Whenever I think of the central tenets of CRT, I’m always struck by how self-defeating it is. You can’t look at any part of it and think it will bring about ‘social justice.’ It will create more racism. Period.
To say that a more colorblind society is not the preferred condition, that there’s something wrong with that, is not just wrong, it is a mistake. Strategically, if you want people to be able to work better together, to be fair to each other, a kind and just society, where people are in community with each other, colorblindness is the superior endpoint. It literally destroys division between us.
But CRT says no, no:
You take one set of little kids, and tell them they are descended from oppressors and they are still oppressors.
You take one set of little kids, and tell them they are descended from the oppressed, and that they are still the oppressed.
In other words, you emotionally abuse ALL the little kids and make them think they have some kind of -not just genetic- but characterological connection to human events that happened long ago…human events that are difficult even for adults to learn about and process without experiencing strong emotions. We had moved from capital city out to the burbs when I was a kid. My personal journey with racism started soon after high school, when I left home and moved back to the city.
I was a 19 year old liberal. I shocked myself with racial hatred that rose in me, soon after experiencing contact with some of the people I now lived among.
I was young. It took me a few years, some jobs, and meeting people of more walks of life before I realized what had happened is that I had made my first personal contact with people who possessed the exact opposite set of values from the ones I had been raised with. Anti-values, really. I value marriage, honesty, maintaining healthy habits, supporting yourself with a job, education, trying to better yourself, etc. Essentially, I had met a bunch of defeatist assholes living in a defeatist asshole culture. I would have reacted this way to people of my color if they had these same attitudes. And those people also certainly exist, met them too.
It took me some more time and de-programming to realize that it’s okay to like my values and to hate assholes and to not want to be around them, whatever they look like doesn’t matter.
If we go back to the concept of colorblindness in society, versus teaching kids to embrace sick historical roles, which approach is likely to produce more defeatist assholes living in self-maintained misery?

They are definitely 10-20 bigger than they were in Nov, but they’ve eaten another couple hundred $$ in feed and hay over the winter. Not a great tradeoff. For sheep, 8-9 months is the sweet spot for feed conversion, and that’s when I’d planned to harvest all of them.

I started listening to Joe Rogan several months ago, he is highly entertaining. That lead me to listen to several other podcasts. Today I learned a few things, listening to “Our Fake History” podcast on “Real Gryphons” I learned they were thought of throughout history as real, and because most of the original art came from the Scythians who hunted gold in the Gobi desert around 1000 bc, where there are an abundance of Protoceratops bones that look rather like a lion with a beak.
I also learned from the OFH podcast on “What became of the great library of Alexandria” podcast that the word Museum, is what the ancient Greeks called the library, it is translated as “the palace of the Muses”

I was being dead serious, Sobek. I picked up a copy of GR at City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco back around 1997 or so, and it took me a year to read the damn thing after I got started on it. But when I was done, I had this feeling like, “Wow, that was like nothing I’ve ever read before!” Everything from war to paranoia to love to comedy to musical numbers to near-pornographic depictions of depravity, all with a cast of hundreds of characters, some of whom (especially Roger Mexico and Katje) I’d really begun to care for by the end, in spite of the seams of reality splitting and bursting. it’s been called an “encyclopedic novel,” and for good reason. I don’t think there’ll ever be another book quite like it.
