earlier today I discharged an 18 year old to long term follow up. I’ve followed her since she was 5 years old for a long term condition. She is a sweet kid who will do well and wants to go into nursing. Pictures were taken with her old doctor and hugs were exchanged.

Yeah, why would we want to do that?
Sorry, Roamie.
Guess what I got in the mail today. Nope, not a hamster, info from our insurance company. After going forever without health insurance, we got it a couple of years ago. Only catastrophic, deductible is $10,000, premium was under $300/month. Now, under Obamacare, catastrophic is no longer available. The lowest premium available is $725/month. I get to come up with an additional $5,400 a year, or go without. Fuck you very much, Obama.
…and your probably still responsible for 30% of your health care costs.
Sorry Pepe.
That was what we had too, Pepe.
The Affordable Care act is only affordable if you have an Obamaphone.
Mare and MCPO are both missing.
* starts rumors *
WE had insurance until about 18 years ago. NM changed the regs, and our premiums went from $200 a month to $350 over a 6 month period. We couldn’t afford that so we dropped it. We’d periodically check, but the lowest deductible was $2,000, and the rates went up to $600+. Eventually, they allowed the high deductible and the premiums came down. But now, premiums go back up and I’m screwed.
Catastrophic coverage with a $10,000 deductible plus a pre-tax health savings account would be ideal for many otherwise healthy people. When the government starts insisting that more things be covered by catastrophic plan (that are not catastrophic) prices go up. They’ve gone and screwed up the best choice for many people.
It’s a total scam. Oversold and under delivered is the kiss of death.
I think tonight might be a cocktails-before-dinner night.
I think today is a “drink my lunch” day.
Neat moment of the day: I can almost read this.

hola, amigos y amigas!
Leon, me too. Gave me a headache though.
MCPO is babysitting DG. Posting pics on FB.
What is Spanish for “funemployment?”
I figure if my next career is anywhere near construction (or if I flee to Belize) there may be no need for such a word.
And to add to the fire about “health” insurance, we have the issue of dental insurance. Which is the exact opposite of what insurance should be. It covers all preventative costs, and then has an unreasonably low yearly maximum of coverage – in the $1000 range for most. This won’t come close to covering a “catastrophe”. My dentist/periodontist have decided I need most of my teeth extracted (bordering on xbrad territory here). I have the dental plan with the highest yearly maximum coverage offered, and it won’t cover 25% of just the periodontist work, let alone the temporary dentures or the yet-to-be-decided long term solution. This would be like your auto insurance covering tires and oil changes, but only covering $5k if your new car was stolen. WTF?!?

“The people in the Parks Service have a lot more common sense than the tea party,” McCaskill said.
In the best of hands, we are.
McCaskill is a scrunt. She was pissed that she had to show up because MO Honor Flight was there. DIAF.

* calls emergency kitten *
Chelsea Clinton, the only daughter of former President Bill and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, said in an August interview she would be open to running for pubic office, The Washington Post reported…
“I loved the meritocracy of it and the camaraderie of the trading floor,” she said. “There was one metric for success: Did you make or lose money? I think we need to care about the metrics of success in life, and I’m a pretty competitive person. But whether I made the company $2 or $2 million just didn’t matter to me. I didn’t fundamentally care about making money.”
Spoken like a true member of the privileged 1%. Of course you fundamentally did not care about making money. You’re destined to be as rich as Croesus, filthy with your daddy’s wallet.
Dear Chelsea – at the age of 33 – has decided that next year is going to be the year that she has a baby.
She actually thinks that’s how it works.
Looking at pictures of her, it appears that the bloom’s been off of that rose for a number of years now….
Whew…that was close. Thanks EMT kitteh!
As I recall, she was a homely girl.
Not all ugly ducklings become swans.
I didn’t fundamentally care about making money.
Translation: I fundamentally didn’t care about performing my fiduciary duties, some of which when violated precipitate penalties and felonies under SEC rules. Fuck you little people anyway, you just want to hear I’m above crass money-grubbing so you will vote for me, even though I’ll make hundreds of thousands per year if all I do is rub my canoe driver. Daddy, you know. Connections. Lucky for you I don’t seem to be as into rape as my dad. Not physical rape, anyhow.
George is especially hatey today.
George is especially hatey today.
Trying to pay for a house when Obamanomics is fucking with your income would make a nun hatey.
I have a fear that all my 16 yr old appliances will shit the bed this year. Already got roped into a car payment.
Hey GO, I can only watch the fountain of bile video so many times…
What do you do?
Dear Chelsea – at the age of 33 – has decided that next year is going to be the year that she has a baby.
She actually thinks that’s how it works.
Liberal cousin of Mr. RFH’s did the same at 38. “Man makes plans, and God laughs.”
and thank you, everyone. I’m still numb from the news.
Crap! Mare, MCPO and GO are the same MJ!

She will pay cash for it.

Pretty much describes my week.
Hey GO, I can only watch the fountain of bile video so many times…
I could poat a video of new drip lines irrigating but it might be too risqué.
I may have mentioned this here before, I really H8 women that make their spouses shop with them on game day. College or NFL. The men are really nasty, and you can tell they don’t want to be there, but instead of manning up with their sig other, they take it out on poor retail workers.
Did anything important happen in the last two hours? I had some moonshine and forgot how much life sucked for a little while.
ios 7 officially sucks. It is killing my battery life.
I’ve held off on ios 7. Not hearing good things about it.
Real moonshine Leon? Like homemade corn liquor?
Nice to see the gentleman farmer gig is working out for you.
Well this was a hump day for the record books.
Our veteran heroes stormed Normandy, Tarawa, Sicily, Guadalcanal and dozens of other places.
Then they had to storm their own pissy government trying to keep them from the privately funded memorial that was erected in their honor, in these last twilight years of their lives.
I’m as proud of em today as I ever was.
DiT, local Honor Flight guy on the news was asked if he “blamed Congress for the ‘Shutdown'”. He said “Obama too”. Can’t find the video. He was due to go today.
As noted elsewhere, it’s not a shutdown, it’s a lockout.
Did anybody forget to pick anybody else up after football practice today?
Sean, my Dad forgot me at school a few times. I took a ride home on a motorcycle with a guy and my Dad never let me forget it. Dan would link the Bart waiting for Homer sequence for me. *Drinks*
Oops, it wasn’t football practice. Junior Classical League Historiographers meeting TYVM.
TRAB PU KCIP
Real moonshine Leon? Like homemade corn liquor?
No, commercial corn whiskey I bought in Frankenmuth.
Hahaha Sean! Dan calls me Bort. I still can’t believe my name has fallen out at truck stops and theme parks.
Hey, lovable tools!
I’ve been peeking in in between caring for my sweet mom and then working like a longshoreman (non union) helping a friend stage her home for selling.
I see those running our government have come out of the “we will do whatever it takes and work against anyone we serve to make political points.” closet.
I guess the media doesn’t love this country either. I lovingly send them this message: Tell the truth about what’s going on or STFU and GTFO.
*Why do we have 800,000 non essential employees on the payroll?
Is your mom ok mare?
I don’t want the girl with the skinny legs.
*Doesn’t non-essential mean they are not essential?
*800,000??????????????????????????
Yes, thanks for asking Dave.
I’m giving her caregiver a break, I go about every six weeks. She’s doing well, about a 15 min memory loop but she’s still a laughing, fun person.
Almost 96 percent of the WWII combat vets were poor whites, like my parents
Can’t have that in this Obamanation shithole
OMG. I H8 local news. I’m screaming at my TV right now.
Rays.
For Roamie
Starting to see people that comped 0Care getting threats from the gov when they chose not to adopt. Scary times.
L to R::Obama/America
AUGH!!! Last night Honor Flight story was about “OMG Shutdown” and local reporter asked Vet if he was mad at congress. Old guy said “Obama” too. Video unavailable. Tonights story is with his son in Cali and “OMG…Republican shutdown!!!!”
I miss Rosetta, although I see the douche showed up around here recently:

Denying Dan your pillows?

WELCOME, CAR IN!
You want soupersalad?
soup sounds good. What kind do you have?
Cheesypotatoclamchowderseafoodchowderandfrenchonion.
What was the third one again?
Can I get the French Onion, hold the French?
Some German asshole who comes in all the time ordered O-soup then insisted he said no cheese. If he’d said it, that’s how I would have bought it. I hate waiting on him.
NEIN! KEINE CHEESE!
FO for the win!
Roamy,
So sorry about your cousin…
Know what it’s like to sigh at the sight of the first quarter of life?
Ever stopped to derp and found out nothing was there?

Good morning all!
Good morning. Ellen the dog is being put to rest today in the afternoon. Of course she actually slept all last night and managed to poop outdoors this morning (on the deck, but outside). Going to be a very, very tough later part of the day.
Tough day Leon. You’ve deliberated this carefully but it doesn’t take the sting out of it. Sorry friend.
Thanks, Jimbro. I will be holding a crying wife for many hours.
Don’t cope a feel, Leon. That’s bad form.
Sorry about Ellen the dog. We’ve all been there.
I’m sorry you have to go through this Leon, you are a good man, you have to be strong.
Prayers for comfort for Mrs. Leon, and swift and sweet passage for Ellen.
I will not cop a feel, Car in. Only because you reminded me not to, but I won’t.

Is WordPress being weird or is everyone still asleep?
Yes.
Morning, children. Sorry about your pup, Leon. Tough day, but it will get better.
Feel better, Leon GMG:
Late night of working out. I didn’t get out of bed until 7:45. Gah!
New poat!
