The List

Ok, so recently I was strongly encouraged to attend a struggle session at work, and it couldn’t have been more cringe. Think of that time Hotspur got caught in women’s underwear for the first time in the Macy’s dressing room. Take that, square it, add a cheese bag, and divide by the number of hot dogs Jay ate for breakfast.

Maximum cringe.

One of my favorite things that terrible public speakers all seem to do, is say that they want participation, discussion, disagreement, and debate. From there they generally talk for 20 minutes without taking a breath.

In that first 20 mins I learned a few things:

  • Black women are obese because the heightened cortisol levels from being black and a woman leads to weight gain. The medical community needs to catch up with the science.
  • Medicine should incorporate the lived experience of minorities and adjust the science.
  • Illegal immigrants are treated differently in emergency rooms. They don’t get the care they need because they are undocumented and skipped over. This needs to change.
  • Doctors assume black people in the ER who look like gangsters are up to no good and often ask them about drug use when they have symptoms that might be attributed to drug use.
  • Unconscious bias leads doctors to make all kinds of mistakes like forgetting to give black women anesthesia while sewing them up after giving birth.
  • ER doctors are straight white men.
  • We spend most of our federal tax dollars on defense, not the social safety net. This is bad. Really bad.
  • Systemic racism is factual. No evidence is needed of this fact.
  • Being woke isn’t a great term for what we’re talking about but it is great because it’s like religion, as in you are awakened to the reality around you. Use JEDI instead after you are ‘awoken’. Justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • You should advocate locally, form groups within the company to lobby local politicians for social justice issues. Use company time and resources to do this.
  • Equity demands that we take from people who have enough and give it to those who don’t so we all start in the same place. An example might be taking from white people and giving to black people.

I can’t even begin to tell you how silly this was. The people leading my company are either 1) cowards or 2) total idiots.

But now that I really think about it, why not embrace the power of and. The people leading my company are cowards and idiots.

The next morning I decided I couldn’t let it go. Although it’s a voluntary exercise, everyone knows that we have to attend because the stasi needs to know you’re there. I wrote a quick email to my boss letting her know that I will never participate in something like that again, under any circumstances. Politics ruins everything, and work is hard enough. Employees don’t need to be wondering if they need to comply just to get ahead or if silence is violence. It distracts from the mission. Forward thinking companies are already moving away from this bullshit because it competes with the simple, everyday gaol of, you know, doing your job.

But just as Hotspur suffered only temporary embarrassment when he was caught in garters, a valuable lesson was learned. First, lock the door. Second, the people in the struggle session that were all too happy to declare themselves allies and wanted to know how they could help promote wokism in the company are on a list.

I shit you not, I keep a list. It’s in a tiny little black book called THE LIST. I keep a list of names that I will never, under any circumstances, help with their careers. If they work for me…welcome to an average review accompanied by minimum salary increases. If I’m asked about their performance…expect to hear something bland to negative. If I’m in a position to interview or promote…so sorry, not your cup of tea.

Six new names were added to THE LIST this week. Thanks Jedi.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about starting an anonymous campaign for conservatives to start lists like this.

Sort of like the metoo thing. It started as a big ol spreadsheet of dudes not to work with, but then quickly morphed into something else.

The point is to kinda keep it secret but also to have it ‘known’ so that people are discouraged from brining this crap to work.

Just as conservatives are worried they’ll be outed if they don’t participate or shout at Goldberg enough, the woke people need to be afraid they’ll stifle their careers by shouting too loud.

Logic has no place here. Fear is the tool we need.

We have weekly emails called “Tim Talks” that may or may not lead to a podcast (I don’t know for sure, I just read the title and wait to roll my eyes until I hit Delete and not Reply All). Each Tim Talk is some aspect of wokeism. I don’t know how serious this effort is or if they’re just going through the motions to avoid a potential future employee lawsuit.

  4. Comment by MJ on May 6, 2021 8:30 am

I wonder how serious this garbage is too but then I realize that they’re pushing it. Hard.

They probably don’t really know what they’re pushing but it still rubs off. The leadership team or whoever is in charge is taking on the ideology of the speakers they bring in.

    It’s their fault.

Today in sports radio: Iowa Gov Reynolds introduces bill to ban transgender females from competing in women’s sports in IA. Consensus is: it’s just not a problem, and there aren’t enough trans girls trying to compete that a bill is needed. We republicans are just being conspiratorial. Fine, it’s not a problem, because the numbers are so small it won’t mean anything.

I noticed that there are more trans people than there are actual KKK members, and more trans people than those who are “insurrectionists” on Jan 6. Those aren’t a big deal, because the numbers just don’t make a difference.

So those are going away now, right lefties? Because fair is fair, right? Consistency is not a leftist trait.

That topic really got my blood pressure up today. Should have taken a reading while having my coffee. That would have been fun. Hell, i’m still irritated by the whole conversation.

    They can all DIAFF.

We’ve given enough, it doesn’t work. You must have the infrastructure of family and religion (or strong morals) to make this work.

Make the law, you dumb assholes so there won’t be a problem.

As the charge nurse in the ER Paula gets assigned the psych patients who are often low maintenance. That works out in most cases where she isn’t as busy as the other nurses and can handle the administrative side of things without being bogged down in patient care. It all falls apart when the psych patients are unruly. Yesterday was one of those days.

Her patient commando crawled out of the ER wearing only a hospital gown to escape. The desk prevented anyone from seeing. Brought back later by the cops after found in the parking lot of a local convenience store with the hospital gown pulled up to the waist. After being medicated in the ER they once again escaped by throwing a trash barrel at Paula and running out the door. It’s always struck me as funny when psych hospitals refuse to take a patient because it might interfere with the milieu of the unit. Hello, they’re really not helping the milieu where they’re located now!

  12. Comment by Jay in Ames on May 6, 2021 8:46 am

I’m ok with there being no law. I’m ok with allowing it to happen, because it truly is a small issue.

But its a nose in the tent issue, and that inflates the size, because the left is blowing it out of proportion.

The trans girl at work? great, I’ll call you she. But now you want me to celebrate you, not just acknowledge you. Sorry, bridge too far.

  13. Comment by mare on May 6, 2021 8:53 am

Jay, you’re not getting that if you don’t stop this shot now it becomes a problem. Make the law, move on. Does some poor girl lose a scholarship before they say, yeah we should have made a law.

I’ve been reading articles about this recently

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/boston-officials-hold-virtual-community-meeting-over-dirt-bikes-atvs-in-franklin-park/vi-BB1gpmMV

There’s a phenomenon where “urban yutes” like to ride dirt bikes and ATV’s on the road and occasionally the highways around Boston. I’m sure it happens elsewhere too. A lot of them are not registered or insured and they’re rarely street legal anyway. Franklin Park is an Olmsted creation and apparently it’s been taken over by these yutes. Since they’re overwhelmingly minorities everyone is pretending that there needs to be a “dialog” to reach a “solution”. What a steaming crock of shit.

  17. Comment by leoncaruthers on May 6, 2021 9:16 am

I’m at the point where I think the only reasonable response is to be unreasonable.

Ban men pretending to be women from sports? Not enough.

Ban the surgery, ban the hormone treatments, repeal laws against “conversion therapy”. Ban men wearing skirts and dresses in public, ban drag shows. Almost none of these will succeed, but the Window needs to be dragged, hard, back to the right.

  18. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on May 6, 2021 9:25 am

You need equal but opposite forces in order to maintain a static position. If one side says, “here is fine,” while the other says, “Let’s go further left” the result will be to move further left. If one side says “let’s go further left” then the other side needs to push back, even if their desired end state is to only maintain the current position.

  48. Comment by leoncaruthers on May 6, 2021 1:34 pm

Per Alex’s earlier comment: I’ve been doing this for a few years, but I’m in a situation where the assumption is still that everyone’s either in the office or going back to it, so the productivity tracking is mostly just the standard Agile crap. When the Virginia offices closed down for the Greatest Most Dangerous Most Deadly Plague in the History of Pestilence, they had us write weekly book reports on what we’d done that week… for a while. Eventually enough of us were delinquent or non-compliant enough that — combined with the fact that essentially no one but micromanaging project leads ever read them — they gave up and stopped asking for them.

Anything beyond task tracking and adequate commentary in whatever software you’re tracking those with is intrusive and unnecessary. A manager that wants you on camera and miked up all day is bad at the job.

    https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20210430-cluttercore-the-joy-of-a-maximalist-home

He’s not the only one to prefer an eclectic, cluttered approach. Currently, the UK news is dominated by a story about the refurbishment of PM Boris Johnson and his fiancée Carrie Symonds’ flat. In an opinion piece, the Guardian describes the look of Symonds’ chosen interior designer, Lulu Lytle, as “two parts Raj, one part boho, two parts anteroom from the set of The Crown”. For most maximalists though, the look is less specific.

The pandemic has changed the way we relate to the world, re-igniting a love of loungewear as well as indoor glamour, outdoor spaces and even our ideas of society. And it has changed the way we relate to our homes. Once, spaces that we only saw at the top and tails of days have become busily multifunctional: nurseries as well as offices, battlegrounds as well as sanctuaries. For some, that meant clear outs – charity shops are bracing themselves for the flood of second-hand goods – but for others, that has meant surrounding themselves with things they love.

    Sobek,

I’m in Stafford, VA. I’d be up for grabbing lunch or a beer. Just let me know. I will be out of town from 20-23 May.

  90. Comment by Sobek on May 6, 2021 7:31 pm

Okay. I’ll be in Alexandria, and I won’t have a car. So if you’re planning on being that far north some evening let me know, but otherwise I’ll just face south and wave.

What dates will you be in Alexandria?

    Alexandria is a whore.

My mom is back in the hospital. Oxygen tent. No dialysis. “Hospitalist” recommends Hospice. Her cardiologist isn’t onboard. I still don’t know what I am supposed to do. Her sisters are freaking out. We attended Opening Day at Isotopes. It was Mariachi night. No live Mariachis. It was piped in musica. Dan even recognized most of the songs. Norteno Music is cool. Ay yi yi yi

Prayers for your mom, Oso. {{{Hugs}}} for you ❤❤❤

  108. Comment by osoloco11 on May 6, 2021 11:55 pm

Thanks, TiFW. I will never understand why Hispanics feel the need to flood the hospital and spend all day in waiting rooms.

  109. Comment by Sobek on May 7, 2021 12:03 am

I’m sorry to hear that, Oso. I hope she gets the care she needs.

Mija misses a month of school. School: whatsup, prima?
Mija: mi tia was halfinga nina. We had to be there.

    Sorry, Oso.

Sobek, I hope she gets the care she needs. It seems to me that an obese diabetic 80 year old Hispanic with a DNR isn’t high on the list.

  113. Comment by osoloco11 on May 7, 2021 12:15 am

Pendejo, you know!!! Studies show that family support for Hispanics in hospital, works. Positive results. I will never get it. Anglo hubby. Anglo Dad. Germaphobe that avoids hospitals is up there

  114. Comment by Pendejo on May 7, 2021 12:30 am

Oso, I love me some mexicanos. They’re old school to the max when it comes to life it’s ownself. But I cant figure out the 65 folks shutting down life for a month because abuela is in the hospital. There
s got to be a witchdoctor reason for it somewhre.
