  1. ah, the track suits are still a thing

  2. Re Kim Gardener:

I think I put this up at the HQ yesterday.

My time in government taught me that there are hundreds of thousands of people who simply don’t work. Probably millions.

We’re starting to see it in jobs that formerly demanded competency but have shifted toward diversity as the primary qualification.

  3. mare, this is the kerfluffle about Cheney:

    https://www.gopusa.com/pelosi-bars-trump-allies-from-jan-6-probe-gop-vows-boycott/

GOP rep stays on committee because she was put there by Pelosi. And she was bashing Jan 6 from the capitol steps. Her latest is that it was the worst attack since 1814. Yeah, because the capitol was burnt down like the British did to the White House. More laughable than the Civil War comparisons.

It’s not just government, it’s all large organizations.

  5. My time in government taught me that there are hundreds of thousands of people who simply don’t work. Probably millions.

A first-order approximation of the overall number could be had by adding up the headcounts for the non-teaching public school system employees in every metro area.

  6. My program is running on approximately 20% of the assigned staff. We could fire the rest and give overtime and save a LOT of money.

  7. “”We’re starting to see it in jobs that formerly demanded competency but have shifted toward diversity as the primary qualification.””

    The muppet is totes raciss.

  8. It’s not just government, it’s all large organizations.

I don’t disagree but in government it seems as if people actually don’t show up or do almost anything. And its tolerated.

Not so much in big companies. There are people who barely work or just sort of punch the clock but it’s not like what I witnessed at the VA.

    Small sample, though.

  9. We could fire the rest and give overtime and save a LOT of money.

I don’t think contractors bill that way but I’m sure it’s different everywhere. In my case it was per FTE.

You had to have the FTE on the contract to bill for them. The contractor didn’t get paid a monthly fee – they had to have the staff at a certain level in order to bill to the contract limit.

  10. The muppet is totes raciss.
    ——————–
    Well, obviously.

  11. We bill and are paid by the hour, OT is in the contract but never approved because we’re already busting the budget with barely-functional staff bloat.

  12. We’re starting to see it in jobs that formerly demanded competency but have shifted toward diversity as the primary qualification.

I thought about a Revolver article when I read your comment. It was about S. Africa and the failure of the first nation run under CRT principles. Revolving power outages due to the companies being required to hire under diversity rules. Same with the police.

    This one

  13. In the last 2-3 years we’ve had an explosion of black people being hired at the hospital. Disproportionate to their numbers in our state. I don’t give AF as long as they are competent without changing the standards. I remember a male OR nurse who they tried to train for about a year who was utterly incompetent and finally got shuffled off somewhere else

  14. This poat made me feel all weird inside.

  15. Thanks, Jay.

  16. Wakey wakey

Drive to Detroit – moving my sister’s ashes to an urn we got her. Yesterday was the anniversary of her death.

So, I’m waiting until BOngino comes on until I start the drive. So I have something to listen to.

  17. Will her ashes be interred? My dad’s are buried with my mom and brother’s caskets. Ben’s dad’s ashes were scattered in Acadia NP which is probably illegal if you’re caught

  18. jebus, it’s 11 already?

  19. OFFS DeSantis encouraging vaccines.

    Another one bites the diust.

    Eff you, vaccine butt boy.

  20. Big 12 is about to die, lovely.

    What do you think Pendejo?

  21. everyone is recommending vaccines, I wonder what changed. DeSantis doing so indicates to me that there is nothing else, and it’s the only way to prevent Buyden from shutting him down.

  22. The whole world is going off the rails. Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

  23. Our only hope now is an invading Russian army.

  24. “”Our only hope now is an invading Russian army.””
    Sad
    But possibly true.

  25. I don’t see the Rooskies pulling that off anytime soon. They have their own troubles. It’s gonna have to be aliens. Come on you grey-skinned, bug-eyed bastards! Put away your anal probes and do a proper invasion!

Welcome to Earf! *Punches Grey in the mouf*

  26. Well it sure as fuck won’t be the Australians.

    Messican cartels, maybe.

  27. How can Buyden shut DeSantis down?

  28. He can’t.

  29. Well..OK,

    But I’m not shouting “Wolverines”.

  30. But I’m not shouting “Wolverines”.

I wouldn’t believe you if you did, O Hi O boy.

  31. Aw, come on Pups! You have to get into the spirit of the thing! Shouting “Hostages!” doesn’t have quite the same ring.

  32. To be fair, I’ve never shouted it either, even when I was one.

  33. I like the idea of shouting Hostages. I don’t even know what we’re talking about but I like the idea.

  34. Fuck Salt!

  35. MJ, Wolverines! is from the movie Red Dawn. The original, not the lame remake. Russians invade us, high schoolers fight back and shout stuff. Good flick.

  36. It’s the little things. Fast food places seem to struggle more and more with the business they get because they can’t staff. I order a pizza, it says 25-35 minutes, a half hour later it’s not even past “Making”–the earliest stage. Prices go up, when you can find stock. Lots of jobs around, but nobody seems to want them. Everything seems shabbier. Anything “new” seems like it was from ten years ago at best.

Things fall apart; the center cannot hold…

  37. A worthy poem

    https://poets.org/poem/second-coming

I try to carefully read it a couple of times a year when someone references it. Guess today is one of those days.

  38. Little Caesar’s near me is randomly closed early because they can’t staff the late shift.

  39. Our little hometown pizza shop, which hits above its weight class, has hardly been open since the Covid hysteria. Every now and then I see people walking out with food but every time we’ve called the phone rings endlessly. We’ve pretty much given up on them.

  40. There was a decent pizza place near my apartment in Columbus which I ordered from regularly during the pandemic. I figured I could do my part to help keep them afloat. But they had an online ordering system and I was close enough to do take out rather than bother with delivery.

  41. Hmm, I looked up their facebook page which serves as their website and I guess they’re still open for curbside or home delivery

    “Wednesday, July 21

Freshly picked, local BLACK RASPBERRIES went into this gorgeous cheesecake! Get your slice before they’re gone!

We’re open today 11am-7pm for curbside pick-up & home delivery with our full menu available (except chicken wings that we’re unable to get). Please call 223-4902 to order by 645pm.💜”

  42. Good thing I’m still not altering my leisure schedule to watch these clowns

    https://nypost.com/2021/07/22/nfl-reveals-forfeit-rule-to-punish-unvaccinated-players/

  43. “The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.”

If that doesn’t nail the current state of affairs, eh?
I’ve also been thinking of that poem a lot lately.

  44. So, what is the deal with chicken wings? Did Bezos shoot them all into space in his dido rocket or something?

  45. No more right wing, no more left wing, just one big progressive chicken, comrade. Stand in line and wait for your chance at a drumstick, maybe a thigh!

  46. Mfg is at a crawl.
Just ordered a trigger group and got a notification it won’t ship for 3 months….
    What!!??!!!

  47. I’m open to an alien invasion.

  48. Bring it bishes!!

  49. Just slammed a dude with a 113 point word on WWF. BOO YEAH!

Don’t you want to wait until you get your trigger first though Jam?

  50. Restaurant supply place we frequent hasn’t had cases of boneless ck thighs in weeks. I keep checking stock. Nope.

  51. All the drumsticks you want though.

  52. And leg/thigh quarters. Those used to be around .40/lb, now they are about .70/lb. What is the most economical way to use these parts for canning?
I’m thinking peel the skins and render for cooking fat, pressure-can the flesh, and then make broth out of the bones and scraps.

Or should I make broth with both the skin and the bones, since the skins contain collagen, and then just skim the fat off that? Seems like a time saver although I’ll probably get less schmaltz to play with.

I like to use every part of the buffalo.

  53. Masks for the fall!

The CDC is going to make parents choose between the shot or a mask.

    Why?

  54. I spent part of my day off working on my frame project. My miters are gorgeous. The key to good miters is excellent equipment. I never thought I could get such crisp corners until I got this amazing 2-in. putty knife…

  55. The real choice is, clotting/ cardiac injury, OR excessive CO2 in the blood, OR home school.

  56. Our school district said “masks optional” and “return to normal”. We shall see.

  57. The CDC is going to tell schools only vaccinated kids can be unmasked.

    Biden mentioned it last night.

Although he is braindead so no idea. Word as a Biden.

  58. We haven’t left the homeschool group.

Hammer’s back, finger’s on the trigger. I’ll do it again.

  59. My quiet hope is living long enough to see these shitheels strung up from every lamp-post, bridge, and other structure that will support the weight.

  60. Nobody is getting strung up – at least not the ones you are referring to.

Law enforcement, the military, and national security agencies are firmly on their side.

Agree. But we have to say it like Mel Gibson in Braveheart yelling FREEDOM!!!!!!

  62. calm down

  63. I called before noon to politely decline the local job and I have regretted it ever since.

  64. NEVER!!!

  65. I never thought I could get such crisp corners until I got this amazing 2-in. putty knife…

    ——-

    ha!

  66. I’m sorry to hear that. From the little I know, it didn’t seem like a good fit.

And you never know…all places are a disaster. It’s at it’s most attractive.

  67. Don’t you love it when you explain how to do something over and over, and someone refuses to put something where it’s supposed to go? Every. Single. Time.

  68. not seeing how a putty knife can improve miters

My friend got me to play Wordfeud with him. He used to play the game with his wife but it got awkward after their divorce. He used to routinely kick my ass but at this point it comes down to random letter assignment and luck in terms of who gets the BOO YEAH’s. In our current game he got a 141 point score for appendix and there’s no coming back from that.

In the last 2-3 years we’ve had an explosion of black people being hired at the hospital. Disproportionate to their numbers in our state

Didn’t Obamacare have some little poison pill embedded in it regarding how many (a disproportionate percentage) “minorities” have to be hired by medical facilities?

For “equity” and to “right” previously “racist” policies.

  84. TiFW is raciss for pointing out raciss policies.

  85. I’m not sure TiF, it’s entirely possible and would not surprise me in the least. Again, assuming competence, I don’t give a rat’s ass. Our medical staff is already over-represented with Dot Indians and all the Asians so let’s invite black people to the party.

I do know Obama invited a large number of Somalis to Lewiston which is a dying mill town. Maybe they’re moving to Bangor for jobs which is great. Someone needs to buy those packages of halal meat that are mysteriously appearing at the supermarket.

  86. TiFW, I wouldn’t be surprised. I just remember TFG seeding Somalis throughout MN, ME, and OH.

I’ve seen a few articles claiming BRC was “duped by the NYT”. I read the original article as it appeared and the comments weren’t particularly nuanced. The way they were presented probably didn’t help their cause but they made the first mistake by actually talking to the enemy. Should have learned from Trump and had their own film or recording crew present as a condition of the interview. I’m guessing the cancellations are hurting big time.

Paula mentioned another company this morning run by a military guy and a Crossfitter called Good Dudes Coffee …I guess all the cool names were taken

I’ve been wondering what the ncaa folks would do to mash the last little tiny bit of interest in sports out of me. This is probably it. Corporation sponsored sports teams that are loosely affiliated with institutions once known for providing a higher education doesn’t sound like my bag. Fuck em. My tv viewing will likely slide under double digit hours for the year now.

  100. Sorry for late answer. Been on the road all day. Attending funeral of college teammate tomorrow. From back in the day when we just made a first down and not a “THAT FIRST DOWN IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY TACO VILLA. OPEN TIL MIDNIGHT FOR ALL YOU HUNGRY BUFFALO FANS.”
