Choose Joy

Lots of bad stuff happening. I think we all look around at the world and can’t really believe this nightmare is reality. Lockdowns. Censorship. Stolen elections. Retribution. Fear. Panic. Violence.

I’m not a very emotional person but when I think of the attempts to silence millions of people in our fair country I’m brought to tears. This is the only reason that I become remotely political. When you strip away all of the issues – judges, tax rates, healthcare, race – all of the bullshit, you’re only left with the divine gift of free expression. Either we have it or we don’t.

The beauty of America is (was – hotspur) the belief that we can work out ideas, discuss difficult issues, fight over them, and ultimately come to conclusions that are objectively true and also moral. If all topics that the Left doesn’t favor or won’t benefit them are off limits then the compact is broken. They are attempting to achieve power by silencing their political opponents, which is just another attempt to reduce the divinity of man and subjugate him.

And now a musical break to appeal to your better nature. I heard this song during a workout (it was an all request music kind of thing) and really liked it. Good beat, a really nice message, and boy am I a sucker for a choreographed dance sequence. Dance you nutty Christians, dance.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to use their language as a political weapon. Rather than fighting directly on the front of free speech I’ve been noodling how to wrap politically toxic issues in their vernacular. This is obviously a bit tongue and cheek, but I’m not sure all would be discounted straight away.

Taxes –

Millionaire’s Tax: Tax rates fall disproportionately on working Americans. In order to fix this imbalance I propose a 95% income tax on all individuals with over $5M in wealth. The wealth would include all short and long term assets.

Vice Tax: Social media has been shown to be addictive and harmful to people, especially the young, black and brown people, and historically marginalized groups. Because of this, a vice tax of 75% will be placed on all employees working in the social medial industry. They are harming black and brown bodies with their work.

Carbon Tax: The vast majority of CO2 is produced in cities. The residents of cities will be required to pay an additional 75% carbon tax for the luxury of polluting our environment which also harms minorities and those with preexisting conditions.

Electric Vehicles: The tax credit for electric vehicles went primarily to wealthy, white families. All owners of electric vehicles will be required to pay back their tax break and also pay an additional carbon tax of $15,000 per year over it’s useful life. The supply chains for electric vehicles aren’t mature and require more carbon to produce than traditional combustion vehicles. Until that imbalance is corrected the tax will remain in place.

Wall St: A tax of 95% will be placed on all profits of firms that employ a lobbyist.

Congress: A tax rate of 100% will be placed on all profits made on investments. All investments made by congress will be to small business owners through a trust. The small business loans will prioritize underserved communities without access to credit.

Please feel free to add ideas in the comment section. Next week we’ll look at a different area of public policy!

Instead of a tax code, take it a few steps further and do Constitution 2.0

I get to return to work today, been layed off since before turkey day. To say that this fucked up my holidays would be a massive understatement.

There is no working with the communists. They intend to steamroll. You can kill the machine or be flattened. This shit is surreal, a dystopian nightmare being acted out live.

“Lithium Recycling Tax” on the electric cars would be fun. Lithium mining is every bit the pollutant they lie about frakking being, so we really should be recycling the lithium batteries to reduce the amount we have to mine.

Which will take more energy than mining it in the first place and increase the total carbon footprint of a “zero emission vehicle” well beyond a standard Mack truck, since “electricity” is shorthand for “burning coal somewhere else” and recycling metal takes a lot of it.

So we’ll get brownouts, and blackouts, and grid failures.

Physics, my friend, is not just an idea. Find out what physics can do for you!

Jay, it’s cheaper to buy more from Bolivia, at least for the moment. Lithium is a particularly troublesome metal to work with, particularly after it’s been a battery long enough to not be one anymore. It might be being piled up somewhere for after an inflection point occurs, but right now, making a new battery from mined lithium is much, much cheaper than refurbishing an old battery.

  11. Comment by MJ on January 14, 2021 8:49 am

Not my type of music either but I really liked that song in particular. I was really surprised I heard it in the work out.

I’m glad that everyone is finally seeing the light, and choosing me.

  14. Comment by Jay in Ames on January 14, 2021 8:51 am

Bolivia has lithium, and it has labor without union safety rules, I imagine. Once that company insures their workers, then recycling will become more viable.

  15. Comment by leoncaruthers on January 14, 2021 8:52 am

Tax companies selling products made overseas. Base it on the percentage discount on labor.

It’s just another form of tariff, should be easy. I could see ways to skirt it by incorporating the overseas entity as a separate company that the domestic one “buys” labor from, but then you go back to a standard tariff on imported manufactured goods.

Ending “h1B” and “h2B” for tech workers should be one of those bi-partisan issues, but every manner of Washington pig eats at that trough. You’d have to get a leftist populist to push it.

  16. Comment by Jay in Ames on January 14, 2021 8:52 am

probably God getting even with Bolivia for giving us Che.

  17. Comment by Jay in Ames on January 14, 2021 8:52 am

Trump had started that tariff system, but everyone called him a racist.

  18. Comment by Brother Tim on January 14, 2021 8:52 am

I had never heard the music from that “A Star Is Born” remake before this morning. I heard “Shallow” on the radio on the way to work, considered it crap, wondered what it was, why it was getting air play, and what jackhole ever thought it was worthy of corporate investment. Then I search the lyrics, find out what it was, and my mind boggles even further.

I mean…damn. That’s some garbage music right there. Makes the contrast with the song above that much clearer.

  19. Comment by leoncaruthers on January 14, 2021 8:54 am

Yes, lithium miners must have a safe working environment and a living wage. For San Francisco.

Ditto for Apple and Nike assemblers.

You’d find more than a few willing. The left-populists may be even more marginalized than we are, sadly.

The beauty of America is the belief that we can work out ideas, discuss difficult issues, fight over them, and ultimately come to conclusions that are objectively true and also moral.

The beauty of America was (WAS) you leave me the fuck alone to do what I want to do. If I break a law, that’s on me, and I deserve the consequences. Otherwise stay out of my life, my bedroom, my yard, and my car.

Republicans are guilty of violating this sentiment. Democrats don’t just violate it they hump it like the soldier in MJ’s cartoon.

Heh: BREAKING: GOP Rep. Greene to Introduce Articles of Impeachment Against Joe Biden on January 21

  34. Comment by Jay in Ames on January 14, 2021 11:09 am

    Biden on impeachment of Trump:

“Last week, we saw an unprecedented assault on our democracy,” Biden said in a Wednesday statement. “It was carried out by political extremists and domestic terrorists, who were incited to this violence by President Trump. It was an armed insurrection against the United States of America. And those responsible must be held accountable.”

  35. Comment by Jay in Ames on January 14, 2021 11:12 am

    what does this mean?

    https://dailycaller.com/2021/01/13/nancy-pelosi-house-democrats-rules-cripple-republicans/

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made headlines for a part of the rule changes passed Jan. 4 that eliminated gender-neutral language. However, scrapping “mother” or “father” from House rules may ultimately pale in comparison to Pelosi’s decision to alter the “motion to recommit.”

I’m hoping for a decent night’s sleep. I figured if I exhaust myself, maybe I can get past the 3 AM wake-up-and-lie-there-for-hours-thinking-about-stuff-that-I-can’t-do-anything-about.

This is a very, very, common form of insomnia. I have it, on and off. I believe it’s actually a normal process that is misunderstood and eventually becomes piggybacked by an anxiety disorder. Literally; because you worry about it, it gets worse. Otherwise in the normal process you’d wake up, look around, have a sip of water and fall back asleep quickly.

Lately I wake up a little later, running hot and cold, and then toss and turn, and then sleep til 11. Fun!
