Welcome to another edition of Hunky Hump Day.
New beginnings this weekend. Rocketboy and FDIL have been dating for 4.5 years, two of those years long distance. Mr. RFH and I could sympathize – I alternated work and school while we were dating. This song reminds me of those days of leaving here around 8 AM and getting to Mr. RFH around 4:30 PM. I made the trip often enough and stopped at the same gas station in Cleveland, TN that one employee recognized me (or my car, it was a weird car) and would have a large coffee with two sugars ready for me when I got out of the ladies room.

Now for the hunks. Ryan Reynolds welcome.

Fake redhead for Carin.

Javelin.

On a beach somewhere.

Labeled this one “not Sulu”

Last, but not least.

Thank you for your attention, thanks to Pirate’s Cove for the linky love every week, and y’all have a good day.

On my way to work yesterday I could hear an NPR host practically squeeing with joy about how we’ve officially been in a recession since sometime in February. She was interviewing an economist who described the different types of recovery and, like all practitioners of the mystic arts, confessed he didn’t know which path we’d take. I’m sure he hoped for the one that resulted in Trump losing in November but to his credit he kept up appearances.

Anyway, I just took it as economic news but as the article above mentions, there’s yet another tool to toss in the gears of the machine.

    wakey wakey

What strikes me is how easily people, institutions and corporations kneel and bow to the mob, in the hopes they’ll get killed last.

This. Plus “hostage videos” comment from Phat last night. That’s what it is.

  4. Comment by MJ on June 10, 2020 7:56 am

Generally hostage videos require a captor. For the life of me, I have no idea why you’d make one voluntarily. But here we are…what a stupid time to be alive.

Healthcare sector update: Hospitals that opened are now at 90% of pre covid levels.

Only a decrepit, corrupt, senile, hair sniffing, grifter can save us from the economic recovery.

We are in the early stages of the cultural revolution.

Since we had been directed to oppose the rightists, we did. After more than a decade of continuous political struggle, the intellectuals knew the drill. We all took turns persecuting each other. This went on until the Socialist Education Movement, which, in my view, was a precursor to the Cultural Revolution.

They are both “Rad Trads” and Marshall in particular has gone around the bend trying to justify his stance on Communion on the tongue (he alleges that it was and is common in Middle Eastern cultures for the host to hand-feed his guests, rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrright), but they are solid conservatives and very far from racists.

The spread of Christianity to Asia is one of the gaps in my knowledge. I went to a Catholic HS and college but most of the religious history I learned was where the hell the proddies came from. That was HS. In college the general studies or core curriculum was more of a philosophy/ethics track and at some point I remember a hard core leftist teaching liberation theology. He was awful but it was a required course where my fellow science majors just checked the box on to get it over with

It was only a matter of time before the protests came for “Paw Patrol.”

“Paw Patrol” is a children’s cartoon about a squad of canine helpers. It is basically a pretense for placing household pets in a variety of cool trucks. The team includes Marshall, a firefighting Dalmatian; Rubble, a bulldog construction worker; and Chase, a German shepherd who is also a cop. In the world of “Paw Patrol,” Chase is drawn to be a very good boy who barks stuff like “Chase is on the case!” and “All in a police pup’s day!” as he rescues kittens in his tricked-out S.U.V.

But last week, when the show’s official Twitter account put out a bland call for “Black voices to be heard,” commenters came after Chase. “Euthanize the police dog,” they said. “Defund the paw patrol.” “All dogs go to heaven, except the class traitors in the Paw Patrol.”

  96. Comment by leoncaruthers on June 10, 2020 5:43 pm

The producers should say “fuck it” and have him maul a BLM protester to death.

I would watch the shit out of that.

Dan is researching “Bug Out” places. He just asked me about Liberal, KS. DID I GO THERE? Fuck yeah

Nascar banned the confederate flag, and has a Black Lives Matter car

  108. Comment by Teresa in Fort Worth, TX on June 10, 2020 9:12 pm

    How is that NOT racist?

  109. Comment by scott on June 10, 2020 9:20 pm

    Good job NASCAR.

Don’t listen to your fans, bow down to those who make fun of you.

Same goes for the NFL, who will probably ban the American flag.

If this keeps up I will give up on television.

  110. Comment by leoncaruthers on June 10, 2020 9:23 pm

    People still watch TV?

  111. Comment by osoloco11 on June 10, 2020 9:41 pm

Scott, we have given up on the NFL. We have given up on MLB. We have golf and NHL right now.

    Ultimate fighting.

  113. Comment by leoncaruthers on June 10, 2020 9:51 pm

I never watched sports. I dropped TV when Dexter ended.

I don’t know what that is.
    Sounds gay.

Big Hero 6. Watch it. Still team MCU, but this is good

  119. Comment by phat on June 10, 2020 11:55 pm

Regarding the anarchist takeover of the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle, I have a couple of thoughts:

    1. It’s a cool, funky area that has some nice clubs and restaurants, been there many times.

    2. They produce NOTHING.

    3. Blockade them and starve them out. Let out any who want to leave the perimeter peacefully through, but no food or water comes in. Cut off all power. Will take one week. This is basic strategy 101, only an elected politician could screw it up.

  120. Comment by lauraw on June 11, 2020 12:34 am

Do any people have residences in that area, phat? Are there apartment buildings or what?

  121. Comment by ChrisP on June 11, 2020 12:43 am

Lots of retail on the street level. Lots of apartments above. These people are trapped. This sucks…

  122. Comment by phat on June 11, 2020 12:56 am

The area where the anarchists have set up appears to be in the crappier part of that area.

    ChrisP’s description matches my recollection.

  123. Comment by lauraw on June 11, 2020 12:57 am

Wow, that blows. I wonder how many of them are supporting this bullshit and how many are pissed they can’t call the cops anymore.

My son live in Capitol Hill, moved there a year and a half ago. He lives in a gated apartment and has been working from home since March. I think he’s outside the area where they are holed up, but it can’t be a good situation.

  127. Comment by Jimbro on June 11, 2020 8:02 am

it can’t be a good situation.
    —–
Agree. Despite the portrayal of the liberal cities as 100% fruits and nuts I’m sure there’s a good percentage of normal people who just want to live their lives and be left alone.

If I lived anywhere near there I’d have my go bag packed and ready, download all critical documents on a thumb drive and be ready to leave at a moment’s notice (among other preps such as not living there in the first place)

  128. Comment by tomswifty on June 11, 2020 8:21 am

We lived in Baltimore until he was 10, then mid-sized midwestern towns after that. He said he missed the city and has always loved rain, so he moved out to Seattle when he got the chance. He loves it, but he went lib on us after he got married. She probably turned him. They are divorced, but he had already started looking for jobs there.

I would think it would be lonely, although Phat is right: it is a cool and funky place with lots of restaurants and small shops. I don’t think I could get used to the homeless sleeping on the edge of the sidewalk, though.
