Actually, I never have been too twisted up about the county-city building. Having grown up in the Flint area in the 1980s and having spent a fair amount of time in Detroit, I have yet to see a neighborhood in Tacoma or Seattle that worries me. In fact, when I was sworn in at the County City Building in 2002, one of our group came late. She complained that she got lost and had to park “in the hood.” I couldn’t quit laughing.

I have one demo co-worker and we avoid talking politics these days as he's pretty sure I'm a war-criminal and I'm equally sure he's a traitor. But his rationale on taxation and govt spending goes something like this: We're gonna pay taxes anyways regardless of which party is in power. We might as well vote for the guys who are promising us free shit. Somehow I think the Republican party has helped him arrive at this not totally wrongheaded conclusion. I have no demo friends.
