Welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day.
Today’s poat is going to fall into the “as little as possible” category. Really should have done this before the surgery.
Old song I heard on the radio.

Now for the hunks.
Classic Hugh Jackman.

Annnnnnd shirtless.

Good. Now bring me coffee.

Lumberjack.

“Can I borrow your towel, my car just hit a water buffalo” line here.

Last, but not least.

Thank you for your attention, thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week, and y’all have a good day.

Hugh Jackman has the body of a man. That is good.

Roamy, I saw that you checked in yesterday and glad of it.

All is well I hope Do exactly what the Dr. says about not doing anything pully, pushy or lifty. I’ll pray you sleep well-it’s so healing.

That phrase often precedes an argument

Old farm boy. Didn’t bother him in the least. Growing up, they kept the livestock in the ground floor of the house, during the winter months. Living quarters were 1st and 2nd floors.
    ——
As a little kid visiting my grandfather we’d often explore the “barn” next to his slightly more modern house, the one my mom grew up in. We realized the barn was where my great grandparents lived. It was a rough house with an attached barn where goats and sheep were kept in the winter. There were lots of old fashioned appliances in there and old farm tools. If it was preserved properly it would have been a gold mine for an antique salesman. It wasn’t.

Good heavens. Covid cramped pride month’s style so they’re keeping it going with lots of extra events just to make sure we’re “aware”. We haven’t had enough obese half naked people walking parade routes wearing thongs and rainbow wigs yet I guess

Well, looks like Ms Lance Bottoms isn’t going to be Biden’s VP.

After letting people take over parts of the city and then having those people kill an 8 year old she’s disappeared with the Rona.

Fear not, she’s still able to bitch about how awful it is that the governor has decided to step in.

ISTANBUL — Since it was built in the sixth century, changing hands from empire to empire, Hagia Sophia has been a Byzantine cathedral, a mosque under the Ottomans and finally a museum, making it one of the world’s most potent symbols of Christian-Muslim rivalry and of Turkey’s more recent devotion to secularism.

Now President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is making moves to declare it a working mosque once more, fulfilling a dream for himself, his supporters and conservative Muslims far beyond Turkey’s shores — but threatening to set off an international furor.

The very idea of changing the monument’s status has escalated tensions with Turkey’s longtime rival, Greece; upset Christians around the world; and set off a chorus of dismay from political and religious leaders as diverse as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Mr. Erdogan’s opponents say he has raised the issue of restoring Hagia Sophia as a mosque every time he has faced a political crisis, using it to stir supporters in his nationalist and conservative religious base.

Do it, fucker. Eventually the West is going to Make Constantinople Great Again and drive you Turkish sheepfucking invaders off lands that are ours.

I took the Phase 4 version of the test with grades 1-15 which I was a little mystified at Hannah’s scores. I used to know what my scores were but forget now. They were definitely average both times I took it, higher all around second time around because I actually prepped for the test rather than just showing up with my freshly sharpened #2 pencils

The hell. First time I took ACT I got a 16. No prep. But then city public schools = very little maths/sciences in grade school/high school (only one year of each was required). Then I worked late the night before and didn’t eat breakfast. Required me to take remedial math classes in college….where I took it a second time two years in. No prep. Got low 20s.

    *picks nose*

So frustrating to know how so many, besides oneself, were cheated of an education.

  29. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on July 8, 2020 9:25 am

I rolled out of bed, went “Oh shit, I have my ACTs today” and ended up getting a 30.

I beat the valedictorian and salutorian. The latter was my good friend. He had spent months studying and was pissed. His mother was near apoplectic. What’s funnier is I did the same thing for the SATs and beat him as well.

Mr. B. went over to the rental this morning where the tree cutters should be finishing up. I’ll poat a picture or two, later. Poor little house left with no shade. Front tree was HYUGE, and still pretty healthy, but tore the crap out of the driveway.

While there yesterday, he got to know one of the neighbors he hadn’t met before. He’s really concerned because elderly woman with dementia. Very frail, wobbly with a walker. Came down her driveway and asked if over there was were she was supposed to be. Found out someone checks on her ONCE A WEEK. Daughter lives in TX.
He got her settled in her home, turned her AC down to 79 (it was on 81) and asked if she had eaten that day. She said she had but when he turned to go she said she was so hungry.
When beasnette gets back from vacation, we’ll ask her to keep on eye on the lady.

  32. Comment by beasn on July 8, 2020 9:32 am

Daughter’s high school algebra teacher used to keep Smarties and Dum Dum candies on hand and distributed them accordingly. Not sure he can get away with that these days.

  35. Comment by beasn on July 8, 2020 9:36 am

What is weird is both my kids got about a 24 on their ACTs. Daughter is a bad test taker but worked hard to get her 4.0. Looking at son’s score breakdown…he blew the doors off the math/science part. The other stuff, of which he has little interest, brought his score down.

  36. Comment by beasn on July 8, 2020 9:38 am

I have this bad habit of finishing schooling in computer-related fields as a Clinton is running for the Presidency to follow up a Bush with an economic crash in the offing.

You laugh, it’s happened to me twice (’92 and ’08, respectively).

I’m getting severely gunshy of further “retraining”. (Doesn’t help they keep wanting to send the decent tech jobs overseas or to H1Bs.)

ooh what kinda computer training Brother Tim?

  52. Comment by leoncaruthers on July 8, 2020 10:52 am

I’m at that point too, Tim. I have a handful of purchased courses in data mining and ethical hacking that I can’t be bothered to finish, and full access to LinkedIn Learning. I could be adding skills and thus buzzwords to my resume, but I can’t get motivated. It’s hard work, the tech shifts so fast that the curricula are likely already outdated in at least some respects, and unless I change jobs I don’t have a genuine need. Getting in shape and building farm infrastructure for my retirement are both far better uses of my time.

  53. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on July 8, 2020 10:56 am

I’m working through some python and access stuff, but the requirements for most jobs that I’ve seen make it disheartening. “Entry-level” means “five years of experience with these three programs that no one else uses.”

  54. Comment by Jay in Ames on July 8, 2020 10:57 am

IT overload is a real thing. I hate dealing with certain things at my job, but I’m the king of my particular molehill, and leaving would mean conquering another molehill to feel reasonably comfortable on. If I’m made less comfortable, that makes that effort seem less daunting.

I hope everyone finds their happy place, and comfortable molehill.

  56. Comment by leoncaruthers on July 8, 2020 11:05 am

Intended to try to get back to that two years ago, but…well, y’all know that tale.

At my age in this economy, I despair of ever finding a “good job” and making more than mid-20s yearly. Whole fucking thing is a scam and a lie and always has been, I’m convinced. Wasted my life and here I am.

I haven’t decided if I even want fruit trees, Laura. Our apple tree is prolific but the apples aren’t fit to consume and I don’t want to spray. I could see planting more pears but my whole intention has been to focus on animals that can live on “just grass” with some mineral inputs, and maybe supplement income with seeds saved from native grasses planted in a deliberate plot. I could justify a small orchard if I were planning to rely a lot on pigs, but I’m still not sure I want to do that, since they’d either need a lot of grain purchases or a giant 3/4 sisters garden every year just to feed them.

I was nice to the nurses, and they were nice to me. God especially bless the one who brought me coffee at 5:30 AM yesterday – breakfast wasn’t until 8 AM, and I had a caffeine headache leftover from Monday.

  92. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on July 8, 2020 1:41 pm

Roamy, my shoulders didn’t hurt and noone warned me about squat *mumble mumble* but my neck and above my ears hurt. I figure it was the way they incline/recline the body during surgery + the tubing down your throat/mask placement, and the pressure from that.
From what I looked up, they put you on some kind of rubber pad – so you don’t slide off the table head first – and then raise the foot of the table to help your guts move out of the operating zone.

The “Halle Berry can’t play a tranny!” thing is wonderful to me. Every time a she-male* character shows up on a police procedural or typical TV show, he’s cast with a woman in the 7-9 range. Happened on CSI, House, L&O: SVU, etc. It paints a deeply false picture of the “passability” of the average dude in a dress. If all such roles have to be filled by actual trannies, the roles will either dry up or the public will get a good look at just how little Mr Yaniv really looks like a “Jessica”.

Normal ICU – 95% in order to pay for all of that expensive equipment and specialized doctors. The 2% increase may be due to covid. Maybe. Maybe not. Cancel culture is trying to destroy the lives of people just for saying things. Not merely disagree with them, not attempt to argue an opposing view, but end their careers and destroy their brands. Did Roamy finally save up for the gender reassignment?

It’s called “gender affirmation surgery” now, you heteronormative patriarchal white supremacist monster.

awwww Romy, the Snoopy (even though, for the record, I think he was a total asshole to Charlie Brown) NASA poster is cute

    Uh, TITSWWT

Lord, I didn’t come up with any explanation for what that means….but um, porn hub definitely showed up. Did NOT see Terry Crews there

There is totally something wrong with that.

PJM, it started with the astronaut caps being called Snoopy caps (white in the middle, brown over the ears where the headphones are), evolved into Charles Schultz doing artwork for NASA, and eventually one of the big awards being called the Silver Snoopy. I have Snoopy posters going back to the late 80’s – they were “Manned Flight Awareness” in those un-PC days.
