This quote of the day from Dictionary d0t c0m doesn’t seem like it was arbitrarily selected:

“Imagine if we had real journalists that loved the country and actually did journalism that held the powers that be feet to the fire…..and informed the public.”
Yes, actually this would make all the difference in the world.
Commentary I just saw – which who knows but we should find out:
I listened to an Afghan who said they left work and the next day came to the base, it was locked and deserted. It was either brake in or go home. This was the main US base for the region. There is NO WAY this is unplanned or a mistake. They ignored Trumps exit plan and agreements and just left The Biden Free for the Taliban. Obama/Biden armed the Radicals for The Radical Islamist Spring. The same is happening here. While you’re watching this sh-t show, they passed the Democrat Take Control Bill, claiming it was infrastructure, and are running through a bill To Cut Taxes for Rich Democrats and Their Supporters.
He says that he’s started doing laps around the beds at night with the other candidates- for 30 minutes. They also load up their backpacks to do some weight stuff. He PST’d last week and he still passed but he had lost a bit. He thinks he gets two weeks before he gets shipped off to the next school. 3 weeks to go.
I’m in a fb group for family of the boot camp people. MOST of them are worried they won’t pass the run, etc. Yesterday (for ethan’s grad date ) was the last day they could pass the test, and a bunch of moms, etc, were posting that they got “sent back”. They get another chance, but their graduation is delayed.

No. His fitness level will diminish if he sticks to basic level activity. This kid is damn near Olympic level fitness already. Well beyond your average recruit.
Most of basic training is making sure the little boogers have all the skills mommy and daddy should have taught you. Hygiene, how to dress, how to clean, how to listen and follow directions. Then intro to the organization and its policies.
Having de-trained from it a couple of times before my knee told me it was time to stop, “the run” is the first and fastest thing to go. I haven’t done shit in the last couple of years but I bet I could still total 600 on squat/dead/bench with some warmup. I once took a week off from running (when I was doing 20+ miles a week and had a rest pulse of 42 bpm) and I almost couldn’t start again.
Luckily everyone going into the prep school that follows is in the same boat.

Part of the reason I got out of the Army, besides that I could see the political stupidity coming and knew I wasn’t competitive for promotion, was that my feet and knees were telling me that I needed to stop running so much. I was never a strong runner to begin with, and the military really isn’t good about training proper running.

I maxed the Army basic PFT at 47 before going over. Not that hard. Now at 59, run would be a struggle, but could probably do it, probably wouldn’t be able to move or do anything for two days after…..

Who you calling middle age burnout? Bish! 😆
I’m firmly ensconced in the get off my lawn stage. Im at a age where my cultural references have entered generational obscurity. The youngins at work have no idea what I’m talking about. But there is a certain amount of entertainment to be had playing the grumpy old man. My partner is also my age and very similar in demeanor.
What *are* liberals talking about right now? ANyone know? Its like all my liberal buds have ghosted me. Just like Biden did to Boris Johnson earlier this week.
Here’s a little story. So, we put deposits down on TWO jet skis back in Feb or something. Delay delay delay, bla bla bla. Three weeks ago, we get a call that we’re finally going to get ONE of them. It’s heading north THIS week.
Well, so we make time and go all the way down to the shop to sign paperwork, and hand over cash for a dual trailer.
Guess who still doesn’t have a jet ski or a trailer? Two weeks since we signed everything.
Yesterday Pat calls, and the guy says they don’t know what happened to our jet ski. They actually received on shipped AFTER ours. They just don’t know where our’s went.
Weird, since we registered the VIN and everything with the secretary of state paperwork, etc. So … theft? Did some dealer take cash in the pocket on the boat’s trip up north?
Carin, my parents ordered a new pontoon boat in May that they were told originally they’d have by July 1. They are now optimistically hoping to get it in the water before they have to get it out of the water.
What’s weird is the complete lack of concern by the dealership. Pay may have to go nuclear on them. Its not his way. But honestly, I think we’ve been more than patient.
They should have refused the $$ for the trailer until they were sure it was going to be there.

I need to find a link for this, from the HQ comments:
The bomb threat story disappeared the minute posters started noticing that the actor was also the guy who was a “capitol police officer who fought off deranged Trump supporters”, a “frontline covid doctor”, a “soldier with religious objections: and “a man dying of covid” in various news pictures

Oh, I meant to mention about Elon’s “friendly, personal robots” that take all the labor. Genesis 3:17 says that the toil is our lot after the Fall. It’s sometimes called “the curse of Adam” because it comes right after Eve is cursed with pain in childbirth, but the words of it are different. Subtly so, but different all the same.
God doesn’t curse Adam, He curses the ground, saying that it will only bring forth fruit with sweat and toil, and then tasks Adam therewith. Man is made for that task, and he is incomplete without toil. Man without work is less than man, indeed, less than human. Civilization collapses when the men do no work. If men go to Mars just to sit and “work” through laptops, why even go?
The left has a mirrored problem of the right, wherein their politicians promise populist ends like a generous welfare state and debt forgiveness and wall-to-wall green nonsense… and then they govern at the whim of Goldman-Sachs and Jeff Bezos.
There’s a bunch of issues that unite populists across the left-right spectrum and poll at like 60-80%, and both political parties consistently fail to deliver on them because what the people want is irrelevant so long as They have money and power. The parties do all they can to keep us fighting over the bullshit that divides us because if we realized how much of what we want is actually the same stuff, we’d go on a guillotine frenzy that would make Marat sprint for his bathtub.
Consider the things that consistently poll above 60%:
Strong borders (this always polls high, even with democrats)
Keeping manufacturing in the US, good wages for American workers
Civil order and policing real criminal behavior
Strong dollar/sound money
Welfare for those who need it and cannot work
The parties campaign on these, but delivery is sparse, because none of them line the pockets of the politicos. The average American leftist isn’t actually a communist, they just want “shared prosperity” (admittedly poorly defined) and think that Republicans are the party of fat cat CEOs exploiting the working poor. They hate their own successful politicians because they seem them doing the exact same thing they think all the Rs are doing. Matt’s critique of 0 hits him over and over for exactly that.
I know we disagree on some serious issues, but there’s never actually a debate or conversation about them, they get swept aside for the divisive shit that turns Us into serfs and Them into lords.
I could argue in good faith with Taibbi. Chuck Schumer? Warren Wilhelm? Not a chance.
the left thinks the government is the best way to generate an economy through regulation. the right knows its through the individual and freedom. the left covets others wealth while the right celebrates individual success
the left thinks the government is the best way to generate an economy through regulation
And while they are wrong in thinking that the government creates jobs, they aren’t wrong to think that it should protect the American worker. We should be threatening tariffs, and following through on those threats. We should be ensuring that strategic necessities like food, energy, metals, and integrated circuits are made here and not by rivals and enemies. There’s common ground to be found, and we’re not being permitted to find it by those who benefit from our division.
Every part of that scene couldn’t be filmed today, Jay. No POC, Chief Wahoo, individual achievement overcoming difficulty through effort and hard work. All of that is verboten now.
Not relevant to the current conversation, just a relic of a bygone age not to be seen again in our lifetimes.
I’ve done a little bit of reading on Subsidiarity and Distributism and it was a real eye opener. I used to be basically on the side of Austrian economic, but that ends in pathological situations like all your chips being made in Taiwan and would-be factory labor reduced to food stamps and decadence. Tariffs and similar regulations to keep incomes high and competence local outweigh ricardian advantage in fallen world where enemies and catastrophes abound.
What we now call ‘populism’ was once the unspoken set of agreed-upon common principles of American governance. If you asked a Union soldier and a Confederate about the role of government, you’d have gotten almost exactly the same answer. Our ruling “elite” is nowhere near that now, and in the process of dividing and diluting the population, they’ve ensured that the Us is basically at it’s own throat while they conquer us all for the WEF crowd.
The original was pretty damned good. We probably just need to update the parts about enfranchisement and limits on the judiciary to explicitly outlaw national injunctions.
What they took from us.
Opportunity.
Truth.
Reciprocity.
Community.
Strength.
AND COUNTLESS MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WHO COULD HAVE BEEN FRIENDS, MENTORS, BENEFACTORS, INVENTORS, AND SOULMATES.
I know goddamn full well what they took from us.
God asks me to forgive. He and I, we’re going to have to differ on this one.
Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on August 20, 2021 11:02 pm
I got into a discussion with a friend today about forgiveness. I said it was important to try to understand those who have harmed us and try to forgive, she said it may be admirable to do so but it wasn’t actually an important or necessary task.
I know there are books written on this subject. Anybody know good ones?
Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on August 20, 2021 11:58 pm
Forgiveness isn’t really about the other person, it’s about us. I don’t mean that in a narcissistic way, I mean that forgiving another person is about no longer allowing that person’s actions to continue to harm us.
Right, so my point was that forgiving is a magnificent triumph of the intellect over base emotion. Your emotions want to hate and punish your abuser forever and ever, but that ties you to that abuser, forever and ever, when the better goal is to be free of him (her). Also, your emotions will forever make a victim out of you, and victims, being twisted, become the most cruel people, the second they get the chance.
We ended up at this debate: what is forgiving? Is it acceptance or indifference? And how can indifference be distinguished from forgiveness?
Leggy
Wow.

Remember what they stole from you
We are right in the middle of the cone of death.
I need to get supplies tomorrow.
the left thinks the government is the best way to generate an economy through regulation
There’s common ground to be found, and we’re not being permitted to find it by those who benefit from our division.
those protections apply to the earners. it doesn’t impede them. trump got it, and Reagan before him
not sure I get the significance of the video but I always love that scene
you are right, they blame the earner for being greedy. bit they are the source of all success.
Populism is on the menu.
It could either be the left leaning or tight leaning variety.
Trump was the right leaning version which is why EVERYONE in power united to stop him.
MJ nailed it as hard as he nailed your mom.
I was ‘almost’ out of gin and decided that I may as well finish the bottle. Apologies.
Canada Dry ginger ale and lemonade is a fantastic mixer, btw.
Gin & Ale for the win
sounds good to me!
Lemme know when you want to devise Constitution 2.0. Folks need a goal to strive towards.
The original was pretty damned good. We probably just need to update the parts about enfranchisement and limits on the judiciary to explicitly outlaw national injunctions.
Rory Stewart is the next Farage.
Why do the English all look so… English? Thank God I have Bavarian ancestors to balance my face out.
Term limits need to be added to the new Constitution.
God only forgives those who repent, Brotim.
Respond accordingly to the unrepentant who’ve wronged you.
I got into a discussion with a friend today about forgiveness. I said it was important to try to understand those who have harmed us and try to forgive, she said it may be admirable to do so but it wasn’t actually an important or necessary task.
I know there are books written on this subject. Anybody know good ones?
Gospel according to St Luke.
Forgiveness isn’t really about the other person, it’s about us. I don’t mean that in a narcissistic way, I mean that forgiving another person is about no longer allowing that person’s actions to continue to harm us.
Alex is correct. I believe Dr Greg Popcak has a book on the subject but can’t recall the title.
I’m extremely bad at it and have yet to forgive God for making me, so my thoughts on the matter are not trustworthy.
Deviants enjoy rubber products.
