  17. Mare – I like puzzles too. Although I usually don’t mind re-doing them a year or so later.

Right now I’m into Soduku. Love it. I’ve been working on the same one for three days now.

  18. I prefer Keno.

*snaps fingers at CARin and waves some tickets*

  19. I really enjoy the puzzle deal. I can see redoing them. Although Oso’s idea of giving them to the VA is excellent.

  20. I enjoyed sitting with my Dad, having a drink and playing Keno. I liked hearing about his keno theories and laughing when we won…or lost.

That was in Reno I think.

  21. I did sudoku for a little while, but I’d eventually start sketching out a program to solve it for me in the back of my mind.

Then I’d start sketching out a program to generate all legal sudoku boards so I could amass a database of them and just brute-force search them rather than solve any particular one.

  22. What I’m saying is that I couldn’t let myself have fun with it. Not a humblebrag or anything, I just couldn’t see it as anything but a problem to be solved.

Long story short and I completely agree.

The egos of women writing and producing are so fragile and so insecure the women have to be the best at everything even those things they’ve never done before.

Since the women never go through the learning/failing/introspection phase of character development, no one cares about them. There is no relatability.

The whole “The Force Is Female” garbage ruined it.

  33. Season 2 of Jack Ryan is a total dick around.

He porks some chick the first night he meets her. Then she bugs his room. Nice awareness there, assface.

He gets jumped in his bathroom with water overflowing in the tub. Did he not think someone else might be lurking in the room?

Then this black douchebag who is supposed to be driving the getaway boat, who is told to be vigilant for their return from a mission, leaves his post and gets left behind. Instead of saying, “Oh well. He was a fucking retard, we’ll just abandon his ass.” They go back for him and start getting killed. The only reason to go back for a cockface like that is to shoot him yourself.

There are other equally shitty plot lines, but I’ll let you find them for yourself. Only Hollywood could fuck up Jack Ryan. I mean, they cast Dylan O’Brian as Mitch Rapp FFS.

  38. Sooo. Houseguest occasionally has ideas about using some of the produce in the garden for this or for that. Today she asked about using the swiss chard, plus one of the frozen containers of concentrated zucchini that I use for thickening soups in Winter.

I’m trying to be hospitable, but the question I have in my mind is, “Exactly how much of my output do you feel entitled to?”

Why can’t she just go buy some fucking zucchini and reduce it herself? I know it seems easy and free because it’s sitting right there, but this took my time to produce. Not to mention growing all this food in the first place. Fuck the what, Over??

  39. Strong Wahhmen don’t need no hero’s journey, they start as heroes fully formed. Athena (aka Zeus’s headache) did exactly this.

But the only time she’s interesting is as a secondary character in the journey of Odysseus. No one writes whole plays about Athena. Bo-ring.

  40. i don’t know nothing about this new Terminator Movie. I assume Sarah Conner is now the hero? I mean, she always was sort of a hero, but now she’s the ultimate bad ass?

  41. Leon, that is probably why the movies with female heros *are* so boring. They’re perfect from the start, and the only “journey” is everyone else making that realizing – finally.

I just saved you all $10.

  48. Why must every book about alchemy start with the same tired lies about Christianity causing the fall of Rome, the death of science in the west until Islamic invaders brought it back, and the destruction of the library in Alexandria?

  49. Maybe it will become “true” if they say it enough, Leon. That’s how truth works, right?

OSU is on a bye this week, lazy lazy saturday here. It is warm and sunny enough to work on my tan, I think I will while I can.

  50. Real Alchemy by Robert Allen Bartlett. He’s a trained legit chemist who’s also into woowoo stuff, so the actual lab instructions are well written and have good warnings like “this is caustic lye, don’t touch it and wash carefully afterwards, DO NOT touch your eyes” but then he’ll shift context straight back into “this will yield the Salt of the herb, while the liquid will be both the Sulfur and the Mercury of that same herb”.

  56. And yes, Pupster, they are trying to meme-magic the death of Christendom while also making it into the villain of western history.

The easy rule is that any time you see BCE and CE, you’re dealing with some degree of bullshittery.

  57. After all the nuclear force is the weakest.

    The f*ck!?!

Gravity is the weakest force by far. At the nuclear scale, the strong force kicks all the other forces’ asses. Hence nuclei don’t fly apart due to charge repulsion.

  58. Geoff is right. Force strength is all relative and range matters. EM and gravity dominate the realm of classical mechanics, but at the atomic scale you can almost ignore them.

  59. That said, if you could sort out an efficient way to make lead nuclei shed a couple of alpha particles, you’re literally better than golden.

    Platinum, baby.

  60. Great, now I’m thinking how you’d update philosophical alchemy for the modern era.

The four basic elements correspond to the four fundamental forces: earth = gravity, fire = electromagnetism, air = weak, water = strong…

  61. I originally picked up the book as research material for a novel. I wasn’t planning on setting in the atomic era, but it wouldn’t change the story too dramatically.

  62. I considered picking up a book on demonology for the same reason a while back: had an idea for a story.

  63. Reading powwow grimoires was a fascinating look at 18th century American history through an occult-but-nominally Christian lens.

  65. It seems like human religious belief alternates between paganism, gnosticism, and christianity or the like. Either an external, ritual-based religion tied closely to the world around you, an internal, philosophical religious experience that discards the natural world in favors of the internal world, and something different where the spiritual and natural worlds are separate but equal.

  66. So, one song then?

Makes sense. I mean, they are getting up there in age and would want to get to the early bird special at Denny’s before the Matlock reruns start.

  67. Catholicism would be that last you mentioned, where the Divine interacts with us through matter, whether it be the sacraments and sacramentals or a priest acting in persona Christi.

You see a lot of that in powwow, actually. Yeah, the grimoire says to cut the eye out of fresh-dead wolf for protection, but there’s a perfectly reasonable (and Christian!) prayer that must be said with it. Given that most of these guys were ostensibly Lutheran, it’s interesting to see them trying to build up this oddball set of rituals and charms that you so often see them accusing Catholics of having.

It goes back to my theory about western history being a long-running conflict between paganism and Christianity. The religious nature of humanity means that whenever one side weakens, the other resurges, and that each fills in the gaps of the other.

  70. This is the only place where the “cafeteria” metaphor really obtains for Catholicism. Scapulars don’t appeal to me, holy water does, I have to stop myself from rolling my eyes at some “miracles”, but someone else out there might have kicked heroin because of them. God knows how varied He’s made us, and made a Church big enough for mystics who couldn’t grapple with modalism if it were explained to them slowly, philosophers like Aquinas and Augustine, and coal miners who have enough to do just feeding their kids.

Back in the day, there was massive flooding. The Hindus and the Muslims had both attempted to stop the flooding. Locals approached a priest at the Seminary. He went with the locals to the river. Dunked his Scapular in the river and it stopped rising. Multiple converts. After years of exile, Catholics are back in Goa. Getting multiple priests from there. $20. Our priest is from Nigeria.

  136. Friend does this group thing, with old friends, on their phone. They generally engage in everyday life stuff…kids, jobs, travel, etc. One gal likes Trump and will laugh at good or bad memes of him when/if posted. She’ll mention him from time to time but there are zero political or ideological discussions.
The other day, she mentioned in passing that she didn’t like the disrespect shown him at the game and what the swamp was doing and went on to something else.
Someone else, a fairly ‘liberal’ someone, said Schiff was a weasel.
That set someone else’s hair on fire who responded that they “didn’t agree with conservative news on said forum and hardcore biases is no way to self develop”. WTF? It appears he was upset that one of our most distinguished, honorable, men among men, superior to most man of congress, was called a name.

  137. *no, I am not a member of said forum*

  138. Today’s high should be 58. I hope I can get some yard work done but I’m still feeling sluggish from the cold which is mostly over. Going to the rental yesterday to put in some shelves and to the hardware store after, kicked my butt.

  139. Smart TV = in-house spy.

I jumped on two way-too-big “dumb” TVs on clearance at Best Buy.

  140. The mirror in our front bathroom separated from the wall at the top corners last night. I managed to get it back into place (bottom pegs were still present but bent) but one corner refuses to re-adhere. I need some clear silicone, but that means getting Possum to go to the hardware store.

  141. After I got out of the Army, I stayed with my dad and stepmom for about four months while I looked for work. When I apologized for being there for so long dad just laughed and said, “No need. We knew you were looking for work, so it was all good. Remember, your sister lived with us for years while she dithered in college.”

  142. Speaking of which, as a wedding gift, his parents bought them a 65 inch smart teevee. It’s HYUGE for that small house. He’s pure giddy over it. She had a decent size tv and would have preferred something more practical.

It’ll be perfect for all those late-night and weekend-long gaming sessions.

  143. Nobody actually believes Stormy’s denial, beasn. She was paid 130K before the election then, for what? She only recanted because she was about to get legally hammered flat for breaking the terms of that payoff.

Then there was this other MacDogal woman he supposedly shtupped too. A former Playmate, I think? Whatever. An epidemic of gold-digging whores, as that comedian says. I didn’t vote for him in ignorance of his wandering willy. We’re all kind of past that phase of political naivete, I think.

  144. So apparently if you watch one cute otter video, the next time you visit youtube, it will display a long list of otter videos. Because watching one otter video indicates a thirsty lust for endless otter content.

He changed his work schedule to M-F so he can be with her on evenings and weekends. Pretty sure she’ll say something if he spends too much time gaming.

  147. I have an alternate theory. Trump is an incredibly loyal friend. When Kraft’s wife died he called him every day for a year to see how he was doing. I wouldn’t doubt Trump took the fall for the porn deal on Kraft’s behalf. The porn gal admitted she and Trump never had sex.

  148. “Even if she doesn’t love him,”

    ——–
What evidence do you have for that statement?

  149. The porn deal was one of the many plays the democrats were trying to use to force Trump out. Now they are on scheme #178. If I believed anything I heard in the press I’d be as mental as the dems. I’m not THAT mental.

  150. It was a hypothetical, Mare. Note the “if”. It is silly to get all prickly on their behalf. He is no angel and neither is she.

  155. My mom would piss and moan about Bushies l and ll, schtupping bimbos. When Clinton was getting blown by a gal younger than his daughter, she was like, “They all do it, beasn”. Um, they ‘all’ do not sexually assault women, but okay, then be consistent with your pissing and moaning.

But yeah, I agree. I care more about if they are doing what they said they’d do. Trump comes the closest in that perception. The nose twisting of the media is a bonus. Pretty sure Melania knew what she was getting into….though the media’s treatment of her is awful.

  156. I vote for paying down the debt.

  157. I’m not “all prickly” I was asking if you knew of some expose’ wherein Melania poured her heart out.

She seems rather devoted to him. Although I have not seen evidence to the contrary, it may exist.

  158. .though the media’s treatment of her is awful.

My favorite part? How the fashion magazines refuse to use her on the cover and fawn over her clothing, style and arms like they did with the fat assed, buck-toothed Michelle. My God, it is to laugh.

True that. That’s why I tend to believe both when they say it didn’t happen. He could afford a ‘professional’ who could keep her mouth shut because business. Loose lips gonna lose your high-end customers.

  161. There is a black dude I ‘follow’ on faceass. He refers to Mooch as ‘Michael’. He did not care for her bad attitude’d self going after whitey again…especially when blacks are fleeing inner cities, too….like Mooch did.

  162. Michelle had so many fashion “don’ts” that it’s insane. And that with an army of “stylists” to help her not look like a clown.

Same with Hillary, she’s always wearing those boxy coats that look like Mao cast offs.

Oh, man, it’s sad when your official portrait doesn’t look anything like you and that’s a good thing.

  163. Imagine the gall (or stupidity) of Michelle talking about white flight which every single middle-class black has also done if they want safe neighborhoods and good schools. AND she had the balls to say it after the news of them purchasing in Martha’s Vineyard (where it’s about 98% white). I saw on twitter where they have homes in swanky areas of CA and somewhere else too.

She never really knows what she’s talking about. She just goes off on minority talking points and divides everyone again.

  164. Bill Whittle’s Right Angle on the Offical White House Portraits was hilarious.

  165. Not sure they have a place in CA. Their house in DC, like the Vineyard, is in a 97% white area. Think their other property is out in Hawaii.

  166. Question is, did they sell their place in Chicago?

  167. That is not a flattering portrait or a visually pleasing one. WTH was she thinking?

  168. The Obamas have always been desperate to be part of the “cool” crowd. Hence the weird fashions, the parties, and the avante-gard artists for their portraits.

  169. No, they have a place in CA. It’s in Rancho Mirage. This is from 2016 but I had heard this a few times.
    https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/politics/news/a8713/obamas-california-house/

  170. Wow, check out the “man hands” in that official portrait.

  171. Fun fact, Ranch Mirage is not in the ghetto.

  172. Michael 0bama has race envy. He desperately wants to be white.

    And a woman.

  173. So you’re saying he’s going to move to some ranch and buy a chimpanzee?

  174. Weird Pepe, in Obama’s portrait the “artist” did something bizarre with his hands too. Obama’s portrait is an abomination. Michelle’s looks like a portrait of a dress with a woman inside.

  175. You’re right mare, a quick search shows a vacation home in CA and HI. They still have the Chicago place.

  176. Both portraits were more about the “artist” and the painting itself rather than the subject.

  177. So the guy telling us to check our tire pressure has at least 5 homes?

  178. Yes, the same guy who said we can’t just keep our thermostat at 72 anymore.

  179. Question, is Brian Stelter dumb or insane?

Is this one of those “embrace the power of and” deals?

  180. How quickly do you think they’ll blow through the 70M Netflix deal?

  181. My reagan ranch calendar appeared in my mailbox a few months back. I’m set.

  182. This time change is fucking up my day. Nap time was too early and now its too late. I’ll be performing in the dark this week and darkness is not my friend at this point. Besides that, my driving vision at night has deteriorated with age.

    Harrumph I say! Harrumph!

  183. How quickly do you think they’ll blow through the 70M Netflix deal?

As fast as a Stormy Daniels blowjob at 500 a pop.

  184. I don’t see how Netflix continues as a service in anything like its current form for much longer.

  185. I love Otter videos. I H8 their creepy hands. Water Sausages.

  186. Oso, I just make egg salad with avocado mayo (everything but the bagel seasoning, sriracha and cracked black pepper) and I thought of you. I prayed for Oso.

As I recall mayo makes you gag…wait, is that Beasnsnsnsnsns???

  187. Is she trying too hard? She seems like she’s trying too hard.

  188. Wow. The Jets are horrible. They usually are, but this is a whole new level of suck.

  189. What if weed is the medicine that god gave us, but we created “pills” and all you people who are anti cannabis and only use big pharmaceutical stuff are actually going to hell???

  190. We use Netflix. Penelope can download TV series or movies at the library and then play them at home. Our internet isn’t good enough to stream.

  193. Mare, I’m allergic to eggs. I’m checking out your avocado recipe. I get really tired of mustard based everything.

  194. I think that guy was scrambling her eggs.

  195. Is that Kate Beckinsale? She’s really rather beautiful but she’s nutty. She was dating that guy from Saturday Night Live. They enjoyed giving tongue to each other on camera.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

  197. I have been watching football for 8 hours, only about 5 more to go.

  198. I ran 16 miles. It took me a looong freakin time.

  199. after the news of them purchasing in Martha’s Vineyard (where it’s about 98% white).

HA! That use to be me in Texas watching college football. Start at 8:00 am then I’d stay up and watch the west coast games.

  201. Interesting, Jimbro.

  202. Pepe, I want to be Bret Contreras when I grow up.

  203. God gave us hemlock too, Madison.

  204. Pepe, I want to be Bret Contreras when I grow up.

Truly, he is a god amongst men

  205. At some point, you’ve bought enough houses.

  206. My Tia’s 23 and Me. 58% European. 33% being Spanish and Portuguese. Spanish is mostly Basque. NA is 20%. Western Asian is 3%. North African 3%. Sub Saharan African 2.6%. 11% not assigned.

  207. That T&C article is from August, 2016 and was probably written a month or two earlier. The interviewees are a rogues gallery of the JEF’s cronies. That was at the high mark of Obama’s influence.

  208. Moorish influence on Spain. If Native Americans don’t do DNA because of origin BS, how does 23 and Me know NA %? Her hubby is “The Spainiard”. He’s less European than she is. I find it interesting that mi familia is doing this.

  209. Moops.

  210. Herr is hanging with Wiser, Aggie, Texas Jew, XBrad, etc on Twitter. Mare…we get pics.

  212. Herr stopped by here this morning.

Do you mean facebook? I saw xbrad post something but haven’t seen Wiser.

  213. All the cool kids are on Twitter. Just saying.

  214. I saw Xbrad on twitter but Wiser only tweets every now and then.

  215. He’s getting shadow banned. Go to his home page. Navigate from there.

  216. Truly, he is a god amongst men

I was sooo close to switching my major to kinesiology with a minor in physics in undergrad. Wife #1 talked me out of it, partially by reminding me that I was still out of shape myself. Then later she talked me out of joining the Navy as a NukeE, because she didn’t want to be a Navy wife.

And I still married her. I am such a fool.

  217. You could have had a portable nuclear reactor powering a bank of Bootymaster 5000s by now.

  218. The world is so much poorer for my bad decisions.

  219. I got off Twitter because it’s a cesspool, but I gotta admit that alt-right bodybuilding Twitter is funny to watch.

  220. I don’t miss it.

Life is too short for that.

  221. alt right bodybuilding twitter? that does sound funny.

  225. That isn’t spice.

  226. My lard likes mayo. SYWM

  227. Husband told me the kids went to church this morning. *wipes a tear*

Then SIL helped him clean out the gutters. Afterwards, husband almost broke him. Mr. B went up in the attic to clear the way for the bathroom exhaust and extend it. When SIL got to the top of the ladder, it slipped out from under him and he was left dangling. That’s his story and he’s sticking with it.

  228. Do you have to join the Navy to work with nukes, leon?

  229. No, but it’s a common way to get there if you don’t want to go the engineering route in college.

  230. I have BSE in physics, Beasn. The Navy would have paid me to get a MSE in NukeE.

  231. I got thrown off of Twitter for calling Obama a pussy. Not going back.

  232. Dalton easily remembered particulars.

  233. Wiser is being shadowbanned. Twitter can be fun but I almost always feel better when I don’t go there.

  234. G’morning Mare

I flip through twitter every so often for like 15-20 minutes and like to focus on the funny/stupid videos. Every so often I see a product or service I think I’d like to know more about “some day” and rather than sign up for their emails I’ll follow them on twitter (usually never to be heard from or thought of again but that’s a whole other story).

  235. I turned the Pats-Ravens game off at the start of the second quarter as soon as the Ravens gashed the Patriots defense for a huge run. After watching the first quarter I had a feeling how it would end. I read a summary this morning and I’m glad I turned it off when I did because it sounds like they were coming back at one point then the wheels fell off the bus and I would have needed to keep watching.

Lamar Jackson is an exciting player to watch and the Ravens are definitely playing a smash mouth, college style of triple option football but running QB’s don’t seem to last long in the NFL before the law of averages catches up with them and they become “injury plagued”

  236. Mornin’ Jimbro!

Hotspur was absolutely right. Jack Ryan season two is a mess.

This is not a spoiler because this was from season one but James Greer being a muslim, foul-mouthed, poor decision-making glump is a slap in the face to Clancy’s wise, stand up, southern tradition leader.

  237. MMM inbound. Possum is up early and Mrs Caruthers is not, so your patience is a necessity.

  238. The thing I hate about Twitter, is that you basically KNOW when people aren’t paying attention to you. It’s too much of a clique, and the doors are shut pretty hard.

No thanks. Besides, I prefer more than X words/ characters. It can be funny, yes. But I rarely go there.

This is very true. It’s high school only worse.
