Big Phat Poat

Long time commenter and flyboy Phat expressed a fondness in the last poat for Michael Steel, and since he’s looking for entertainment I thought I’d not judge but accommodate his proclivities.

MMM 235: The end of the drive

Not of MMM, mind you, but of my time in this weird job.  There are some parts of it I’m definitely going to miss (like my coworkers, and being able to kinda sorta talk about my job and having people be interested in it), and some parts I really won’t miss (like commuting past the airport, not having my kitchen right there for lunches, not having my gym nearby).  Friday (or possibly earlier, depends on when we determine that I’ve sufficiently brain-dumped to coworkers and management) will be my last day in the industry.  I am definitely going to miss the people.  They are generally great to work with even if we couldn’t talk about much else, and to a person they really want to solve the problem.  It’s been really nice to be part of a team that is focused, competent, and positive.  If things don’t work out with the new gig, they have said they’d have me back.  I don’t know that I’ll take them up on that, but I wouldn’t feel awful doing so.  Even if it’s “just a a job”, it really isn’t a bad one, I just think I’ve found a better one for me.

Okay, time for some abs.

Eclectic and prolific, there is an entire universe of Muniz to explore.

Yet again, I was not aware of Muniz before researching for this column which is odd in that he’s a really famous artist.  It just goes to show how low-brow, under-exposed, pedestrian, and milquetoast I truly am.

But enough about my virtues; let me succinctly highlight one of my many faults.  I have a poor concept of the passage of time when I am working on a production.  Please allow me to ask a straight faced question.

Did I miss posting last Tuesday?

don’t ask me.  I’m not myself these days.  Well, that’s not entirely true.  I am myself but this myself is not the myself that kicks it at The H2.  This is who I was prior 2009 and my re-deployment to film life has been an unique vignette into how my life would have been different had I zigged instead of zagged when I retired.

I miss you.

I am exhausted.

An eclectic group and thought provoking.

This first set contains some of my favorite selections from the year, that is not to say that next week’s review will disappoint, because it won’t.

Be good to each other and live life without regret.

Star Wire

What follows is an uncharacteristically wordy post.  It is not necessarily about art.
It has been a week since we learned of the too soon passing of our dear friend.  Much has been said about him and much has been shared regarding our feelings of loss and of joy and of laughter.

And that is good.
Rose is where he started and we are where we are.
We are still us.
We are different.
We are simultaneously diminished and reinforced.
And so, In the spirit of our group I would like to recognize another fellow without whom this salon would not be the same.  A man who in our presence routinely puts his heart on exhibit and has in a forthright fashion invited us to do likewise.
On a morning of utter dispair and heart broken confusion it was by his timely guidance and caring correspondence that I began to feel my blood flow and my breath return after such a trial of profoundly shocking sadness.
He laid bare that tragedy so that we might contemplate a path to healing.
He cares.
On any given evening his earnest effusions of angst and polemic are fiery and to the point; and on each Saturn’s Day his talent and wit are courageously put on display for all to enjoy and criticize.
He is thoughtful.
When I was invited to post here he said to me, “Here’s the keys, Kid.  Go fuckin’ nuts!”  Promptly, upon mine first post, he must have realized that I am an artfag and probably lamented what had become of this Fast-Forward Banglor Political Blogtank of Awesomeness.
At any rate, In a figleaf moment he commented, “Well, do a Georgia O’Keeffe post.”
As it happens, I don’t do requests.
Although, as fate would have it the artist fits in rather well this week in our further unwinding of Modernism in contemporary art and so…
Mr. Wiserpants, this Bud’s for you.
With many thanks and caring.
You are a good friend to us all and we are truly lucky to have you.
