Just Pecking Away

So one might think that a “Pecking Away” post might be about the latest currency of exchange for a maudlin teen child being bartered to a man for chickens, but one would be wrong.

Alas another important study has shown a disturbing trend  in the course of events for the American male.

Wow – Retrospective in a minor chord

Quite a while back (can’t remember how long ago because time kinda does its’ thing around me and leaves vague images of passing) I thought about sending post ideas to Wiserdude and others. It took a number of years for me to stop being a lazy farquaar and actually step up and post. Many are the times that I’ve intended to thank all of you beautiful turds for the years of laughter that your post ideas and comments have brought – you all are quite a group – Every one of you.

I was looking at the User list and reminiscing.

The U in Life – taking stock

Happiness is approximately U-shaped through the life course; mental distress tends to reach a maximum in middle age. Our regression equations allow for confounding influences including income, education and marriage upon happiness and life satisfaction. The empirical findings should thus be read as tracing out an age U-shape in ceteris paribus well-being . In some nations, that U-shape holds in raw data; in other countries it is necessary to use multiple regression methods. Our main conclusion is meant as a broad characterization of the data, and should be kept in perspective. We have not presented detailed findings from the fitting of high-order polynomials. There is, for example, a little evidence from our non-parametric work for a further flattening, and a turn down, towards the end of a person’s life.” –
