Atlas Shrugged so far

Perhaps I shouldn’t review a book before I’ve entirely finished it, but this book is really resonating with me.  I think it says something when a 50-year-old book makes it back onto the best seller list.

In the book, as in America today, there are producers, looters, and moochers.  The producers take pride in what they have accomplished by putting their own name on their companies.

So you think that money is the root of all evil?  Have you ever asked what is the root of money?  Money is a tool of exchange, which can’t exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them…Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears, or of the looters, who take it from you by force.  Money is made possible only by the men who produce.  Is this what you consider evil?

When you accept money in payment for your effort, you do so only on the conviction that you will exchange it for the product of the effort of others.  It is not the moochers or the looters who give value to money.  Not an ocean of tears nor all the guns in the world can transform those pieces of paper in your wallet into the bread you will need to survive tomorrow.

[UPDATE: Rosetta]

This is going to be a huge week in the health care debate and I can already identify the left’s argument chicken: Anthem Blue Cross is raising medical insurance premiums on some Californians by 39%.  In light of this, Obama’s new health insurance proposal contains a provision whereby the gubmit is going to limit rate increases by private health insurers.

You know how this is going to be reported.  A 39% increase in premiums!  That’s such a big number!  Horrible, horrible profiteeting!  Can’t the government do something! etc etc etc.

Ignoring the facts that (1) it’s a private enterprise and (2) there are economic justifications for the increase, here’s the relevant point that the MSM will ignore but hopefully the conservative media will not.

Anthem’s parent Wellpoint attempts to operate at a profit so they can, you know, stay in business.  Their profit margin averages an unimpressive 5% per year.

Medicare’s unfunded liabilities total over $89 trillion.  The CBO has stated that in order to allow Medicare to continue its current level of activity and balance its budget, payroll taxes would need to increase by 147%.

So let’s summarize, shall we?

Wellpoint: to continue operating at a 5% profit, it needs to raise rates on some California customers by 39%.

Medicare: to make a 0% profit and not bankrupt the country, the government needs to raise payroll taxes on everyone by 147%.

Big business vs. Big government.  You choose.

Andrew Breitbart, Will You Marry Me?

I am in serious man-love with Breitbart.  Serious man-love.  No one had a better CPAC than he did and although I was a fan before this last week, I am now convinced that he is one of the two or three most indispensable conservatives.

He has had enough of the lies, the baseless allegations, the smears, the name calling and the other various forms of bullshit that the left has turned to in the absence of political ideas that don’t suck donkey balls.

You may have seen all of these elsewhere but they’re good enough that they need to be in one place.

He started getting warmed up at the tea party convention the week before last.  The entire video is good but my favorite part is when he kicks the GOP in the family jewels at around 4:35.

Now at CPAC.  Here he is unloading on liberal asshole Max Blumenthal who wrote a bullshit hit piece on Salon.com calling James O’Keefe a racist.  A little hard to hear until Andrew gets pissed.

And here he is talking about Blumenthal during an interview when some douche-bagger tries to start shit.  Breitbart wasn’t having it and it’s a beautiful thing to see.  And you know what happens when douche-baggers lose the argument…

Hahahaha!!

Math Teacher: What’s 2 + 2?

Douche-bagger: 7.

Math Teacher: No, it’s 4.

Douche-bagger: Racist!

If you know of any other Breitbart gold that’s I missed here, let me know.

Did you just call me a racist?  Please allow me to retort.

[UPDATE]

My friend Gabe put this up at the mothership.  It’s a video of Breitbart at CPAC.

Lauraw’s favorite video game?

I don’t expect you to watch the whole thing.

We just needed a new post and obvioulsy the rest of you fucktards are either too lazy or too drunk to provide one.

What Happened Today in History?

Important above-the-poat update

Alexander Meigs Haig, Jr. (December 2, 1924–February 20, 2010)

Rest in peace, General Haig.

Nothing! That’s what.

O.k., that can’t be right.

Also:

In 2003. the Station Nightclub fire in R.I. happened. Here’s a recreation of the physics:

In 1997, Barry Bonds signed a then-record $22.9 million, 2-year contract. Little did we know that the “steroids and syringes” rider would come into play big time!

In 1992, the Little General, Ross Perot, announced that he was running for President. Thanks for Bill Clinton, douche!

In 1988, Brian Boitano won the Gold Medal in figure skating. Ghey.

Ok, enough! Just post some comments ‘n’ stuff.
