Her kids are all grown, the youngest is 28. One has installed an app on his phone to totally block his mom’s phone number – no calls or texts allowed through, so he doesn’t even see the attempts. This is the same woman who was going to get a judge to declare my nephew’s wife an unfit mother because she’s deaf, to get custody of the grandchildren. Yeah, that’ll work.
I was keeping tabs on her because she lost her alimony payment when my brother died two years ago. I was trying to make sure she didn’t end up homeless. I guess she’s truly on her own now.

Wrap it around your shoulders and hike or drag it/something bound with it behind you. I looked into weighted vests and for the money the chain is still a better value, since you can use it for other things.

Hope Mrs. Pupster’s deal goes without a hitch. Those day surgery centers are big $$ generators for health care systems. They’re like factories, get em in, get the work done, wake em up fast and send em home to recover. They move people through like an assembly line, all streamlined and efficient. The one here that I did my knee scopes and my eye in is a great place, in by 7 out by 11.
The knee replacement was in the hospital though, cause they keep you for 2-4 days after that and you get morphine.

No such luck, the boy is having an absolute meltdown, he knows it and is pissed at himself and still can’t do anything about it. I feel bad for him, but tough love is a bitch sometimes, as it is now.

He is trying to confront it on his own, no meds, just him and his thoughts and you can tell he is struggling with it. One minute he caves the next he is coping. He has been texting and calling my wife all morning and we finally just cut him off and are making him work it out on his own. It’s brutal in every way you can imagine, knowing that he needs us their with him and knowing that us not being there is the best thing for him. I pray he can fight through it and overcome it… we thought that beast was gone.

Holy shit. Just got about .3″ of rain at the house. In the mountains above us, however, it really let go. Probably 2 to 3 inches in half an hour. The canyon next to the house is running higher than I’ve ever seen it. The road just washed out and scary big trees are rushing by. So, I’ve lost 23 lbs since late April. Seems like my weight loss is REALLY slow. Any advice as to what I may be doing wrong?
I’ve cut out almost all carbs, play golf 3 days a week and work out the other 4. My workout consists of 30 minutes stretching, 30 min of free weights/resistance and 30-35 min on the stationary bike.

Is Ghee still around? Just wanted to let him know that most colleges are set up to deal with kids with anxiety issues – they see a LOT of that the first few months, so be sure that son knows not to be afraid to talk to someone on campus; that’s what they are there for.
I think we talked to DD#1 more in the first 6 months of college than we had all 4 years of high school – once she figured out that she could “do this”, she didn’t call as often (she did call us for the important stuff, though!).
I’m sure he’ll do fine once he finds his comfort zone (and I’m sure you guys will monitor the situation from afar as well). He knows that he can come home if things get too bad, I’m sure. But I doubt it will come to that….. {{{hugs}}}

And seriously, Chief – many years ago my dad (he was probably 70 at the time) went on a diet and had set a “goal weight”. He was about 10 pounds away from his goal when he went to see his doctor.
The doctor (not knowing that Dad was on a diet) took one look at him and started mentally running through the rash of tests that he was going to have to order for him – he was convinced that Dad had some serious illness.
When he found out Dad was still trying to lose weight, the doctor not only told him to stop immediately, he told him to put about 10 pounds back on.
It wasn’t what Dad wanted to hear – he thought he was too fat. The doctor wanted him to be able to fight off any illnesses that might crop up.

Might want to do a carb refeed, Chief. Take a day, go high carb and low fat. You’ll swell up for a few days, but it could start you losing again. I’d only do this if you have a real plateau, though, like 8-10 days with no weight loss. Sometimes going low carb for a long time can cause enough stress that you’ll ratchet down your basal metabolic rate.
Low carb diets are great at pushing your blood sugar down, fixing your HDL and LDL levels.

When I was 20 (before I go to sleeps I tell this story), I had problems with anxiety. Completely irrational, unexplainable anxiety. There were nights I couldn’t go to sleep because I just knew something bad was going to happen, even when I couldn’t explain in words what it was that was going to happen. There wasn’t anything.
I likely needed some help then, but I didn’t seek it. I just fretted for a couple years.
It was a hard time. I suspect a lot of kids (including my girls) suffer that too, big life changes and all. I wasn’t exactly a pampered kid.
Someone to talk to can help. Helped me. And the question that helped me the most was “if things don’t work out, what’s the absolute worst outcome of that?”
Putting it into words, or down on paper, made it seem less awful.
Just an exercise. It helped.
