HHD 12-21-22

Good morning, and welcome to today’s edition of Hunky Hump Day.

This starts kinda slow and a little monotone, but stick with it.

I don’t ordinarily mix memes and HHD, but this made me laugh and laugh.

I’m going to confess that I am very tired tonight, so this week’s HHD is going to be a “best of” Christmas models. Let’s see who’s there in the wayback machine.

Going to be busy this week.

Must have really liked this one, he shows up more than once.

And that will have to do.

Thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the links every week. Y’all have a good day.

More than 50% of these guys look like they could be hetero, which is amazing for a series of beefcake pics.
    Good morning.
I’m making my bread dough for Christmas Eve today. It will have a couple days of cold proofing then I’ll bake it up on the morning of. That will be the extent of my Christmas prep. Oh, and I have to buy money cards for the kids.

Thanksgiving was the last time I made my go-to sourdough recipe, but I changed a couple things and it was best ever. Instead of honey I used brown sugar, and I added a scant 1/2 teaspoon or so of my homemade diastatic malt per loaf. And I toasted the sesame seeds and really crusted them on instead of just sprinkling them as decoration. Wowee, it was good.
Going to see if I can reproduce those results.

Try adding dilithium crystals. They always seemed important on the Starship Enterprise.

I just sent pictures of my gifts to Leon. One was sideways for some reason but the viewer can simply tilt their head to make it right. Tracking info says my gift arrived last Friday but it may have paled in comparison to the other arrival on the same day.

Oh yeah, I forgot I have to go get the cash for my nephews. I’m not a fan of giving cash, but that’s what they want, so…

I have a meeting this morning, and then I’m done with scheduled work until Jan. (I still have a lot of background reading to do for the new role, but I can do that whenever.)

  11. Comment by Car in on December 21, 2022 8:19 am

Lumps – I really can’t believe people are still taking Covid seriously. I can’t even with maskers right now. when I see them enter my restaurant I just PRAY they don’t get put in my section.

  12. Comment by Car in on December 21, 2022 8:21 am

I give all the nephews gift cards. I hate it but they’re at that age – I’d rather do that than throw money away. I give my one nephew a book with a gift card. If i know what types of books they like, I do that.

    WaPo backtracking …

Notice how aware she is of her audience, who are apparently all gung-ho vaxx mandate still. Those people are Covid cultists. Inflexible and unable to readjust their thinking in light of new and better data, after becoming dedicated “followers” after swallowing a little propaganda. And these are the supposed “intelligent and highly educated” greater DC area subscribers and other movers and shakers of the managerial class. No analytical or critical thinking skills apparent.
It’s no wonder our governing, media, and C-suite class is so dysfunctional and incompetent. But they sure think highly of themselves.

  14. Comment by Car in on December 21, 2022 8:22 am

    It’s all lies.

MJ said that long ago, and Pat quotes it all the time.

It’s all lies. Covid. Job numbers. the FBI. all of it.

  15. Comment by lumps on December 21, 2022 8:26 am

Well, to be fair, it wasn’t “a little” propaganda. It was absolutely ubiquitous and also infused with a powerful tribalism. Be one of the GOOD people. Not one of those icky types, ick!

Scott just showed me some person on the nextdoor app who has covid. She commented that she is vaxxed and has had only had one booster and needs to get another one after she recovers from covid.
She actually typed this out and it made sense to her.

  21. Comment by Mrs. Peel on December 21, 2022 8:46 am

My younger coworkers were trading tips on how to jump the line at the beginning, when old people were being prioritized and young people generally weren’t eligible. What a bunch of selfish little assholes. If they really believed their Kill Grandma rhetoric, they wouldn’t have been trying to elbow Grandma out of the way.

I don’t give gifts to the neflings any more. I buy NASA shirts on occasion for the great-neflings. This year, I only bought gifts for Mr. RFH, Rocketboy, DIL, their two dogs, Mini-me, my dad, stepmom, and Secret Santas. I also bought a housewarming gift for a co-worker. Cookies to dad, favorite brother, and close friends.

I’ll be working all this week and next week. I have one day left of use-or-lose leave, and I don’t know exactly when I’ll be using it. I have flight hardware due in early January and support work for two projects. It will be nice and quiet at work, and I’ll get a lot done, but I hate having to go in while Mini-me is home.

Speaking of which, time to get off my butt and go to work.

  23. Comment by leoncaruthers on December 21, 2022 9:21 am

  25. Comment by Brother Tim on December 21, 2022 9:42 am

Get out early Friday, though. Likely nothing worth considering will happen that day anyway.

  26. Comment by lumps on December 21, 2022 10:26 am

To try to hand-mix 12 loaves worth of bread dough all at once instead of splitting it up has been such a tragically insane decision. I’ve got it all sitting in a food safe 4-gal bucket. Me and the dough need to rest a bit before round two. Holy crap.

  27. Comment by leoncaruthers on December 21, 2022 10:47 am

My Massachusetts liberal sister who I truly do love is all in on vaccines. She’s on immunosuppressants for her Crohn’s Disease so I don’t blame her for buying in to the BS they were peddling. Knowing her, even if she were not bothered by Crohn’s, she’d be all in on them regardless.

So I’m shopping tonight. Not for a vacuum.

    I bet she wants a post-hole auger.

OH MAN, sorry to hear that, I’d hate to have to go to a store right now. We avoid even the streets near the main shopping areas this time of year.

  40. Comment by lumps on December 21, 2022 12:12 pm

Every now and then I think about how horrible it was to own a retail store, and that naturally leads to remembering how sad and scared I was when we had to close it down. If I had only known how much better life would be, I’d have closed it wayyyy sooner instead of hanging on to the bitter end. Fourteen and a half years of working six days a week (sometimes seven!), insane holiday rushes, and being mistreated by the general public. DAMN what a waste!

Anyone know why this has become the norm rather than a rare, newsworthy event? I can make a lot of guesses but I wonder if the causes have been nailed down by “experts”.

Ben used to come home with horror stories about dealing with these losers at Chic-Fil-A but we thought it was because he was a little young for the job (15 when he started) but it continued the entire time he was there and was experienced at his job. After leaving his job at the airport before he started at college he looked for a part time job and Panera was the first place that got back to him. He made it through 2 days of training before he said fukkit because of the customers giving employees crap about their orders. He told the manager who hired him why he was unable to continue the job. He now gets orders together for online shoppers at Whole Foods which even he calls Whole Paycheck. Minimal stress, good pay and a nice discount.

Leon, for Dan’s 40th birthday, he said he didn’t want anything. I didn’t get him anything. Big mistake. That year, he attended Steelers at Broncos. Playoff game at Steelers. I was still paying a few years later. Did I learn? That would be a great big “No.” Dan “We pretty much buy everything we want anyway, let’s not do Christmas this year.” 🐻 “Ok.” I didn’t buy him anything. He bought and framed a vintage movie poster of my favorite Disney film. Surprise.

I am always polite and nice to retail workers and waiters, because, you know, I’m a decent human being, and an unexpected side benefit is that I get good and sometimes even excellent service. I’m talking freebies, best table in the restaurant, extra advice on the best product to buy, etc. That’s not why I do it (see above re: attempting to be a decent human being), but the bennies from being decent are so nice that you would think that even someone who is actuated by the purest self-interest would catch on.
