I wonder who dusts her bedrooms?

    She has delightful mammalian protruberances.
And a decidedly atypical-for-an-Englishwoman pretty smile.
    Excellent

I was in a meeting with five other people yesterday. Someone said something whippersnapperish, and then the lead engineer for this project and one of the guys helping him admitted that they were born the year I graduated from high school. I said, “Get off my lawn!” which made the one guy my age snort his coffee.

As I was previously unaware of Ms. Lawson’s enormously talented corgis, and noted she’s my age, I did an image search to establish some baseline data.

Holy cats, check out when she was a twenty-something:

I don’t even understand how single payer works.

Specifically, how do you go from what we have to single payer.

  31. Comment by leoncaruthers on May 5, 2017 12:10 pm

Basically, private insurance is outlawed and everyone has something like Medicare. Instead, we’ll get health fascism, where all our choices are private entities in name only, like now but worse.

  35. Comment by leoncaruthers on May 5, 2017 12:25 pm

I know, Scott. If the dems were clever they’d just have expanded them instead of doing 0-care. Going from 33% to 51% would have been easy and they’d have gotten R votes for cover. And – God help me – it would be better than this abortion we have now.

  36. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on May 5, 2017 12:40 pm

I suspect that single-payer won’t happen nationwide, but that California and a few blue states will do it. Of course, it will be a disaster.

  37. Comment by PepeLp on May 5, 2017 12:43 pm

I knew a guy who was a nurse in Canadia when they went to socialized health care. He hated it. Basically everyone went to the emergency room for anything. Dealing with the government bureaucracy on top o the hospital bureaucracy was nightmarish.

I had long sworn off getting into political discussions with lefties but geoff’s BIL over at IB got under my skin. It’s sad because he seems like mostly a good guy. I’m afraid I may have gone too far in my last comment. We shall see. He’ll probably just tell me to fuck off.

  40. Comment by Jimbro on May 5, 2017 12:51 pm

    Two tier system

Private clinics for people with money, ghetto hospitals for the rest.

  41. Comment by leoncaruthers on May 5, 2017 12:56 pm

The two tiered system is how it “works” in practice everywhere. Which further cements the class divide the Left so desperately longs for.

  42. Comment by MJ on May 5, 2017 1:00 pm

But that’s my question. How do you just remove all insurance companies?

Is it phased out over time?

I’m planning for the two tier system; have enough money to buy good insurance or pay cash for healthcare.

  43. Comment by scott on May 5, 2017 1:03 pm

Crap, I forgot about the VA, govt employees, and everyone in prison.

That’s got to be half of America.

  44. Comment by Colorado Alex In Exile on May 5, 2017 1:07 pm

They’ll offer a “public option” for anyone who wants it,

Then they’ll demand that hospitals accept the public option insurance.

By that point the insurance companies will be mostly run out of business.

  45. Comment by Jay in Ames on May 5, 2017 1:09 pm

Canada has a 2nd tier, for those that can afford it. It’s called “America”.

Phased out over time, MJ, that’s how it will happen here. Private insurance will get more and more expensive and less and less profitable until it just goes away. We’re staying on TriCare until the wife retires fromy the Guard. I’m looking for a Catholic health-share ministry after that.

  49. Comment by mare on May 5, 2017 1:49 pm

You made several great points, Lauraw. Geoff’s BiL sounds like someone who is absolutely certain they are right in their wrongness. Hardheaded and silly considering his support of Bernie Sanders. I don’t take ANYONE who supported Bernie seriously. It’s impossible because thier socialist arguments are so easily shot down.

I’m pretty curious because NPR said Le Pen seemed unprepared for the realities of dealing with two currencies and the details of leaving the EU while right leaning sites informed me that Le Pen made Macron look like a weak effete, Frenchman.

Shit! French people like weak effete Frenchmen!

  56. Comment by Car in on May 5, 2017 2:58 pm

    Ugh. so over this stuff.

Ethan’s infectious disease doctor doesn’t take our insurance. “But, it’s only about $100 a visit”.

YES but it’s FIVE visits. Plus all the other expenses. Ugh. This whole thing is a nightmare.

And, just in case you were wondering, this is one of those official ‘obamacare’ policies.

  57. Comment by Brother Cavil on May 5, 2017 3:04 pm

“Obamacare” policies are like that “Good2Go” so-called “auto insurance” that exist solely as a compliance mechanism to satisfy state laws that require the insurance. They won’t pay out for jack squat in case you need them, but you got the piece of paper!

  58. Comment by mare on May 5, 2017 3:05 pm

Obamacare sucks so badly, when you compare Obamacare to Hillary’s vagina you prefer to participate in Hillary’s vagina.

  59. Comment by Brother Cavil on May 5, 2017 3:06 pm

Someone did a study comparing paying for an O-care “policy” and simply taking the money required and burning it. They found the latter had more benefit, as at least the heat could warm you somewhat when it was chilly.

Word is the EPA is working on rectifying that oversight, though.

  60. Comment by mare on May 5, 2017 3:07 pm

As a 16 year old bus boy there was a hot 30-ish bartender with Farrah Fawcett hair and massive yabbos struggling to fit in her leotard top. She knew I was interested in an education but class never was in session. One day I was hitch hiking back from a friend’s house a couple of towns away and she picked me up in a convertible wearing Daisy Dukes and a tank top. It was touch and go on whether I’d be able to stand up when I got to my destination.

I think that if some Caribbean nations are sharp (I’m looking at you, Grand Cayman) they’ll heavily recruit the best American health care providers and some health care capital to set up shop and become the Monaco of health care. People with money to spend on themselves can fly out there and get the old hip replaced or get the old prostate reamed and get it done right. Meanwhile back in America……

TMI comment. I had habanero lime beef jerky at work. Delish. I cried. I’ve washed my hands 3 times now. Still burning. I just asked Dan if he wanted a “Handy” I was kicked to the couch.

Boy1 ran over his heal with the cart machine tonight at work, has a bruise on it about the size of a quarter. He was hobbling around on it for hours until he got home and took his sock off, now he thinks it will need amputation. I have put ice on it and wrapped his foot, trying to keep him quiet with it elevated.

We’re watching an Octonauts episode about blobfish. Rosetta would titter at that.

I saw that one this week, and thought of PJM.

I think I should order him a PICC line.
