BBF–Girls with Guns

Could this be a play on words to suggest girls with large mammary glands? Could it be literally, girls with guns? The answer is below the fold. You’ll just have to ‘continue fapping,’ to find out.

I hope you all had a loverly Christmas and got all of the gifts you wanted. It is cold in Illinois, and the hat that I received from my secret santa has been quite useful. So far, no one has noticed that reindeer humping, which has been kind of fun. Either that or they’re being polite. I’m going to guess it’s the former, not the latter.

Please to be enjoying some Metric:

Since you’ve all been good this year, there will be no test. I will note that the second to last picture features my favorite weapon, the Glock G17. I have a modified version of this gun called the G17C which has a compensated barrel, greatly reducing the kick,  and allowing for very rapid, accurate fire. It’s pretty cool to shoot in the dark too, because you can see fire shoot out of  the cuts in a ‘V’ pattern…like so: BOOM!

Enjoy the coming weekend and polish off those leftovers. Please send all extra pie to me or Dave. I hear Dave enjoys a good pie. I  hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a happy pre-New Year to you, Hostages.

There will also be Resurrection, in which a Roman soldier is sent to investigate Christ’s death. It has been likened to “Gladiator, with a mystery bent”.

Hmmm, that one sounds pretty interesting.

Yes, but it’s worth it. I have it loaded with eagle claws so it really doesn’t matter. It would take off an arm. I will probably be shopping for a larger caliber soon, though. My dad just got a .40 that’s pretty nice and I’ve been thinking about it for a while.

Suggestions? I’m way too lazy to read the gun threads.

MJ, go with the .40. Great combination of mag capacity & stopping power.

I carry a .40 cal. H&K USP Compact and highly recommend it. The Springfield XD line is also nice, as is the Glock if that’s what you’re used to.

I also have a Glock 23 in .40. Nice pistol, but I never have gotten used to the grip angle and my natural point of aim with it is always high as a consequence.

The word is that their marriage has been a struggle for years (I mean honestly – all that golfing? ) And that his recent behavior was beyond the pale. I dunno. I just find it funny.

The article says they will remain married while he is in the white house, then he’ll move to Hawaii and she’ll remain in DC while the kids finish school.

Which jives with predictions that she stays there to begin her political career. Especially if HIllary wins in 2016.

Saw that. I don’t think they’ll get divorced, but after they leave the White House it wouldn’t surprise me if Michelle and Barry make Hillary and Bill look like a couple of 16-year-old lovebirds. He’ll find some cushy international speaking gig, probably with a side gig taking on roles in Hollywood, while she’ll move to NYC or LA and spend all her time with a “trainer”.

Idiom. You lift your chin when you say it and duckface your lips. It loosely means “what’s up guys?” If you’re mad-dogging when you do it, it’s a challenge.

Let me tell you how good some people are.

Last year, as my crappy little netbook was dying, one of my readers offered to send me a (slightly used) laptop computer. And did so, and declined payment, even for shipping.

So, it turns out XSis1 will be having surgery next month, and is facing a lengthy convalescence, with about 2 months of enforced bedrest. But all she has is a desktop computer. So this same reader (now co-author) is sending yet another laptop so she’ll be able to stay in bed and still access the internet.

It’s amazing that there are still great people out there.

It’s about slowing down the growth of the leviathan that buys votes with our money. I don’t diss vets, you know that.

But let’s get a handle around this gargantuan government that exists to bloat the debt to keep people in power. Across the board, not just our veterans.

  173. Comment by xbradtc on December 27, 2013 3:50 pm

The GOP putting DoD/veterans money on the table takes away one of the Dems traditional tools for twisting arms for increased spending.

It’s a hell of a lot easier to argue to slow down welfare when you say even wounded vets are getting hit.

It sucks for you guys that get VA/DoD money, but there it is.

  174. Comment by daveintexas on December 27, 2013 3:58 pm

And no mare, I’m sorry to say, veteran pensions are not off the table.

We have created a system that is pure federal government for them too, just like GM did for union workers. It’s the same damned thing.

Whatever enterprise you chose to pursue as a human and a free American involves some sacrifice and risk. The armed services more than others. Create a system where they can contribute to their retirement. I know too many double dippers and I’m not impressed. I don’t blame them for taking it. I blame us for giving it.

But the government we all claim must shrink built up a system of lifelong benefits and pensions that it could never pay.

I do not think this is in the spirit of Lincoln’s “we must care for his widow and his orphan”. It grew far larger than that.

  182. Comment by mare on December 27, 2013 4:19 pm

  183. Comment by daveintexas on December 27, 2013 4:23 pm

mare, count on your fingers and toes the number of the three and a half million in uniform who never went into the AOR.

    Go ahead. I’ll wait.

I have stated that combat vets, especially the wounded, deserve compensation and care. But we have a few million veterans who did JOBS and retired after their twenty and didn’t risk so much as a paper cut who are on a pension and lifelong health care, including their dependents.

It is no different than union organized fender shapers. And it is government led, designed bullshit to buy votes with checks.

This is part of the problem. It’s all hunky dory to shit on expansive government until it hits *my* pursebook.

  184. Comment by ChrisP on December 27, 2013 4:34 pm

    Well, Dave.
Then the military pay scale is going to need to be adjusted so that those in “jobs” make the same as the federal employees and “civil-service” workers doing the same level tasks.
They make shit-wages on active-duty, because they will get “the rest’ in their retirement.
As it stands now, they could get out after one hitch and go to work for the FAA, FCC, or any other TLA and make more money as well as getting a better retirement.
Service is a ‘hardship’ job. They (not all) spend half of their life away from home and family. Meing in ROK for 14 months is not the same as being in San Diego for 14 months.
    Whatever. Go with it…

Let’s set wage scales for a kid turning wrenches in a DOL vs. the local Firestone hut.

I have no “OX” in this. Only experience.
That was in late ’60s & early ’70s. No “choice” involved.

You can’t touch mine.. touch theirs.

“The solution is to make federal military pay like military pay”. Except we have an all volunteer military. Just like we have an all voluntary work at Goodyear.

I’ll say one more time for people who keep skipping over this, if you served in combat for our nation, and suffered, we owe you a debt.

If you did not, you took a job that had potential risk, it did not materialize.

We really need to comprehend the difference, with respect to government.

With respect ChrisP, I don’t think you are processing my words.

  190. Comment by ChrisP on December 27, 2013 5:26 pm

    Dave,
You aren’t processing mine, either. Why should you going to work for the FAA get you better pay and bennies than going to work for the USN?
I parsed your argument about the pay:
    “It’s voluntary.”

So, according to you, anyone who joins the military is a sucker because the pay sucks, and you could get hurt.
Nobody should do that. If you do, it’s on you.

    Got it.

You’re putting words in my mouth.

I did not say “sucker”. I did not say “one pay is better than another”.

But I’ll address that, conservative free market fan. Any pay is worth what you freely sign up for.

This is why we lose. Because when our ox gets gored free market capitalism must go!

To you privileged classes seem to be those who wore a uniform.

I do not ascribe to R. Heinlein’s definition. I rather prefer the Constitution.

I’d wake up and there’d be nothing… I hardly said a word to my wife until I said yes to a divorce. When I was here I wanted to be there. When I was there, all I could think of was getting back into McMurdo. I’ve been here a week now. Waiting for a mission, getting softer. Every minute I stay in this tent I get weaker. Xbrad,
Was it all VOLAR when you were in the Army?

I only ask because I was in with draftees in the ’60s-70s.
When I was at artillery school at Sill we were in a classroom having a class on the M-564

    http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/docs/AMMO973/sld007.htm

time fuze. It required you to set the seconds on the coarse scale on one side of the fuze, then turn it around to set the tenths-of-a-second using the log-scale on the other side.
    At the end of the class, there was to be a written test. The cadre asked;
“If there’s anybody that needs help with reading the test questions, raise your hand.”
At least 15 people raised their hands.

    I’m thinking:
“We’re going to trust these illiterate folks to set fuzes to shoot over the heads of our infantry without blowing them up, and they can not read?”

The folks currently in the service are WAY better educated than when we had the draft.
    I was there…

  223. Comment by Michael on December 27, 2013 10:37 pm

Then the military pay scale is going to need to be adjusted so that those in “jobs” make the same as the federal employees and “civil-service” workers doing the same level tasks.

I forget where, but within the last week I’ve read, in connection with this issue, that military pay has improved since the Vietnam era to the point where it is competitive with private sector jobs. Of course, direct comparisons are tricky. Sure the sevice members get rich bennies like health care and subsidized shopping at the PX. But they also have to move every two years, which makes it hard for a trailing spouse to have any kind of career.

    Likely, I mean.

  225. Comment by ChrisP on December 27, 2013 10:40 pm

    Xbrad,
I’ll have to amend my question, as CMSG Mellinger was serving while you were. He recently retired as the “Last Viet Nam Draftee”.

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/draftee-military-retires-39-years/story?id=13990440

    So it goes…

    Michael,
My experience is OLD, as am I.
I just know what was, not what is.
What I related was what I experienced in the late ’60s, early ’70s, as you stated “The Viet Nam Era”..
    Things were different then…

  227. Comment by scott on December 27, 2013 10:54 pm

    Michael knows old.

  228. Comment by scott on December 27, 2013 10:55 pm

  229. Comment by xbradtc on December 27, 2013 10:55 pm

Chrispy, I had a few Vietnam veterans serving with me. Of course, after the first two year tour, they were volunteers. Reenlisting several times, I’d say they were past the draft part.

  230. Comment by ChrisP on December 27, 2013 10:56 pm

    Scott,
    Michael also knows Romo!

  231. Comment by scott on December 27, 2013 10:59 pm

    Gross.

  232. Comment by ChrisP on December 27, 2013 11:02 pm

    Xbrad,
You know what I’m saying about the quality of the serving folks though?
    Please tell me you do.

The folks I went through training with, that had never been to school and had only tended pappys still, were pretty damned scary.

I ain’t never had no book learnin’.

Perhaps you don’t. Those folks were either, out after their hitch, or dead.

  233. Comment by xbradtc on December 27, 2013 11:04 pm

I knew a few “rocks with lips” in my time, Chrispy. Even a couple of MacNamara’s Army of 100,000.

And yes, the average guy is much brighter today. Thankfully.

But then again, as Michael noted, today’s pay is far, far more competitive than it used to be. It’s about twice what it was when I got out.

I know a couple in the Air Force who will retire soon and take home $10,000/month between the two of them for the rest of their lives. They both enlisted and then went to Officers Training School. They have had to move around from Japan to New Mexico to Florida and now Germany.

I’m not trying to make any kind of point here, just telling you what I personally know.

  236. Comment by Lipstick on December 27, 2013 11:16 pm

  239. Comment by MunDane68 on December 27, 2013 11:33 pm

DiT, I don’t know if this is the Kiss of Death, but I agree with you. WE owe them a debt, yes. The thing is, everyone is owed something. My son is going to cost a lot of money to raise. I don’t put my hand out for half of it because I believe in paying my way. But his much maligned public school education is expensive. His sometime-school supplied therapy is expensive. When budget cuts hit education, it hits me double, because I lose pay AND have to fork over more for my son’s care.

And this is EXACTLY the same thing that went on when Alec Baldwin and Martin Bashir opened their pie-holes. No one on the conservative side said “Oh, yeah. Freedom of speech, their employer owes them a defense…” But let a conservative and likeable guy like Phil say something that gets his network’s hearts palpitating, all of a sudden it is a Free Speech thing.

So, yeah, conservatives and conservatism are not some moral high ground. My ox : goring :: your ox : goring is a false statement.

  241. Comment by Lipstick on December 27, 2013 11:37 pm

Hey Chrispy, not Generals. Husband is a Major and the wife is a few years behind him – not sure what she is. The $10,000 is what the two of them combined will have, according to what they say.

    Names?! Can’t do that.

The loss of PattyAnn, and Cranky before were pretty hard.

The loss of Harrison hit me like a brick in the face. Maybe because when I last saw him he looked so good,

I don’t know. We’ve all lost some in the past couple years,, We held each other up.

    That’s what friends do.

  244. Comment by leoncaruthers on December 27, 2013 11:44 pm

Defined benefit plans of all kinds are going to crash and burn in the next 20 years. Boomers didn’t have enough kids to make it work, and even if they had we’ve regulated ourselves out of the sort of work that the left half of the bell curve can do for a living. Military and civil service pensions can’t be sustained any more than UAW pensions can be. Whether any of us want them to continue as-is is utterly irrelevant. Reynold’s Law will win out.

An E-7 with 20 years at retirement draws <$20,000 per year in pension benefits. An E-6 at 20 years draws <$15,000. The problem isn't military pensions and benefits, it's that we're spending money on other shit as if it's morally equivalent.
